    Features
Built of brick and stucco, the James Bay Inn has operated continuously as a hotel except during 1942-45 when, as a war hospital, its most famous guest was Canadian artist and author Emily Carr. Her home is five doors away. The inn’s wide and well-lit lobby provides writing desks and plush armchairs before a brick fireplace. Among original embellishments are a wall vault, beveled plate mirrors, and heavy cornices.

Colonial Café - All three meals are served daily amid high ceilings, window booths, and hardwood floors. Boasting one of the best Denver omelets in Victoria, the restaurant also features blackfish, seafood chowder, and Hunter steak.

JBI Pub - Offering café’s fare for lunch and dinner, the pub features pool, darts, and weekend entertainment.

The best thing about this Hotel is the location. Room was the most stark room I have ever stayed in. The bathroom sink is located in the bedroom area. No hot water for shower, over done room deoderizers to the point you had to leave the window open all night. The bed was so hard you could not sleep well. The food in the resturant was good and the location is close to everything. However It is not worth the hard bed and very plain, stark room. Select a more comfortablr place to enjoy your stay. You will be glad you did.

We greatly enjoyed our 11 day stay. Visitors must be aware though it was built 1911 and has NO ELEVATOR, the lobby is up one floor and the restaurant is down one flight. There are 3 floors of rooms Excellent location. It is a short walk to the Inner Harbor and many attractions, and close to food stores and laundry. It has an on site restaurant with the best seafood chowder in the world. Staff was knowledgable and very helpful

The hotel was very clean and the staff was responsive. The hot water heater left much to be desired. However, the location is excellent and the neighbor was quiet. Very close to the local tourist attractions. I would recommend that you stay away from the pub downstairs as the food was not that great. Otherwise I would recommend this hotel to prospective travelers.

It is an older building and very well kept. Great place for the price. Our morning shower was a challenge as the water would go from one extreme to another with little warning.

This hotel has everything one would want in an economical place to stay in Victoria. The restaurant has excellent food. The location makes walking to anything in the main downtown easy The hotel is in an area of beautiful victorian houses. The building is a 1900's facility with all the updates to make it very comfortable. The ONLY thing negative is the long stairs to the 3rd floor but the rest of the place well and makes up for it.

I just got back from a three night stay at the James Bay Inn. If you are looking for a fancy, modern hotel with all the amenities (in room coffee makers, etc.) then this ain't the place for you. However, if you are looking for a quiet, clean, comfortable historic hotel within three blocks of the Inner Harbor, you will love the James Bay. My room was small but freshly painted and decorated. The bed has to be the most comfortable hotel bed I've ever slept on. In the morning there is free coffee in the Victorian lobby and 24 hour free internet access. My only complaint is with the desk clerk who tried to charge me twice for my reservation, apparently not understand that I'd booked and paid on Expedia. By the way, this hotel is in a residential neighborhood filled with beautiful old Victorian homes and only a block from Beacon Hill Park, both worth a morning's walk.
