    The Buccaneer Amenities
Original artworks by local artists grace public spaces, including murals and wall paintings in the spacious, open-air Great House lobby that offers panoramic sea and sunset views and a view of Christiansted to the west. Adjacent to the Great House, a shopping arcade includes souvenir, clothing, and home-decoration shops.

Complimentary features include activities for children age 4–12, Internet access through a lobby computer, and shuttle service. Guests also have complimentary use of a fitness center that remains open around the clock. A health-and-beauty spa offers massage, body treatments, facials, hair and nail care, waxing, and a sauna. Adjacent to the spa is a 50-by-22 pool terraced into a hillside.

    Recreation
The resort includes an 18-hole championship golf course featuring Caribbean Sea views and eight tennis courts (two lighted), with fees charged for play. Meandering through the resort's 340 acres is a 2-mile jogging/nature trail that includes workout stations and signs identifying trees and plants. (A guided nature walk occurs weekly.) Use of kayaks and snorkeling gear is complimentary.

Boat trips to 880-acre Buck Island Reef National Monument, which features an underwater snorkeling trail, depart from Christiansted 3 miles from the resort. Kayak tours of Salt River National Park 11 miles away are another popular St. Croix attraction.

    Features
What to expect: Family owned and operated since it opened as an 11-room inn in 1948, The Buccaneer occupies 340 hilly acres between a large lagoon and the Caribbean Sea and attracts families, romantic couples, and older adults. Many guests come year after year, passing down loyalty to succeeding generations. Long-time staff members greet repeat visitors like family. Peace and quiet reign. Guests dress for dinner.

Parts of the resort's Great House (main building) date to the 1650s, when a tobacco and indigo plantation was established on the site. The Great House was intentionally positioned slightly behind a hilltop to conceal it from pirates. As a boy, Alexander Hamilton lived there. So did St. Croix's first Danish governor. An 18th-century stone sugar mill, popular for weddings, serves as the site for a complimentary cocktail party each Tuesday.

Amenity highlights: The resort features three beaches, including centrally located, 120-yard-long Mermaid Beach. Grotto Beach, 0.25 miles long with a close-in reef creating a calm-water area for children, provides good snorkeling on one end. Accessible only by walking path, 120-yard-long Whistle Beach offers tranquil, secluded swimming and sunbathing. A large, freeform pool is located adjacent to Grotto Beach.

Insider tip: Low-cost shuttle service is available to Christiansted 3 miles away, with van service beginning in the morning and the last returning in early evening.

A complimentary buffet breakfast is provided daily. On Tuesdays, there's a complimentary cocktail party in an 18th-century stone sugar mill near the main building.

The Terrace - Covered, open-air spot in main building with views of Caribbean Sea, Christiansted Harbor, golf course. Dinner menu with choices such as Herb-crusted Rack of Lamb, Thai-barbecue Salmon, Striploin Steak, Tortellini Carbonara, sandwiches, burgers. Kids' menu available.

The Terrace Bar - Open evenings for tropical drinks, live music, dancing.

The Mermaid - Lunches of salads, sandwiches, wraps, desserts, tropical drinks. Kids' menu available. Located at Mermaid Beach.

The Grotto Grill - Lunches of sandwiches, hot dogs, burgers, tropical drinks. Located by Grotto Beach and pool.

Our honeymoon at the Buccaneer was more than we imagined! Upon our arrival friendly staff members offered us complimentary rum punch. The Tuesday night Welcome Cocktail Hour introduced us to all this resort has to offer; great food, lively entertainment, amazing views, and a staff that caters to your every need. Our ocean front deluxe room was located steps from the beach with the relaxing sounds of palms swaying and waves lapping the shoreline. We chose the Buccaneer for its promise of a "country club" atmosphere, prefering a laid back honeymoon with options of quiet sunbathing, golf, and use of the spa. In August, the resort is sparsely populated..plenty of lounge chairs on the beach, lots of space in the pool, available tee times, and a general feeling of privacy. The complimentary breakfast buffet is tremendous. Talented musicians provided entertainment on the Terrace every evening. We were most impressed by the three beautiful beaches, the wide open space of the resort, the twice daily maid service, the gorgeous golf course, and the convenient proximity to Christiansted. We recommend taking the 1/2 day sightseeing trip that departs from the resort and the snorkeling trip to Buck island's pristine beaches! I see my husband and I returning to the Buccaneer someday as a couple or even with children. Before our trip, we met several people who've been to the Buccaneer and told us we were going to love it...well, we've been there and we loved it!

