Features
What to expect: Built soon after the founding of St. Petersburg at the beginning of the 18th century, this building was transformed into a businesslike hotel in 2001, after a seven-year restoration. The hotel stands regally on Nevsky Prospect, the city’s main street, less than two blocks from the Fontanka Canal. The reception area impresses with marble floors, chandeliers, and dark woods. With its central location, upscale ambience, and array of services, this hotel attracts a mix of businesspeople and vacationers from Europe and beyond.
Amenity highlights: The hotel’s Barbazan Restaurant spotlights traditional Russian and European favorites. At the Canelle Bar & Café, tall arched windows frame views of Nevsky Prospect, and a pianist performs afternoons and evenings. The business center includes high-speed Internet access (surcharge).
Insider tip: Several blocks from the hotel is St. Petersburg’s famous food store, Yeliseev’s, housed in an impressive Style-Moderne building. Guests can browse the vodka and deli selections while admiring the extravagant interior of marble counters, crystal chandeliers, and stained-glass windows.
Barbazan - Russian and European cuisine in a warm setting of red, yellow, and blue. Colorful paintings of local entertainers. Open daily for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Cannelle Bar & Cafe - Tall, arched windows overlooking Nevsky Prospect. Drinks, including six brands of vodka, and Russian foods such as black caviar with blinis and beef Stroganov. Piano entertainment afternoons and evenings. Open daily from morning until late evening.
