    Features
What to expect: Dating to 1885, the hotel embodies Bermuda's history as a vacation destination—all chronicled on a wall with photographs and notes—and continues to serve as the island's "Grande Dame" social center. Expansions over the decades created a business/vacation hotel arrayed on 400 yards of harborfront. The hotel's storied history includes service during World War II as the Allies' Atlantic intelligence center, housing 1,200 agents known as the Princess Spies. A $25-million renovation completed in 2002 refreshed the hotel without affecting its colonial style.

Amenity highlights: Although not on a beach, the hotel features two 90-by-35-foot pools, one freshwater and the other saltwater, surrounded by terra-cotta sundecks furnished with lounge chairs. A lighted concrete path with teak deck chairs runs 400 yards along the harbor. From here, guests take a complimentary shuttle boat 25 minutes across the harbor to a companion resort, the Fairmont Southampton, where they enjoy access to a private beach; an 18-hole, par-3 executive golf course; a 30,000-square-foot health-and-beauty spa featuring a large indoor pool and spacious spa tubs on ocean-view sundecks; and nine restaurants, including one in a house dating from the mid-17th century.

Insider tip: Writer Mark Twain visited Bermuda regularly for 43 years, once writing of the island, "You may go to Heaven if you want to. I'd druther stay here." He'd relax on the Hamilton Princess' veranda, reciting poetry and regaling guests with tall tales while puffing on cigar or pipe. Inside the lobby a bronze statue of Twain sitting on a teak bench with arm extended along the bench's back allows guests to take a seat and have their photographs taken.

Harley's - Two-level dining room overlooking Hamilton Harbour, pool. Buffet and á la carte breakfast. Sunday brunch. Lunch choices such as codfish cakes, fish and chips, sandwiches, salads. Dinner featuring U.S. prime-grade, dry-aged steaks, crab cakes, and cassava-smoked chicken fritters stuffed with coconut. Poolside bar with seating under umbrellas. Dinner dress code: long pants or Bermuda shorts and knee socks, collared shirts for men.

The Heritage Court - Colonial Bermuda-style ambience. Famed afternoon tea with British silver tea sets, Belgian china, Italian linens, and two menus. Rum Tea menu includes sandwiches such as smoked-duck-and-kumquat. Second menu includes sandwiches such as braised lamb in Parmesan focaccia, goat cheese and watercress in saffron brioche. Continental breakfast. Piano music in evenings.

HP's Coffee Shop - Pastries, deserts, Seattle's Best coffee drinks.

If you want to stay near Hamilton, there is no other place. Not on the beach, but two pools and a delightful setting on the harbor. A lovely place to stay in town.

The hotel is a classic historic property. Lovely infact. The 2 swimming pools are great. The ferry service to the sister hotel and beach is ok, but limited departure times. The should have an expanded timetable. We ended up taking the public ferry when the hotel's ferry wasn't available. The gym is small, ok. the gym at the sister hotel with the spa is nice, but they charge you to use it. Spa pool available for free after 6 pm. The restaurants at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess are very good. The only minus is the avaiability of the staff. We had to bee put on hold almost every time we called the front desk. They don't have enough people working the front desk, and don't seem to care if the guests wait 5+ minutes on hold. Also, the concereige was unable to reach the Dolphin Quest office but I was able to call them long distance in my room using my US cell phone. Strange. Guests shouldn't have to go down to the front desk to get help after being on hold on the phone for a long time.

One night business trip August 9th 2006 - far exceeded any expectations I had. Stayed in the Fairmont Gold section of the hotel - this is the standard other hotels should be compared to (and aspire to). The word "perfect" is apt.

Hamilton Princess is the best value if you do not require a "beachfront" accomodation.

We had requested early check-in two months in advance and were denied it after being strung along for approximately 3 hours. Additionally, there was a candy wrapper, presumably from a previous guest, on the floor by our bed. We also discovered roughly 25-30 ants crawling around in our sheets. When we notified the front desk, they sent a housekeeper to our room to assess the situation. They told us that they would change the sheets and spray the bed. We found this unacceptable and asked for another room. Staff then told us that we might not get a room comparable in size and type to the one we had booked and already paid for in full. After much ado, and protesting by us, they located a comparable room for us. This hotel is beautiful, has excellent ammenities and a fantastic location. However, poor housekeeping and interactions with less than accommodating/gracious staff have left a sour taste in my mouth. I'd be hard pressed to recommend this hotel to others.

The Princess is an elegant resort. Everything you would expect from a 4-5 star property. The staff was great (despite losing our reservation), but be prepared to pay for your stay in paradise. Food and beverages are expensive at the hotel and everywhere else for that matter. Upside: service is friendly and efficient. The ferry to the sister hotel in Southampton is a bonus. Nice beach, not crowded in May/June. Allow sufficient time to get there and back. Overall, as good a choice as any for first-timers. Heck, Mark Twain used to hang out at this place.

This hotel is awesome ... but as in all things awesome, it has cracks here and there. Inconsistent service, meal service, check in timing and commitment, for example. Great location, although it seems Front Street ain't what it used to be.

The Fairmount Princess Hamilton is a wonderful place to stay. It is walking distance to all the restaurants and shops in Hamilton. This is a big plus since the food at the hotels can be rather pricey and you don't have to hire a cab to take you around. Hamilton has a wide variety of restaurants to chose from to satisfy all culinary needs. The other exceptional feature to this hotel is that they offer a free ferry ride to their sister hotel-- the Fairmount Southhampton. The ferry takes about 30 minutes and then you take a short shuttle right to their private (and must I say, beautiful) beach. You have access to all their amenities as well. The beachside cafe offers food and drink and you can put in on your hotel tab. You can also rent snorkel gear and rafts to relax on the crystal clear ocean. The Hamilton Princess has a cycle rental shop on site. A trip to Bermuda wouldn't be complete with a tour of the island on moped. We celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary there and can't wait to go back!!
