We had a great time at the Melia Azul. We were there for 6 nights in July and actually found the weather to be quite pleasant. It did rain almost every day and it was overcast some of the time, but that made it almost the perfect temperature. One day it rained almost all day, but it was sort of a nice break. The food was good -- as good as I would expect for buffet food. Definitely had a Mexican quality about it even when it was "Oriental" or "Italian," but we were in Mexico! Mostly Mexican families at the resort -- it was fun to practice our Spanish, though many people spoke English -- the staff definitely did. Take the bus to Ixtapa or Zihuatanejo -- it is WAY cheaper and easy to do. I did just find out that our room wasn't all that was promised, but we found it adequate. The one disappointment was that there was no fold out couch so they brought in two portable single beds for our sons, they took up the whole "sitting" room. Our "jr. deluxe" was really more like a regular room with a king sized bed (no balcony, no kitchen). So I would suggest knowing exactly what you are supposed to be getting and making sure you get it. The staff were amazingly accomodating and service was excellent all around. I would go back, only we don't like to take the same trip twice, so maybe another Melia!

When we were choosing a place to stay in Ixtapa we read the reviews that were out there. Some for the Melia Azul weren't so postive but most were so we decided to book our trip and stay there. Boy are we glad we did! It is a really nice hotel and the staff is great. There was a brief mix up with our room reservation, we booked a room with a balcony and were given a room without. As soon as we brought it to their attention we were immediately moved to the correct room. The rooms are very nice, the views are spectacular. The service staff in every area are very attentive. The food in the buffet selections was good, even our 10 year old was well satisfied. Don't forget to ask for the coconut ice cream for dessert. This was the most relaxing vacation we have had in years. There was plenty to do when we wanted and plenty of wait staff when all we wanted to do was lay by the pool and have a drink. If you are looking for a great family vacation place with plenty to do, good value, great staff and beautiful sunsets on the beach - this is it. There were couples there that seemed to be making it a fine couples retreat as well.

The hotel was great for Ixtapa! The suite was beautiful with a seperate bedroom needs updating though. The hotel compared to the Paridisus in Cancun is not comprable, which was disappointing to us since we were expecting the same conditions. They only had three places to eat in the morning and you only had two nights in the exclusive restaraunt's. The food was okay, it was very hot, only one buffet was air conditioned. Pool is great, but too many kids, and alot of nationals.

The stay at the hotel was fine; food fine (it IS buffet food); pool a little warm (but we were there in July); but keep in mind that the hotel is really set up for families so if you are looking to get away from little ones for a romantic stay, this would probably not be the place to go.

The hotel was nice looking, however the food was average & the same every day. We all felt a bit sick through the trip. No air conditioning in the restaurants, lobby, main bar, no where, except the rooms. It was so hot and humid, we felt like we couldn't breathe in the hotelw/no air. It's miserable to eat while you're sweating! The waterslide park is very small & only for kids under 12. The outdoor theater shows are not so good. Majority of the guests were Mexican residents-there was only a few Americans staying there. Hopefully you speak a little Spanish if you're staying here.

Our overall stay with the Melia Azul Ixtapa was enjoyable. It was very relaxing, which is what we were looking for. However, we were disappointed with the beach. There was not much of a beach - and the water was dirty. The food was good, but a different variety for each day would be great. Our meals in the 2 specialty restaurants were wonderful! I would not recommend this hotel for families with children between the ages of 12 and 18 years of age - there are no activities for them! We had 6 children between the ages of 12 and 21 years of age and if we hadn't spent the extra money on wave runners, they would have had a pretty miserable time. On Thursday evening we tried to go as a family (there were 3 families in all) to the Disco, but were asked to take our 4 children (ages 12, 14, and 17) out. We were upstairs where noone else was, dancing and having fun, not being rowdy, and even though our kids were accompanied by us, they were not allowed to stay. Definitely need to work on this problem! The rooms and facility were extremely clean and well taken care of. The staff in the restaurants and maid service were extremely helpful and nice, however, the front desk staff and concierge staff need to work on their customer service - not very helpful or willing to help in many situations - we are Americans, and didn't feel extremely welcomed by them. We did enjoy our day at the Island, and the pools were beautiful on the hotel sight.

With just a couple minor exceptions, we loved every minute of our vacation. Hotel service was outstanding. The staff were overly generous at all times and went out of their way to service you. Actually service everywhere we went in the area was outstanding. We never got "hawked" for timsehares or tours at the hotel, but tour desks were available. DO NOT BOOK YOUR TOURS AHEAD OF TIME! It's a major hassle to book your times upon arrival. Just check-in, find a guy named Ventura and book your tour packages with him. Trust me, he'll take very good care of you. The room was extremely clean, as was the rest of the hotel. The downside was the food. Breakfast was very good, but lunch and dinner was very disappointing, especially relative to most all-inclusives. Food on the town was great everywhere we went and reasonably priced. Try "Laguna" restaurant next door to Senor Frogs downtown Ixtapa. The marketplaces in Ixtapa and Zihuatanejo were typical Mexican marketplaces with extremely friendly local merchants and prices were very good. You have to cab everywhere you go outside the hotel. Prices were reasonable and posted in the hotel lobby. We absolutely loved Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo and the Melia Azul. We'd return in a heartbeat!
