Features
What to expect: Newer and more expansive along the seafront than neighboring Casa Marina Beach, this resort is fronted by an old, cliff-like coral reef into which were built sunning terraces and three, 12-person cool-water spas overlooking the sea. By contrast, The Beach resort is fronted by a large, calm-water beach. Beach guests must walk 30-50 yards farther to reach the spas, while guests here at the Reef must traverse that distance to the beach. Amenity highlights: An international cast of sun-seekers from both resorts gathers at this resort's large, free form pool for games and sports. The Beach resort's two pools--one large with a children's section and one small--are set aside as "quiet pools" for guests of both resorts. The beach provides lots of palm trees for shade and a children's playground. Insider tip: Wrought-iron benches arrayed on a spacious flagstone terrace between this resort's pool and its sunning terraces welcome romantic couples for moonlit interludes-with-a-sea-view.
All restaurants and bars in Casa Marina Reef and Casa Marina Beach are open to guests of both as part of the All-Inclusive Plan. El Acantilado - This open-air place serves as Casa Marina Reef's international-style buffet restaurant for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Sea Scape – Fresh seafood is the specialty for afternoon snacks and dinner (reservations required). Luigi – A la carte Italian fare for dinners only (reservations required). El Jalapeno - This open-air restaurant on the Reef side serves fast foods and tropical drinks during the day and specializes in à la carte Mexican cuisine at dinner. Reservations required.
El Batey - This open-air place serves as Casa Marina Beach's international-style buffet restaurant for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. A la carte dining is available at Sea Scape, Jalapeno, and Luigi Restaurants for dinner (reservations required). Between them, the two resorts contain 10 bars, including one in Calipso Disco that remains open until 3 AM, but is not part of the All-Inclusive Plan. Room service is not available.

| I was definitely satisfied with the hotel for the price. The hotel was clean. I thought the food was great, mostly international food and also a taste of Dominican food. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The hotel shows were entertaining and interactive, for those who want to participate. The only thing I was not satisfied with was the beach. I have seen beautiful beaches in the Dominican Republic and that is not one of them. I stuck to the pool. I felt very comfortable there although most of the travelers were Europeans but that was because of the level of service the staff provided. What I didn't feel comfortable with was walking outside the hotel. Some of the people were pushing, trying to sell you things, but it was mostly the Haitians foreigners, not the Dominicans. Watch out for some companies that try and sell you excursions, they charge too much. I made that mistake. The hotel excursions is the best bet, not the tour desk. The tour desk is not part of the hotel. I would suggest when booking an excursion with the hotel only do those where same day payment is okay because if paid in advance and the excursion is cancelled a refund may not be guaranteed. They may tell you that it is refunded but I wouldn't trust that. Also there is not too many hotel nightclubs around. If venturing out to local clubs, I would ask the hotel workers for the best suggestion. Overall, I would go back to this hotel.

| The hotel was fine. However, didn't like the fact that the room key accessed the air conditioner. Therefore, when you left the room, you must remove the key which turns off the ac. Then when you return to your room, you have to insert the card key which turns on the ac. Also, not enough light in the room. Other than that, everyone was nice and friendly.

| All-in-all our vacation was relaxing and enjoyable. The beach was never crowded. No matter what time we went out we always found chairs. Also, the view from the beach is amazing and the water is crystal clear. Negatives: The staff is generally unhelpful, especially the front desk. The rooms are not the cleanest and beds are uncomfortable. Our air conditioning did not work for our entire stay even after repeatedly reporting the problem. I heard several other guests complaining about the same problem. Knowing that it is only a 3-star resort and is all inclusive do not expect much from the food. It was edible, but that is about all I can say for it. The worst was that the buffet for breakfast and lunch was the same every day. There are not too many Americans staying at the resort (mostly European travelers). Sometimes we felt really out of place and the language barriers were obvious. Excursions: We took the jeep safari tour and truly enjoyed the waterfall portion of the trip. It was also very interesting to see the countryside. However, after an entire day of driving around it gets old (8am - 4pm). Also, it seemed like they were only taking us to places where we would buy things and felt obligated to do so as well as tip them. We did the catamaran trip, which was great! You spend the entire day in the sun sailing around the island. You also get drinks, lunch (some of the best food we ate) and snorkeling. The crew was extremely social, which made it fun.

| This hotel had the best location for Puerta Plata. Enjoyed walking out the front area of the hotel to beach strip shopping. Be prepaired to haggle for your price, and know the street venders can be pushy. We only went outside during daylight hours, and we (2 females) had no problems. The hotel staff could be friendlier. The beach area is very dangerous water-several people on crutches with injuries from undertow/ water conditions. The hotel rooms were ok..not the prettiest-we did not spend much time there. They do not have an elevator in the hotel. This is a large complex and a lot of walking. You should take a cup-their cups are all 8oz size. The food was ok..nothing great there except the Italian food (Luigi's) you need reservations. The A/C did not seem to cool the room enough - the electricity is off when you remove your room key. Purchased the transportaion service-Need to ask them what is your return time for your departure date when they drop you off. Overall, this was a good vacation and good place to stay. I heard others complain they were not able to go outside of their hotel areas. Massages were great-1/3 of what you would pay in the US. Nightlife was missing here! I would recommend this hotel...just don't expect a 5 star hotel when this is probably a 2.5 star. Don't overlook this hotel though. If I were to ever go back to Puerto Plata, I would stay here over anywhere else.

| This is not a luxury hotel, but a fair value for the money. You get one gallon jug of drinking water at check in. After that, your on your own. No ice, no bucket, go get your own ice anyway you can. No inroom refrigerator, iron, dryer, or any of that stuff. No room service. Storage safe costs $15.00 US, not free. The hotel grounds, pools, and views excellent. The beaches are beautiful. We did all inclusive and the food was more than adequate. However, beware "free all inclusive booze" ENDED AT 10PM, after that cash bars. The small beach town of Sosua which is walking distance was lively, lots of bars, music, tables in the street. Lots of ladies great for singles. Marrieds or couples would probably like the resort area better, it's real romatic, scenic and beautiful. The waves on the bay crashing against the rocks, the "Seaside" restaurant overlooks the bay, it will melt your heart. So ignore the frills and lack of room comforts, you should be outside anyway, or why go to an ocean resort...enjoy!

| We have been to the DR 4 times and stayed in different all inclusive resorts each visit. This resort was conveniently located by the public beach & shopping of Sasoua, public areas and food were great but guestroom conditions were horrible! The room was never cleaned properly and cigarette smoke was filtered in the room from the A/C system (kept me awake it was so strong!) The power would periodically go out but would come back on within seconds. The food was the best out of any resort we've visited, plenty of variety. The nightly shows were entertaining with great costumes. Most guests are European and fun to interact with. Service was inconsistent, we attempted tipping for better service especially from the housekeeper but the $ had no effect. My husband was disappointed that the red flag was up on the beach every day so we could not use kayaks or other water equipment. The jacuzzis had a great sunset view but are cold. Pools, beach and landscaping beautiful. All around great trip but not for someone looking to be pampered!

| Grounds are beautiful - lush landscape and CLEAN; buffet changes everyday and there are 3 a la carte restaurants; staff is very friendly; pools are wonderful as is the beach; lots of activities for children. While the rooms are not the most luxurious, who stays in their room all day long when they are on vacation - they are clean and satisfactory? For an all-inclusive, it is definitely worth the money!!!

| The rooms in this hotel were terrible. It had a weird smell. Late at night we couldn't flush the toilets and the AC was not working properly. THe pool, view and food were great. There were no laundry service and the lights use to go out once in a while.