Somehow Buccaneer has found a way to capture the untouch beauty of this Virgin Island while providing for the traveler's needs! From the food to the facilities the Buccaneer keeps the authentic and historical culture alive. We wanted to experience an island that was not a "cruise ship stop" where we could explore the natural uncommercialized culture. St. Croix and the Buccaneer provided the perfect option. We mainly took advantage of four of the swimming options (3 styles of beaches and a beachside pool)for snorkeling or soaking up the sun. Both food and service were top notch at all restaurants on the property. Tennis and golf facilities weave their way through the property providing manicured visual foregrounds. The staff from the manager to the housekeepers were congenial and accomodating. We also took the short taxi ride to downtown Christiansted to take advantage of the snorkeling excursions, shopping and restaurants there. Buccaneer will be on the top of our list of places to stay on St. Croix

We just returned from a fantastic vacation in St Croix. The Buchaneer was just what we were hoping for - beautiful grounds, awesome beach, wonderful breakfasts daily and all within a few steps of our very clean and comfortable room. Twice daily maid service and a hotel staff that was willing to assit us with all requests made our vaction great. We traveled with our 15 year old son - he loved the beach and clear cable connecetion to ESPN! It's a quiet island - not much night life but, we had no trouble finding great places to eat and activities to fill the day. We look forward to a return trip!

We enjoyed this first class hotel and their staff. The concierge was very accomodating and always did quick reservations including a doctor's emergency we had. Taxis are easily available and reasonable. The room was very good except for the bed which was very hard and we did not get maid service the day before departure. We had a beautiful view of Christianted and part mountain view. I enjoyed sitting in the terrace after an afternoon swim almost everyday. The employees go out of their way to service you and alway willing to give you free rides around the property, no hesitation! For a 6 day package I got a free massage and had one day free car rental. Their "complimetary" buffet breakfast is excellent and dinners by the terrace were wonderful with tasteful music every night. The disadvantage is the night before our departure we could hear the music in our room and for some odd reason, someone was moving furniture above us. I will certainly return! And don't forget the tour trips offered in the Bucanner's newspaper, they are very good including the daily rum punch served everyday.

Huge, beautiful older property with three beautiful beaches. Spacious, well-kept rooms. Limited dining options & food rather expensive, but food is excellent. Great breakfast included. Decent snorkeling. Can tour island in a day. Especially enjoyed botanical gardens. Drive on left, but driving not bad because speed limit is rarely over 35mph & drivers are courteous & patient with tourists. REMEMBER - this is a nice place to RELAX. No organized entertainment and none nearby. Were disappointed that pools close at 5pm. After 5pm can still use the beach, but other than that nothing left to do but eat. Dining is very pleasant, though, and each night they have someone playing steel drums for the dinner guests. Hotel offers a shuttle into down at about half the price of taxis, but the last shuttle into town left at 3:00 p.m. and the last return shuttle left Christiansted at 5:30pm. The harbor and little stores are worth a short visit, and the restaurants are decent, but even the town stores close at 5 pm. For anyone planning to visit St. Croix, I would recommend staying at the Buccanneer. If you do, plan to fully enjoy the beaches and pools during the day, then expect a relaxing evening of dinner, walks around the resort & tv. Those looking for nightlife will be very disappointed. Families with younger kids just wanting to enjoy the beaches and snorkeling will be very pleased.
