| We wanted to see all of Maine, but we didn't want to pay top dollar for the fancy resorts at the shore or in the mountains, so wechose to base ourselves at the Howard Johnson Inn - Bangor. We rented a car and took day trips all over the state, covering 1500 miles in 15 days. Because we got a great rate on the hotel, we had no qualms about taking off for an overnight stay in New Brunswick, Canada, even though it meant we were renting two hotel rooms for the same night. The HJ restaurant attached to the Inn was a big plus. It was easy for us to grab breakfast on our way out in the morning and those nights when we got back late and tired, we didn't have to go searching for a clean restaurant. The hotel also had free, fresh, hot coffee for those mornings when we wanted to get an early start. The pool was clean and we found it a great place to relax after a hot day of touring Maine. And, because we had a 6:30AM flight home, HJ's proximity to the airport was a boon. (It also meant that we had jets taking off and landing at all hours of the night and day, but our room was really sound-proof, so this was not a problem for us.)

| We stayed here only as a stopover. It was fine for those purposes, but nothing to write home about. The "heated" pool was not really heated. Although we had a non-smoking room, the entire motel still had a stale smoke odor.
