Features
What to expect: Families and groups of friends come for the Big Island's sunny weather while enjoying little luxuries and home-like conveniences. Attractions include 15 on-site tennis courts, 36 holes of golf at neighboring Kona Country Club, and great snorkeling at nearby Kahaluu Beach Park (a five-minute drive away).

Amenity highlights: Four medium-sized pools, each joined by a hot tub and surrounded by a sundeck, are scattered among the buildings. In addition, there are two barbecue sites with gas grills under tile-roof shelters. Tennis buffs enjoy access to 15 courts. The resort offers several complimentary activities, including historical and botanical walks, a Wednesday sunset cocktail party, and group power walks.

Insider tip: Holua Resort comprises only half of the condominium community. Four pools and hot tubs are located in the other half, and they are open to Holua Resort guests.

Big rooms - like an apartment (2BR, 2 bath, living room, dining area, full kitchen w/ dinnerware and cookware, patio). Great for families. Excellent service. Would definitely stay here again.

We were impressed with the 2bdrm townhouse. The rooms were on the ground floor that opened up to a grassy lawn. The kitchen and den were upstairs. We liked the large bathrooms and very separate bedrooms. This 2bdrm townhouse could easily sleep 6-8 people. In addition to the 2bdroms w/ King and 2twins for beds, respectively, there were 2 pull out queen sofas. There were tv's in each room and a lot of privacy. I would go back again. It's great for families needing 2 or more bedrooms for sleeping.

I was surprised to have a two story condo. The bedrooms were downstairs and the the living area was upstairs. This information may be important to others staying here.

We had stayed in the Mauna Loa Village before (but not under the Holua umbrella)in a one bedroom condo and had loved it. This time, we went back and stayed at Holua at the Mauna Loa Village in a two bedroom condo. I was absolutely flabberghasted! The one bedroom had been wonderful and brought us back (along with the lovely grounds and multiple pools), but the two bedroom was even better. These are two floor units, with two bedrooms with large ensuit baths on the bottom floor, laundry in a closet, and a stairwell up to the living/dining and kitchen. Each bedroom had sliding glass doors out to a small lanai with table and chairs, as well as a huge picture window looking out onto the grounds in a different direction. Upstairs, there was a half bath and an additional den. This condo was advertised as sleeping 6, but it could have easily slept 8, as there were sleeper sofas in both the living room and the den. Each bedroom, the living room, and the den all had large televisions as well. And of course beautiful picture windows all along the living room/dining room, with sliding glass doors going out onto a balcony with table and chairs. The grounds are lush, and well manicured. The staff were generous, extremely helpful and unobtrusive. There is even a shared computer available for you to check your e-mail, which came in very handy. This is the nicest place I have ever stayed at in Hawaii, including condos in Waikoloa Village.
