The Hotel Villa Casagrande should be an amazing hotel and isn't. It is a beautiful building in gorgeous gardens but is so poorly managed that one wonders if there is indeed a manager. Nobody seems to care about the place - small eg: there should be tables and chairs in the lovely gardens. Beware when booking! Distinction is drawn between Standard rooms and Superior rooms. The Superior rooms, in the main hotel building, are renovated and tasteful but the Standard rooms are very poor - unless you like your room rustic and scruffy. The hotel cleaning staff (we saw no sign of an outside staff) is pleasant, the restaurant staff is great (if run off their feet) but the reception staff is the worst we encountered in Italy. We saw 5 or 6 different faces in our 5 day stay, only one of which resembled helpful. It would have been impossible for the others to care less. Guests are a complete nuisance to them. Perhaps it's because the hotel is a coach stop-over?

WE loved this hotel. The restaurant is terrific and it is close to the most adorable piazza. The piazza is filled with great restaurants too. I highly reccommend that you rent a car because the best parts of Tuscany are not in walking distance. Greve in Chiati and Rada in Chiati is great for winery hopping. Without a car you are pretty much stranded with nothing to do. Do not expect the town to be country side. It is a busy town. If you want a typical Tuscan country view stay in a more rural area like the chiati region itself.

This was a beautiful hotel and surroundings. The two disappointments for our stay was that the room we stayed in was extremely dark with only one small window facing another wall and that the walls were paperthin. They were so thin that you could have carried a conversation with the travellers next door. Apart from that, breakfast was great. I highly recommend the restaurant for dinner as the service was very friendly and food was wonderful. Overall, I would stay here again..just in another room.
