    Features
What to expect: Dating from the early 20th century, this white-brick building fringed with palm trees stands opposite the fourth-century SS. Quattro Coronati Church. A wall of black roses by Italian artist Paolo Canevari makes a dramatic statement inside, while colorful art displayed in the rest of the marble lobby complements the lilacs and blues of the lounge area. The hotel hosts mainly businesspeople during the week and vacationers on weekends.

Amenity highlights: The glass-topped, black-marble Centrum Bar serves light meals, snacks, and cocktails, as well as 31 brands of whiskey and four brands of Cuban cigars. Drinks and a light, a la carte menu are also served on the two roof-top terraces, open year-round. One offers views of the Colosseum; the other, lined with lemon trees, olive trees, and rambling roses, overlooks the SS. Quattro Coronati Church.

Insider tip: The immediate area is rich in tiny art galleries exhibiting the work of young local artists; at least three venues are within two blocks of the hotel. On via dei SS. Quattro behind the hotel are a number of family-run trattoria—many apparently untouched by the commercial demands of the area—as well as an old-fashioned chocolatier and an antiquarian bookstore.

A complimentary breakfast buffet is provided each morning.

Breakfast Room - Cold breakfast buffet including meat, cheese, cereal, fruit, yogurt, and pastries delivered daily from a local bakery. Contemporary room opening to roof terraces on two sides, with seasonal outdoor dining. Light colors, cushioned seating. Large, colorful canvas by Italian artist Mariano Rossano behind the buffet bar. Complimentary daily newspapers.

Centrum Bar - Light meals and snacks, including Norwegian Smoked Salmon, Tuscan Beef Filet, lasagna. 31 brands of whiskey; cocktails including the hotel’s own Caput Mundi frozen drink. Four kinds of Cuban cigar. Glass-topped, black-marble bar. Additional seating around low round tables. Adjoining lounge with wall of black roses by Italian artist Paolo Canevari; additional contemporary works that reflect the lilacs and blues of the sofas and wicker chairs.

Roof terrace - Serves drinks and a light, a la carte menu.

The hotel does not have its own full-service restaurant, but there are several dining options within the surrounding area.

You can find excellent Italian restaurants really nearby, not things that you will find in your guide book. The staff is nice. I don't know what the standards of hotels in Italy are, but this one is very nice and clean.

We enjoyed our stay immensely. This is a first class hotel with affordable rates. Do not fall for the St. Ana trick. Go to Old Bear instead!

Hotel was 3 blocks from the Colosseum, and close to the Forum and other ruins. However it's a longer walk to other areas. Service was great. Staff was very friendly, offered lots of advice on dinner, walks, directions. Breakfast was quite excellent, and a nice roof top patio for your own picnic. Room was very nice, with slippers and a bathrobe. However, I'm not sure if they ever vacuumed.

Prior to my reservation, I spent several days casually looking through hotels and what I might like; where they were located and what they had to offer. I found the hotel reviews from other Expedia guests very helpful. With respect to Capo D'Africa, I agree with every review, except the one that gave the hotel less the 5 stars! The hotel is lovely, clean, well appointed and the service was excellent in every respect. Word to the tourist . . . of course, you want to have a cappucino while sitting just 2 blocks away from the hotel over looking the Colosseum. However, you will pay 4 - 5 euro for this pleasure. Just one block up from the hotel; and just 1 - 2 blocks to the left, you will find a coffee shop where all of the locals go. Coffee is only .80. It is actually much better than at the tourist traps. Restaurants: Grill & Wine, Via in Arcione, 74/75; Cafe Moroni, Via de Mercede; Antica Hostaria at Via San Giovanni in Laterano, 48. Pasqualin's at Colosseo, a block up on Via dei Quattro. However, the restaurant next door was not very good.

The staff were very helpful and attentive. The hotel was clean and charming. Close to colloseum and the forum. We walked to Trevi and the Spanish steps though a bit of long trip. No resturant in hotel but a couple of good resturants within 2 blocks. Overall a great experience
