I just got back from this hotel a few days ago. I went with my 13 year old nephew. We were very happy with this hotel. The staff was friendly & helpful. It was 15 min. from the airport. They provide a free airport shuttle even though it's not listed on the website. The room was spacious, comfortable & clean. I wish they vacuumed every day though. But they did clean the room daily. The beds were hard. We ate at the El Rancho Grill & the Anfora Restaurant. We ate off the menu at both & not the buffet. The prices were reasonable & food was good. We took 3 excursions booked at the hotel. All were very good. I would stay here again & was recommending the hotel to people we on the excursions. I booked it because of the price & location. I was on a tight budget.

We chose "the palace" based on prior reviews and were not disappointed. We heard from other travelers about other nice hotels in San Jose at lower cost, but they were in downtown San Jose, about which we heard disturbing comments (e.g., too much like Tijuana). Our only disappointment was that the Expedia special rate rooms were too close to the night club and the driving bass beat on weekend nights. Ear plugs helped. Also be sure to arrange an airport pickup by calling from home at least a day before arrival. Alternatively, taxi fare should not be more than $12.

When arriving in Costa Rica we weren't sure what to expect, but when we arrived at the Barcelo we felt instantly comfortable. The hotel and its grounds are beautiful and the staff was superb.

Very nice hotel, with beautiful gardens, staff was pleasant and attentive. Location between airport and downtown was good, but if driving, hard to get too as it is off a clover leaf intersection off the expressway.

Beds were too hard and pillows were as well. An addition of a couple of pillows in the closet with the blankets would have been great. Still, very nice rooms and surroundings. A credit to the housekeeping staff. Service while we were part of a "Caravan" Tour Group was better in the restaurant than it was when we were there as a two day extension on our own. Probably a credit to our tour guide. It was the weekend and they may have been short on staff. Food was varied and good, of decidedly local and International flavors (not quite to this Norte Americano's taste buds satisfaction,) with plenty of wonderful fruit selections. I didn't lose weight I might add. A pleasant experience.

Friendly, helpful staff. Restaurant was very good and although prices were steep compared to local restaurants in San Jose, the food service was great, along with service personnel. Hotel staff was very professional and bellhops especially so. The Lounge/Bar was reaonably priced with nice snacks and a food service(reasonably priced) for late nights.
