| Great location. Poor service. Western restaurant service was remarkably indifferent to the existence of customers. An impressive display! Desk was marginally competent. Conceirge was good though.

| This hotel has a relatively good location on the north side of the Bund in Shanghai, about a 5 minute walk. The views are absolutely spectacular. The staff was very helpful, and there were a number of good restaurants on site including an excellent Japanese one. One problem we had was that in the evening a horrible, extremely nauseating scent appeared. The hotel staff handled this efficiently and promptly upgraded us to a deluxe four room, two bath suite on the same floor. This room didn't have the smell (which is kind of bad near the water). I would rate this as a three star with four star aspirations. Also, there was no free internet. In China your travel dollar goes extremely far, especially with hotels, and so you may want to consider splurging on a nicer hotel which would be completely unaffordable elsewhere.

| The location of the hotel is superb as it is positioned overlooking the Bund and Pudong, but the level of service is sorely lacking. We splurged for an Executive suite room and found the promised fruit basket, daily drinks and daily paper non-existent; the bathroom shower had NO waterpressure and the 24 hour coffee shop downstairs wouldn't make toast after 10 am because that was a breakfast menu item which ended at 10 am! There are very very few staff with English-speaking skills which can be challenging when asking for recommendations or directions.

| We had a double deluxe river/city view and it was fantastic. Sleeping three, the room was big and very comfortable, a bit 1930's style which we loved. The location was very central and the views breathtaking. Overall a great experience.

| It's a nice recently renovated place, with a great river view (from some rooms). Very close to the Bund and to some very colorful old Shanghai quarters.

| Good hotel. Good service. Great city. Pay the extra money for the river view...it is worth it. If you pay for the Executive Floor, you need to ask for the give me's. If you do, they will appear. Classic 1930's building that has been updated. Would return.

| We experienced the hotel staff as extremely friendly and helpful. Our room/suite was clean and comfortable. Great views over the city. The hotel's central location is a plus, walking distance to great many of the city's main attractions and shopping areas.

| This hotel is located at the end of the Bund. To get to Nanjing Road it is a 10 minute walk. The hotel rooms have been renovated. I used the hotel in April and the owner does not turn on the air cons in the room. It was not hot and you can open your windows for a nice breeze. Easy to get taxi's. Hotel resturant workers to do not speak good English but has some nice menu items. Hotel's breakfast is horrible and not up to Western standards. I would stay in this hotel again for it's location. Make sure you show taxi drivers a card of the hotel since it is not a famous hotel in the city.

| Having stayed in a number of hotels over the years in Shanghai, I reccently (Feb 2005) stayed at the fabled and historic Broadway Mansions Hotel (formely Shanghai Mansions Hotel). The history oozes in this hotel as you enter the lobby... unfortunately, that's where it stops. If you are in town for one or two nights, the guest rooms are tolerable, as the prime location of the hotel is its best feature (that and the UBC Coffee Shop in the hotel lobby). But if you are looking for a clean, well run establishment, look elsewhere. "Tired" would be a good description for this property... it is well overdue for a renovation and an upgrade in staff quality. Although very pleasant, the staff are distant and a bit unpolished. The price of the hotel is commensurate with what you will get... cheap... not inexpensive... cheap.I hope the hotel gets the renovation adn upgrade it deserves as it has plenty of potential to be a Grand Hotel of a byegone era.... but right now, its just byegone.
