Melia Caribe Tropical All Inclusive Amenities
Trams shuttle guests around the vast resort, which includes 1,044 guest suites in 44 two-story white bungalows surrounded by tropical gardens and tall palm trees. A scarlet-carpeted casino offers 40 slot machines, six blackjack tables, four roulette tables, and two Caribbean-poker tables. Bavaro Beach is miles long and the point of departure for glass-bottom boats, disco-party boats, and snorkeling excursions (though they're not part of the All-Inclusive Plan).

This is also the only resort presenting an exclusive “Flintstones” children's program, featuring The Baby Rock Club (4 months-4years old); Bam Bam Club with fun park and the stone lake (5-12 years old); Cool Club (for teenagers), and other facilities.

    Recreation

    Features
What to expect: North American, European, South American, and Dominican families and couples come to this all-suites resort. They pack swimwear for the turquoise sea, and resort wear for starlit evenings strolling on paths bordered by gardens so lush they nearly conceal the resort's low-rise buildings.

Amenity highlights: Two of everything is the rule: two giant, free-form pools containing 12-person, cool-water spas and swim-up bars; two activity pools; two children's pools; two health spas—one containing a beauty shop and the other a fitness center—and both offering men's and women's saunas, steam rooms, and hot-water spas; two discos; and two theaters presenting nightly shows featuring the resort's exceptionally talented dancers.

Insider tip: Not long after sunrise, savvy guests claim poolside, thatch-roof palapas shading platforms upon which rest foot-thick, bed-like pads wide enough to accommodate a family. (Dozens of smaller palapas around the pools and on the beach are a consolation to latecomers.)

Turey Grill - This beachfront place serves breakfast and lunch buffets and grilled foods such as burgers and chicken all afternoon. Twice weekly, dinner buffets are laid out, including Tex-Mex on Tuesdays and Dominican on Thursdays, accompanied by a folkloric show.

Agora Grill - Like Turey Grill, Agora Grill is located on the beach and serves breakfast and lunch buffets and grilled foods such as burgers and chicken. In the evenings, it becomes an à la carte, Western-style barbecue and steak destination, with terrace seating and no dress code.

La Gondola - This popular spot plays four roles, offering an Italian buffet for lunch, Italian à la carte selections at dinner (when men are requested to wear long pants), fast foods from 11 PM until 5 AM, and Continental breakfast.

Hokkaido - The resort's only reservations-required restaurant, this lovely Japanese place features teppanyaki dinners, with guests seated around grills while chefs cook to order. Men are requested to wear long pants.

La Pagoda - This Chinese dinner restaurant specializes in popular à la carte choices such as Peking duck and wonton soup. Men are requested to wear long pants.

Le Gourmet - Serving international favorites such as tuna in dill sauce and duck in orange sauce, Le Gourmet is a fine-dining, à la carte restaurant. Men are requested to wear long pants.

Ma Maison - This à la carte dinner house specializes in dishes such as lobster thermidor and beef filet in sour cream and cognac. Men are requested to wear long pants.

Capri - Food from the sea such as seafood crepes and grilled shellfish is the attraction here. Men are requested to wear long pants.

Alhambra - Offering a Spanish buffet nightly, this casual restaurant has no dress code.

Los Panchos - Like Alhambra, this Mexican restaurant has no dress code for its dinner buffet and made-to-order taco grill.

Atabales - This place serves a breakfast buffet and an international dinner buffet six nights a week with no dress code.

The resort includes 10 bars, including one in each lobby (Caribe and Tropical), swim-up bars in both large pools, and a bar serving the casino and adjoining sports bar/disco that remains open until 3 AM.

American Grill - Dominican a la carte restaurant.

El Guarapo - Dominican a la carte restaurant.

It was too spread out. The fumes from the train were noxious enough that we opted to walk. It was a full 15 minute walk from our room to dinner every night and it was worth it. The food in general is pretty good. The staff were very friendly and ready to help.

Melia Caribe is overall a great resort. The staff is very friendly and helpful. There is a huge variety of restaurants and buffets to enjoy and there are several bars conveniently located. The pools are very spacious and clean and there are a lot of poolside chairs. The beach is beautiful and in walking distance from most of the villas. There are a lot of water sports offered for a decent price and the people running these activities do an excellent job. My only complaints about the hotel was the check in process which took forever and the lack of nightlife. There is a performance every night which was enjoyable, but there really isn't a music spot for people between the ages of 21 and 35. Also, it might have been the timing but the hotel mostly had families and couples. If you're single and trying to meet people I'm sure you're better off waiting for Memorial Day or Labor Day weekend. Other than that, I completely enjoyed my stay there and would return.

I just came back from my Aug 10-16 vacation and my husband and I had a great time. This was a great place if you have kids (The whole tropical section of the hotel is Flintstone themed.) It is great for couples, too on the caribe side. If you don't like heat and humidity don't go in August because the AC isn't the coldest but it's adequate. The buffet food is a little repetitive at breakfast and lunch at the Turey grill on the beach so definitely go to Atabales for breakfast and La Gondola for lunch sometimes and make dinner reservations at the different restaurants I think there were 9 in all. I would definitely go back.

Wonderful, fun vacation! The hotel is beautiful, clean, and well kept. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The food was just okay, but there was always something you could find to eat. The beach is beautiful, as is the pool. We had the Servicio Real, and really enjoyed the upgrade, although it's probably not necessary to have a wonderful time. We tipped, but found that it really wasn't necessary. My husband golfed, and enjoyed it. He said the course was adequate and challenging. The golf is included in the all inclusive price, but you had to pay $35.00 for a golf cart. We rented a car, and driving there is quite an adventure. No real rules of the rode. Just watch out and don't crash into anybody. We went to the capitol and on a few excursions which we enjoyed. There are a few mosquitos, but not too many. Bring bug spray just in case. We will return again...we couldn't have had a better vacation!

The royal service master suite is well worth the upgrade. The private restaurant/pool with pool bar is great there. This ambiance is awesome. Private palapas, soft sand, hypnotic, soothing music in the background, the sweet smell of incense...it was terrific. The buffet food wasn't bad...just nothing extra. Food at the beach restaurant is good for lunch. The restaurants we like were French and International. Make reservations for dinner early - the food is great. The nightlife was not what we were looking for. We could not find a club for dancing. I guess it's their way to get you to go to the casino. We did that quite a bit at night. YOU MUST GET A MASSAGE!!! Overall it was a wonderful trip. Call way in advance for room service. Tip your room attendant for more in the fridge when you get back in. Tips go far here so take plenty of $1's. The beaches are beautiful.

This was our second visit to the hotel and from the first day we had things going wrong. The room was not made when they brought us to it, the bags were not there also. After the second day I checked to see if they had changed the sheets, they didn't and the maid told us that the supplies were short with sheets and towels, we couldn't get towels for the beach because they said that we were too late and they didn't have any. The food was not up to part as the first time we visited, they were short of things, too many flies and birds walking around the food trays around the buffet area. A real mess, we will not be returning to this hotel.

I was hesitant to book a vacation to Punta Cana despite hearing about how nice it was. I'm happy to report that I was very suprised by how nice everything was. The facilities were very nice and the grounds were very clean. The staff was friendly and willing to help, but most spoke spotty english. Bring your golf clubs with you If you're a golfer. The course included with the resort is average, but some of the best in the world are within an 90 minute taxi ride.
