    Alamanda Resort Amenities
A lobby kiosk provides dial-up Internet access (surcharge). Open-air restaurants line Orient Beach, and Alamanda Resort issues identification cards so guests can charge meals to their rooms at six of them.

The resort is part of a Caribbean-village-style development comprising little multi-colored buildings with peaked roofs and an open-air shopping/dining center (with supermarket) that lies adjacent to Alamanda Resort.

    Recreation
From the resort's pool deck, a 46-meter-long (50-yard-long) stone path leads across a narrow parking lot to Orient Bay Beach, a 2.4-km (1.5-mile) crescent of powdery sand on the Atlantic Ocean that's one of the island's principal windsurfing spots and includes a clothing-optional section a mile from Alamanda Resort. Vendors along the beach offer a wide range of other watersports as well. Open-air restaurants are spaced along the beach, and the nearest to Alamanda Resort provides complimentary use of lounge chairs to resort guests. Guests can also rent lounge chairs and umbrellas up and down the beach.

For freshwater swimming, the resort offers a 18-meter-long (60-foot-long) kidney-shape pool bordered by hedges and surrounded by a sundeck furnished with thatched shades and thickly cushioned lounge chairs. The resort provides complimentary snorkeling gear and children's beach toys. Use of two lighted tennis courts at a sister resort 274 meters (300 yards) away is complimentary.

The recreational activities listed below are available either on site or near the resort; fees may apply.

    Features
What to expect: The resort attracts couples and families seeking easy access to Orient Beach's European ambience of lounge chairs and colored umbrellas arranged in geometric patterns, as well as to watersports and to an adjoining open-air shopping/dining center.

Amenity highlights: The resort features a 18.3-meter-long (60-foot-long) kidney-shape pool surrounded by thatched shades and thickly cushioned lounge chairs. From the pool, a 46-meter-long (50-yard-long) path leads across a narrow parking lot to Orient Bay Beach, a 2.4-km (1.5-mile) crescent of powdery sand on the Atlantic Ocean. Beach vendors offer a variety of watersports, and the resort provides complimentary use of snorkeling gear. A beachfront restaurant supplies complimentary use of beach chairs to resort guests.

Insider tip: Unable to compete with the allure of the beach and the pool, the resort's rooftop sundeck goes largely unnoticed during the day. But it's a popular destination after dark, when guests take drinks from the bar, climb the steps, lie back in lounge chairs, and gaze at stars.

Café Alamanda - Casual, open-air restaurant and bar, with seating under awning and under thatched-roof poolside gazebo. Breakfast, dinner served daily. Lunch offered during winter season. French and Caribbean cuisine, with dinner choices such as fish soup, onion soup, tuna tartare, escargots, chicken with ginger cream sauce, ribeye steak, salmon with tagliatelle, and scallops with rum-ginger Creole sauce.

We enjoyed a week at the Alamanda in May '06. The staff were friendly, helpful and efficient. The Orient Bay area is one of the most attractive I've seen in the Caribbean. The residents born on the island love their home and sharing it with others. The French are French, but I can usually out-wait them. The rooms are comfortable, the patios and balconies are restful and surprisingly private due to the foliage and the walk to the beach was easy, even with one of us scheduled for hip surgery and the other with a broken toe. The pool is nice, but the beach is the best. Breakfast was so-so but convenient and the evening bar was better than home! We will be back.

The Alamanda Hotel was perfect and our room looked identical to the pictures we viewed on the internet. The staff is friendly and available. The hotel is situated on the beach and there are a number of restaurants and small shops nearby. You never have to leave Orient Bay!

This was probably one of the best hotels I have stayed at in the Caribbean. The people there were the most friendly and helpful that I have come across. The hotel itself is a little hard to find on the island due to no signs that I could see but you cannot miss the place from the road due to it's vibrant color rooves. Once in there the rooms were very room with a huge bathroom with tub/shower that was a great size. Great size balcony to relax on at night and view the pool. Our room was an Oceanview room on the second floor. Unfortunately the view was mostly of palm trees but still was nice enough. I would definately stay here again. The hotel was located about 100 feet from the beach and there were many restaurants within walking distance and plenty of beach bars near by!

The hotel was pretty nice overall and the beacch here is beautiful but several small problems with our stay made it just ok. The shower stall smelled musty and the shower door was broken so it didn't stay closed. The bed was hard and not too comfortable. One of the desk clerks was not very friendly or helpful. There is no nightlife whatsoever in the area.

We would definitely come back to this resort! My husband and I have been to several other resorts in the Caribbean and this was the best yet! There is a little shopping center and square next door for convenience and the kitchenette in the room was handy.

This was our second time staying on the island. The Alamanda Resort is in one of the very best locations. We enjoyed a rental car and checked out many areas of the island, but you could stay right at the Alamanda, walk to several restaurants, markets, enjoy the pool or walk about 100 feet to the most beautiful beach on the island. Staff is wonderful, helpful and friendly, the rooms are large and well maintained - couldn't have asked for anything more.
