The hotel needs a renovation in the rooms and hallways. Doors in the room should be re-painted, one of the t.v.'s did not have a remote control. A person was sent to look at it, but did not solve the problem (cable channels were not avilable and to use the t.v. it had to be done manually. We had a great time in Chicago, the Congress Hotel will not be on our list for our next trip.

It was farther south on Michigan Ave than I thought. I like something a little more central. The maid left our door open when she was finished cleaning and the hotel kind of acted like it was no big deal. Poor service in the restaurant--very good service in the bar. We travel to Chicago atleast twice a year so I am always looking for a good hotel.

The room was not very clean. The view was towards three sides of the hotel. The shower would not work properly and very little hot water. Was not at all pleased. The only satisfactory thing was the location.

Although the hotel had a quaintness to it it was not well maintained.

This hotel gets 2 stars from expedia, but its price reflects those two stars. If you're coming into town to see the sights and sounds of the city, and not spend the whole time in your hotel room, then this is the place for you. It is situated fantastically across from Grant park and within walking distance to the Art Institute, Millenium Park, and a short cab or bus ride to the Field Museum, Shedd Aquarium, and Planetarium. There aren't a lot of fancy frills with this hotel, but the rooms are large and comfortable. Parking is expensive ($28/night for valet) and can add significantly to your total cost of stay if you stay for more than a couple of nights. Overall I was very satisified with my experience there and will return to that hotel on my next visit to Chicago.

This hotel has quite a grand, old fashioned vibe. At over 100 years old it still reatins most of its original grand elegance. High ceilings are a refreshing change from your standard cookie-cutter hotel chains. It does have a certain lived-in feel, but nothing atrocious. Bathrooms are modern and the lobby/hall rugs were upgraded with marble since my previous visit a year ago. Get a lakeview room overlooking Grant Park!

though this hotel was great back in the 70s, this hotel is not the greatest any more. the bar has a pool table and video games that barely work. the wallpaper is falling off the walls and the toilets are practically on the floor. it is in a decent location and the people working there are friendly and helpful.

The hotel was ok - but nothing more. I got quite a good rate for a room facing to the back yard. But I didn't expect more since I stayed there only for some hours of sleep. The location is quite ok even if you have to have a walk at least two blocks or so to get a train. I don't know other hotels in Chicago, however I would classify this hotel as 'second choice' when I have to choose next time.
