The 5,000-square-foot Avanyu Spa offers seven treatment rooms, including a hydrotherapy/Vichy shower room, men's and women's steam rooms, and a relaxation lounge. Next to the spa is a 25-yard outdoor lap pool for adults.

Spa treatments include various massage techniques, such as hot-stone and aromatherapy massage. In-room, poolside, and private-hut massage are also available. Body-treatment options include Seatonic Firming (exfoliation, firming gel and serum, body wrap, mud-mask for feet, gentle massage) and Mango Sugar Smoothie (mango-sugar scrub, Vichy shower, butter-cream massage). Facial options include customized treatments.

Fitness classes include water aerobics, yoga, tai chi, and Pilates—many held on the beach, with one-on-one sessions also available (fee). Use of the fitness center is included in the resort fee.

Camp Cheeca is a supervised marine education/environmental awareness program for children ages 4–12. Half- and full-day sessions and hourly play sessions are available (fee). On Friday and Saturday evenings, a "kids' night out" program includes a pizza party.

The resort provides complimentary high-speed Internet access in the lobby. A self-serve kiosk rents out video movies for use in guestrooms.

Valet parking:
Valet parking is complimentary (gratuity not included). Secured garage with in/out privileges.
Self parking:
Self parking is complimentary. Secured garage with in/out privileges.

Recreation
The resort has a 9-hole, par-3 executive golf course and six lighted tennis courts. Use of tennis racquets and courts is complimentary. Rentals at the resort include boats, kayaks, small sailboats, windsurfers, and bicycles. Also available are scuba-diving and snorkeling excursions, scuba-diving lessons and certification courses, environmental tours by boat, sunset cruises, private boat trips, parasailing flights, and fishing-boat charters (fees apply).

A beach center provides fishing rods for use on the resort's 525-foot wood pier and pool floats—both complimentary. Other recreational activities listed below are available at or near the resort. Fees might be charged.

Features
What to expect: Since 1946, the resort has attracted sports fishing enthusiasts such as sportscaster Curt Gowdy, General Norman Schwarzkopf, and President George H. W. Bush, as well as families seeking active vacations. "Barefoot elegance" is the theme, and it's evident immediately in the lobby, which features a wood-beamed ceiling, wood-paddle ceiling fans, lots of plants, and plush seating.

Amenity highlights: Waves lap a palm-lined, 1,100-foot, white-sand beach furnished with tiki torches and thatched cabanas. A classic wood pier jutting 525 feet into the Atlantic Ocean is ideal both for fishing and moonlight strolls. Guests swim in a saltwater lagoon, a large family pool, or a 25-yard adult lap pool. The hotel has a 9-hole golf course and six lighted tennis courts. Water sports rentals, sunset cruises, and fishing trips are available (fee).

Insider tip: Dating from 1946, the resort features extensive tropical gardens and mature trees. For self-guided tours, a brochure available from the concierge shows locations of 24 significant plantings, including Cuban Laurel, Strawberry Guava, Geiger Tree (a rare native specimen), and Gumbo Limbo (nicknamed the "tourist tree" because its bark, or skin, is red and peels).

The Atlantic's Edge - Fine-dining restaurant featuring curved-glass front providing ocean views. Seafood, steaks, vegetarian dishes, poultry. Open every evening for dinner only. Guests' fish catches cooked on request.

Ocean Terrace Grill - Casual, poolside restaurant. Open daily for breakfast and lunch, and evenings for dinner during winter season. Air-conditioned dining room and terrace seating under billowing white fabric or in the sun. Hangout for resident egret named Sam. Continental and full-breakfast buffets as well as à la carte menu. Extensive salad/fruit buffet at lunch plus sandwich menu. Tropical drinks, coffee drinks, pastries all day.

Curt Gowdy Lounge - Oceanfront gathering spot honoring sportscaster/fisher Curt Gowdy, a longtime visitor to Cheeca Lodge & Spa. Open every evening until late. Serves a selection of appetizers and snacks to accompany beer, wine, and cocktails. Walls display mounted fish and photographs of Gowdy, fishers with their catches, and former President George H. W. Bush, host of the annual George Bush/Cheeca Bonefish Tournament. Site of Wednesday night "fishing-tales" local radio broadcast.

Room service is available during limited hours.

Everything was wonderful except the service in the restaurants. We waited extremely ridiculous amounts of time to be served. We had better meals at local restaurants. We enjoyed the logistics of a single charge for all amenities, and the ease of being able to take advantage of the water sports and golf & tennis. Other than the poor restaurant service, everything else was satisfactory and we will probably return to the Cheeca Lodge.

We first stayed at Cheeca Lodge 15 years ago while on our honeymoon. We both fell in love with it and promised to come back for an anniversary celebration. We did just that for our 15 year anniversary. We plan on returning for our 20th, 25th, and so on!!!

The hotel is nice overall, but the floor I stayed on was being renovated. No wallpaper, only some hall lights. The room was decorated nicely, but the TV and air conditioning did not work. Staff never resolved the problems. Did not offer to change rooms. Be sure to ask if the room is under renovation, as they will not offer up the info.

This is the old type of service that people did long ago. I enjoyed every minute that I was at Cheeca Lodge. I felt completely safe and they make you feel like you own the place. I highly recommend if you are in the Keys stop here for a few days.

From the moment we arrived to the time we left, the service was top notch. I was concerned recent huricane activity might have destroyed some vegitation. I couldn't have been more wrong. WOW!!! From the room, to the pool and beaches, to the pier and water sports, our whole experience was perfect. We will stay at the Cheeca again!

Cheeca Lodge is a little run down, not what we expected given the rating and other reviews that we had read. Nevertheless, it is a clean, comfortable resort in a good location. We were disappointed with the beach and lack of water access, but that was an unexpected problem with the Keys in general. Food was good. Spa services were below expectations, especially for the price.

This was our 3rd year in a row going to Cheeca. We love the place, and the newly renovated rooms are beautiful. Granite counters, marble floors, and stainless appliances in the suites. We will be there again next year!

We went to Cheeca to celebrate our anniversary and we had a wonderful time! We've told everyone we know that they must stay at this hotel. The service was wonderful! The room and king size bed were great! The view from our resort view room was amazing!! The beach and surrounding areas of the hotel were so beautiful!! There is so much to do at this hotel!!! It is a large hotel but we felt as if we were the only people there-very quiet and relaxing place! Well worth the money-can't wait to go back!!!!!

Having read a couple of the past reviews, I was concerned that the Cheecs Lodge would not meet my expectations. From the moment that I was met at the gate the staff was very freindly and professional. The valet and check in desk clerks both addressed me by my name and were very helpful. We stayed in one of the older rooms which very clean and comfortable. There was a very large bathroom and anjoining dressing area along with a kitchen, living room, bedroom and terrace. The adult pool was great and the pool butler kept us in drinks. I have been going to the Keys for 15 years and found this to be the best experience to date!
