Snake River Lodge & Spa Amenities
The five-story, 17,000-square-foot Avanyu Spa features an indoor/outdoor pool with waterfalls, innovative hydrotherapy-based treatments, a top-floor fitness room with mountain views, and a yoga/Pilates studio. Women’s and men’s locker rooms, located on separate floors, have spa tubs, eucalyptus steam rooms, saunas, Swiss showers, dual-head rain showers, and relaxation areas (with a fireplace for women, TV for men).

Ski valets help guests with skis, and warm their boots. Dining and refreshment options include the GameFish restaurant and the Fireside Bar. A spa menu is served poolside, in relaxation areas, and in the bar. Complimentary wireless Internet access is available throughout the hotel.

A member of the RockResorts group, this hotel is on the 2004 Condé Nast Gold List - Reserve and received the Condé Nast Traveler’s 2004 Readers’ Choice Award as one of the top resorts in the United States.

Recreation
The hotel’s Avanyu Spa has a year-round indoor/outdoor pool and several spa tubs. A fitness room on the spa’s fifth floor includes cardio machines, Cybex strength-training equipment, free weights, four TVs, and mountain views. Yoga and Pilates classes are held in the adjacent studio (surcharge).

Offering ski-in access, the hotel is about 30 yards from the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort’s aerial tram. The resort has 11 lifts, 120 runs, 2,500 acres of in-bound ski terrain, and 3,000 backcountry acres. Trails are 10% beginner, 40% intermediate, and 50% advanced; snowboarding is permitted. Skiers can experience a continuous vertical drop from 10,450 feet to 6,311 feet.

Across from the hotel, the Saddlehorn Activity Center offers horseback riding, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and dog sledding. The hotel can arrange Snake River fly fishing, whitewater rafting, horseback riding, tandem paragliding, balloon rides, and other outdoor adventures. Grand Teton National Park is just one mile away.

Teton Pines, five miles away, has a championship golf course designed by Arnold Palmer. The Jackson Hole Golf & Tennis Club, 10 miles from the hotel, includes a top-ranked course redesigned by Robert Trent Jones, Jr.

The recreational activities listed below are available either on site or near the hotel; fees may apply.

Features
What to expect: The Teton peaks form a dramatic backdrop to this upscale lodge across from the Saddlehorn Activity Center. An antler chandelier illuminates the porte-cochere, and a carved bear bench adds a note of whimsy. In the lobby, Oriental rugs accent gleaming hardwood floors, carved bear cubs peek out from pillars and lamps, guests relax on leather couches, and a stone fireplace creates a welcoming glow.

Amenity highlights: At the five-level Avanyu Spa, heated waterfalls spill over boulders into the freeform indoor/outdoor pool. Spa tubs are tucked into steam-filled grottos. Signature treatments include a mud bath inspired by the paint pots of Yellowstone National Park, and the Avanyu Retreat, featuring a warm wrap of seawater gel.

The GameFish restaurant serves creative Western fare such as Coriander-Crusted Venison Medallion, Smoked Trout Salad, and Free Range Beef Ribeye with White Cheddar Potatoes.

Insider tip: Romance-minded guests can bundle up for a horse-drawn sleigh ride along a wooded trail, culminating with a four-course fireside dinner at Solitude Cabin. Sleighs depart from the Saddlehorn Activity Center across from the hotel.

GameFish - Panoramic views of the Gros Ventre Mountains complement the regional cuisine. Specialties include Smoked Trout Cakes, Grilled Wapiti Elk Chop with Scalloped Sweet Potatoes, and Buffalo Filet Mignon Wrapped in Apple-Smoked Bacon. Vanilla Bean Crème Brûlée and Chocolate Torta are among the dessert temptations. The 140-label wine list received the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence in 2004. Breakfast, lunch, dinner daily. Usually closed April and November.

Fireside Bar - This intimate, red-walled lounge serves single-malt scotches, microbrews, wine, cocktails, and light fare by a stone fireplace. Menu highlights include Caramelized Baby Brie, the Fireside Cheese Plate, and Elk Quesadillas. The GameFish menu is also available. Open daily, afternoon until late night.

A spa menu is available poolside, in the spa relaxation areas, and in the Fireside Bar.

the hotel was very nice and the service great with the exception of one day when we did not get room clean up until mid-afternoon. The service personnel was all very accomodating and pleasant. Our biggest disappointment was the size of the room, which we found to be rather small.

My husband and I prepaid this reservation through Expedia.com. The room that I chose was described as "mountain view." Imagine our surprize with our room, therefore, when we checked into the hotel. We had to reach the floor by an elevator that had shaky grates that we had to open and close before the elevator would move. Then our room--its "view" was that of a concrete corridor that was surrounded by wooden lattice that you would use for a rose trellis--sans flowers! Yes, we were livid, and only after we complained were we offered another room. My point? We never should have been treated so shabbily in the first place. After that incident, the rest of our stay was very pleasant. This hotel has some wonderful features and really wonderful employees--such as the staff in its restaurant and the very helpful people at its concierge desk.

The room was very nice, with a modern bathroom and great bedding. The indoor/outdoor pool is awesome. My kids loved the waterfalls. The food in the restaurant is very nice (high end), but they also offer food in the bar area which was simple, very tasty, and reasonably priced. I loved my chipotle breakfast burrito. If you are visiting the Grand Tetons, the location can't be beat. It's a 3 minute drive to the entrance to the park, but be warned, to get from that entrance to the Visitors Center, you have to take a narrow road that is a dirt road for a few miles in the middle. It was no trouble for my rented Subaru Outback, but I understand it is often closed in the winter and looked a little rough on minivans.

We stayed at some very nice hotels on our two week road trip, but Snake River Lodge was the very best. We would have liked to spend a week there and will certainly consider doing so in the future. Do not miss this hotel. It would be worth staying at even if it was in New Jersey.

We traveled here on the recommendation of friends, and they were right on the money! Beautiful place. The mountain scenery is fantastic. Everything was well maintained and the staff very helpful. Yellowstone is about an hour away and be sure to drive over the pass into Idaho. Some of the most gorgeous mountain scenery ever. Would definitely go back again. Don't forget to check out the spa.

A nice, soft, huge pillow top bed would have been the icing on the cake. Also, your posted pool/hot tub hours should be followed, meaning your maintenance staff shouldn't be allowed to close the pool or hot tubs down at will. 10:00PM means 10:00PM not 7:00PM!! Reasonable SPA packages would have been a plus also. I can get the same massage in my town for 1/2 the price. A massage session shouldn't cost more than 1 night at the hotel.
