We were amazed at all the deer running around at any time of the day, the proximity to the tidepools and rugged coastline, and when we got there, we were upgraded to a suite (very nice) as the hotel staff were very friendly and helpful in recommending places to go and see around the area. Highly recommend this hotel.

After reading others reviewers comments, I wasn't sure if we should stay here or not, but decided to give it a try. The place is older, but is in good condition. Our room was very clean, and the bathroom facilities were new, and spotless. There were plenty of towels, which were replenished on day 2. The beds in our room certainly weren't too hard; but my husband & I did tend to roll towards the center. We had a gas fireplace, which was nice, but there were no other temperature controls for the room. I don't know that I would stay here in the winter, at least not without more blankets on the bed! The beach is a short walk away from Deer Haven, and is a protected area with extensive boardwalks for visitors to stroll on. There are many deer - we saw at least 4 fawns with their mothers on one walk. Also, it is a short drive over to the Monterey Bay Aquarium from the hotel, and a short drive to downtown Pacific Grove, which has a number of good restaurants - we found an excellent pastry shop, which also served good coffee. We tend to use hotels as a base to do other things from; mainly, just to sleep and take breaks in. For this, we were perfectly satisfied with the Deer Haven Inn, and will definitely return there. We stayed on Thursday & Friday night, and I really enjoyed the fact that it was QUIET!

When looking for a place to stay near Monterey, I wanted somewhere that was reasonably priced, but also in a nice area. The Deer Haven Inn is both close to the water, and close to many of Monterey's spots you might want to visit. The rooms were very clean and the bathroom was spacious and modernly equipped. The staff was friendly and the area around the inn was just beautiful! Being able to walk to the beach made my girlfriend and I very pleased. Overall if I was going to take another trip to Pacific Grove, I would stay at the Deer Haven Inn again without a second thought.

The location is great but the rooms are small and rundown. The interior needs to be spruced up.
