    St George Lycabettus Hotel Amenities

Throughout summer, the rooftop pool offers a welcome retreat from the noise and heat of the city below. White canvas deckchairs line the perimeter of the emerald green basin, while a small bar serves refreshments. The adjoining mini gym functions throughout the year, upon request.

On the ground floor, the Afternoon Boutique displays a limited selection of fashion items bearing the names of some of Greece’s top designers, while the Elias salon is the in-house hairdressers.

Tony's Bar has been given over to a small informal business center, with two computers with high-speed internet access (fee). Faxing and photocopying can be carried out at the reception. There are three conference areas: The Grand Balcon and Aphrodite, accommodating up to 400 participants, the Andros Hall for 250, and the Phaedra-Hydra Hall for 500.

    Recreation

Through summer, the open-air rooftop pool provides for swimming and sunbathing.

The steep slopes of Lycabettus Hll are crisscrossed by a network of footpaths, which wind their way between rocky outcrops and dense Mediterranean vegetation. Perfect for an early evening stroll, the paths are also popular with fitness buffs and joggers.

The recreational activities listed below are available either on site or near the hotel; fees may apply.

    Features

What to expect: In upmarket Kolonaki, an immaculately dressed doorman greets visitors as they pass through sliding glass doors into a spacious reception area adorned with leather armchairs, pine floors, vases of freshly cut flowers, and discreet lighting. Purpose-built in 1973, this six-storey hotel offers a peaceful, relaxed atmosphere, appreciated by businesspeople and discerning tourists alike.

Amenity highlights: The interior was remodeled in 2001, bringing in modern furnishing and hi-tech facilities. Le Grand Balcon offers refined dining and romantic nighttime views, while the trendy Frame bar-restaurant serves up informal meals. Guests can shop at the Afternoon Boutique, stocking clothes and accessories by contemporary Greek designers. In summer, guests can relax at the rooftop pool, set off against the rugged, pine-scented slopes of Lycabettus Hill. The newly-opened 'Sensia' Spa centre offers guests a range of treatments such as a hot tub with underwater lighting for chromatotherapy, and face and body treatments using products by Kenzo.

Insider tip: Just a five-minute walk from the hotel, a funicular runs up to the summit of Lycabettus Hill, crowned by the tiny whitewashed church of St George. The highest vantage point in town, it affords panoramic views. Close by, an open-air theater hosts summer concerts - the 2002 program included Moby and Massive Attack.

Le Grand Balcon - Located on the sixth floor, this restaurant offers unforgettable nighttime views over Athens. Through summer, sliding glass doors open onto a large terrace area. The interior is decorated almost entirely in white, leaving the focus on the city lights and the food. The restaurant is open for dinner only (Tuesday-Saturday) and the signature dish is Grilled Fillet of Beef Charolais with Mushroom Risotto. Le Grand Balcon is frequented by hotel guests, business people out to impress, and romantic couples. American Buffet breakfast is also served here.

Frame - Opened in 2001, this bar-restaurant and lounge comprises an airy, double-height space, adorned with 70s revival decor: perspex, chrome, animal skin throws, and orange and brown fabrics. It is open for coffee, snacks, lunch and dinner daily, and on Sundays serves brunch. Through summer, Frame also operates in a marquee garden space across the road, especially popular with young, glamorous Athenians.

This hotel is a bit of a hike to get to - and is not in Syntagma Sq or the Plaka area where most things are that you will want to visit. But it is very beautiful. The rooms are a bit small, but they have lovely furnishings and a fully tiled bathroom.

The hotel is in Kolonaki, which is the toney shopping area of Greece. Very laid back and nice and great shopping. The hotel itself is near a hill topped by a church, very green. But where the Lycabettus fails is the quality of the rooms which are small bordering on tiny. It's nicely decorated though and if you get a good room you can see the Acropolis.

Great location in fashionable Kolonaki. You need to go up a hill to get to the hotel but it is worth it. Great view from the rooftop restaurant and pool.

All staff speak english, very helpful, very clean, room surprisingly large by European standards. Hill is very long and high; however, once you learn the back and side routes, it is no problem.

I had a difficult time with the service at the front desk, I asked several questions but could never get much response or help out of anyone. I did notice that old men in business suits got much more detailed directions and answers from Anna, the receptionist. On the day before I was to leave, I had ordered custom made jewlery and it was to be delivered to my hotel. I asked the front desk to watch for its delivery and showed them the receipt of purchase to identify the jewelry company, after that I was treated well. I have to say that is mainly my only complaint. One plus is the GO tours they offer, which we enjoyed. If you take one, be sure to let several staff members know that you are waiting for pick up, or you could be waiting a very long time. However they will sent us in a taxi to catch the tour bus just in time. Room service was great. You can select a delicious breakfast & have it delivered at a specific time which is convenient if you have early morning appointments. The restaurant on the roof was definately beautiful- make a reservation to watch the sunset over the acropolis & ocean in the background! They were also great about wake up calls and getting us to the airport by 6 a.m. which cost me 20 Euros.
