Features
What to expect: The Lafayette, one of the first buildings in the city to offer modern plumbing, has stayed true to the region's unique architecture. A small interior balcony with the traditional, cast-iron New Orleans banister overlooks the reception desk. Ground-floor rooms have 10-foot ceilings and elegant crown moldings. Guests include leisure travelers in town to explore, and business travelers looking for a relatively short walk to the convention center.
Amenity highlights: The hotel's restaurant serves contemporary spins on New Orleans cuisine, including greens-stuffed pork chops and plenty of Gulf seafood. The restaurant's bar has a packed humidor.
Insider tip: Some of the city's most celebrated chefs have restaurants within walking distance, including Emeril Lagasse's namesake restaurant (5 blocks away) and Susan Spicer's Herbsaint (1 block). Every Saturday morning, a local farmer's market is set up 2 blocks away.
Johnny Ryan's New Orleans Restaurant - This restaurant, which opened in late 2002, offers white-tablecloth service and an upscale refinement of New Orleans cuisine. The airy room features a large window overlooking verdant Lafayette Square. Featured dishes include fresh Gulf seafood; there's also a host of oysters on the menu. The restaurant is smoke-free; smokers are offered seating in rooms off the hotel's bar. Johnny Ryan's New Orleans Bar - This long, narrow bar just off the lobby also serves as the smoking section for Johnny Ryan's Restaurant diners. The bar has a humidor with a wide selection of cigars.

| Let's face it, NOLA is still hurting. But the staff at the Lafayette, almost made us forget that stuff outside the hotel doors. The room was classic, clean, large and spacious, with what seem like 12 foot ceilings (top floor). But the real gem was the staff. And you didn't have to seek it out - some of our best tips came from the housekeeping supervisor - at least that's what I think she was. I will definitely stay at the Lafayette again; I want to visit when the city is back on it's feet to see how grand it really can be.

| Had I known they were undergoing major rennovations on both the restaurant and the bar I would have chosen a different hotel. While the room was nice enough (2nd room after first putting me in a smoking room after requesting non-smoking) the view was the air conditioning unit and brick wall. There was jelly on the coffee desk (actually it was just not clean) as well someone else's band aids by the bed. Staff was friendly and helpful but I won't go back.

| We had a great time in New Orleans. The Lafayette Hotel was within walking distance to the French Quarter and far enough away to be quiet. I would definitely stay here again.

| The property is in need of some maintenance work. It has the potential to be a charming hotel but badly worn bathroom fixtures, broken/missing baseboards detract from the place. It is a quiet hotel and out of the noise of the Quarter but close enough to walk Quarter.

| Excellent location for us. Right on the St. Charles Ave streetcar line. Walking distance to D-Day, Confederate museums,Emeril's. Not far from French Quarter, Riverwalk. Good size rooms and bathrooms. Not huge place, but almost homey. I'd go back.
