Recreation
Encinitas is one of several beach communities along the North San Diego County coast. Long sandy beaches, including Moonlight Beach, four blocks from the hotel, are well-suited for surfing, volleyball, running, and sunbathing. Bicycle rentals are available in Encinitas, Leucadia, Cardiff-by-the-Sea, Del Mar, and Solana Beach. A bike and running path stretches along the beach and highway between these cities. The recreational activities listed below are available either on site or near the hotel; fees may apply.

Features
What to expect: Surfers, families, and business travelers find friendly service and comfortable rooms in this 45-room hotel, set in the midst of North San Diego beach communities. Flower-lined courtyards dot the property, and an outdoor spa tub is located next to the lobby. There are eight beaches within six miles of the hotel, the closest being Moonlight Beach, four blocks away. Amenity highlights: Guests enjoy a complimentary Continental breakfast in the lobby each morning. Breakfast choices include locally-made baked goods, fresh fruit, cereals, herbal teas, and Starbucks coffee. The large outdoor spa tub is open until 10 PM every night. Limited business services include access to a fax machine, copier, and in-room dial-up Internet access (fee). Insider tip: Encinitas is a relaxing, almost rustic beach town, and has lots of places to unwind. The best is the Self-Realization Fellowship Temple built by yogi Paramahansa Yogananda in 1920, two miles from the hotel. Open to the public, the temple is a calming retreat with lotus-shaped towers, spectacular views of the ocean, and a lush, cliff-side meditation garden.
A complimentary Continental breakfast is provided in the lobby each morning. The hotel does not have its own restaurant, but there are several dining options within the surrounding area. Nearby restaurants: Big Jim's Old South BBQ Leucadia Pizza Meritage Restaurant & Bar

| It is about a 5 minute walk through a quiet neighborhood to the beach. Also within walking distance are restaurants and shops. A great location for a relaxing weekend.

| The first thing you notice is that the layout/configuration of the property is odd: It is on a long, thin lot stretching between Coast Highway and the next street to the west. There are two long, thin buildings running the length of the property, with a cement driveway/parking lot in between them. The "parking spaces" are wedged between posts under the building, and nearly impossible to get into from the narrow center driveway - quite aggravating. The only views from the rooms are either across the driveway into someone else's window, or to the dilapidated properties on either side of the motel. The rooms are reasonably spacious and fairly clean, and the TV and refrigerator work. The big disappointment was that both of my queen beds - yes, I tried them both, hoping for improvement - were AWFUL to sleep on. I could feel the springs, and I initially thought I was sleeping on the box springs, but it turned out to be the matress! I won't go back - even for an overnight stay - until they get decent beds! Also - The on-site proprietors are very nice, helpful people.

| The name "Portofino Beach Inn" is very deceptive. It is many, many, many "steps to the beach". Ocean view is distant and over roof tops. This is not an "Inn", it is a motel, albeit a fairly clean one. Location is on Hwy 101 right accross from the railroad tracks. So if you are looking fo an Inn on or at the beach you should consider an other location.

| Checked in on Christmas day, we had got off our cruise ship and arrived before the check in time. Our room wasn't quite ready but the owners were very apologetic and gave us free internet during our 7 day stay. EXCELLENT hospitality, and very quiet. Parking is bit of a pain but we parked at the front of the building which fixed that issue. Our room was clean and service was over the top. Nice large hot tub which was never busy. Continental breakfast had a variety of items including cereal, pastries, fruit and juice/coffee/tea. Very close to the beach and easy access to the I-5. Can't really say enough good things as the service was more then you'd get at any large hotel chain. Kudos' to small family owned businesses. We chose to extend our stay here and drive into disneyland/LA for the balance of our trip rather then move to Anaheim. I highly recommend this hotel to the average traveller. If you are looking for a 5 star hotel stay, don't choose this one but if you like clean, friendly and convenient, you'll love the Portofino!

| Purpose of my trip was visiting my niece who lives in Leucadia. I was delighted to have a hotel on the vacation deal located so close to where she lives. The hotel was perfectly adequate.

| It's an older hotel near the beach. Clean & comfortable. Parking was a bit tight so make sure you're driving a small car. I would stay there again.

| Stayed here for the weekend. We were on the 3rd floor, so we even had vaulted ceilings! Parking is difficult - be prepared for a lot of backing up and adjusting to fit into the spaces provided. Noise was fairly typical of hotels - easier to hear slamming car doors with the parking between the two buildings housing the rooms. Staff was very friendly and helpful. I would definately stay here again.

| The Hotel was nice, however, small rooms, and clean. However, the parking stalls and structure are very narrow and its is extremely difficult to get in and get out!
