| The Elmbank Hotel is a city hotel with a country-house atmosphere. Built at the end of the 19th century for a local mill owner, the hotel still retains much of its original charm and character. The Elmbank is within easy walking distance of York's many attractions. The guestroom decor is well-suited to the style of the hotel. All of the rooms, with the exception of two of the singles, have en-suite bathrooms. The Elmbank is situated amongst quaint, narrow streets filled with half-timbered houses, shops, pubs, tea rooms, and restaurants.

| Our only complaint was the lack of a lift (elevator) for the luggage, otherwise the rooms were older but clean, and the beds were fine. It's an older home - a refurbished men's club - and was lovely on the inside. We didn't eat breakfast there, so we cannot comment on the food. Within walking distance of Micklegate in York, a little out of the central part of town.

| Was housed across the street in the Elmbank Lodge(perhaps that's where the single rooms are). Room was very small, barely enough room to walk around in. Had to open bathroom door as far as it would go to sqeeze around to the toilet. TV did not hav remote & channels very limited. Bed comfortable. Hallways stiflingly hot but room nice & cool.Breakfast good but pricey. Breakfast room(in main hotel) shabby-looking. The main building is hstoric with beautiful Arts & Crafts detailing but everything I saw could use a thorough sprucing up. I chose it for price so am not complaining. Would not stay again.

| This was a very nice hotel. Very clean and comfortable rooms, if not spectacular. I enjoyed the goodies like hot cocoa and real cups for coffee/tea in the room. Excellent service of the staff, particularly at meals. Try the breakfast buffet--full English breakfast! And what a variety of items on the menu at a very reasonable price. It really did have an "old world" feel to this hotel. I really loved the service and attention from the hotel staff.

| Stayed at this hotel for one night in York and found it nice and perfect for my needs. Had a nice big room with a double bed and two singles even thought it was only myself and my girlfriend. The extra room was nice and the bathroom had a full bathtub and shower. No elevator though but I didn't mind, others people might. Overall enjoyed my stay. Little out of the city center but I like to walk.
