Features
What to expect: The sunken lobby is a refined place to sip coffee or relax with a newspaper. Some of the original Beaux Arts details remain, such as crown molding and wooden columns crowned with laurel wreaths. Business travelers appreciate the large guestrooms with separate studies or sitting rooms, while couples enjoy the historic ambience and proximity to the Dupont Circle Metro, shops, and galleries.
Amenity highlights: Built in 1906 as an apartment house, this hotel is a member of the Historic Hotels of America. The intimate Chartwell Grill, named after Sir Winston Churchill’s estate, is known for its crab cakes and steaks. Wireless Internet access (surcharge) is available throughout the hotel.
Insider tip: The Phillips Collection, three blocks away, is considered the nation’s first modern-art museum. Duncan Phillips, grandson of a steel magnate, and his wife, painter Marjorie Acker, were avid collectors of Impressionist and Cubist art. Today, their 1890s townhouse-turned-museum has about 6,500 paintings, including Renoir’s famous Luncheon of the Boating Party.

| We spent two nights at the Churchill and enjoyed the experience very much. We like older hotels that are in good shape and this one was. The staff was helpful and friendly. The location is great for Metro access at Dupont Circle, and excellent restaurants within a quick walk.

| Friendly, comforatble hotel with big well appointed rooms (at least ours was). Location is great if you are attnding a conference across the street, but it is about a 10 min walk to Dupont Circle Metro station. TV never worked quite right but they went to great lengths to try and fix it.

| The Churchill Hotel was a real pleasure after 3 nights in a fancier but more cramped hotel. My teenage son and I had a bedroom with two double beds, a 'living room' and another little room with a table and chairs. It was heavenly to have a bit of space to ourselves and we didn't have to watch the same TV shows! It was in a great location close to both Dupont Circle and Adams/Morgan.
