| My stay in this hotel for six nights with my daughter came during New York's heat spell. Temperature's were over 100 degrees for two days and the air conditioning in our room was inadequate to handle it. It cooled down the last three days but the AC output was still not adequate for the room we were in. No problems with access to bathrooms in the hall. You have to remember to put the 'change linen' sogn out or they don't check your room. The accomodations were good for our needs except the AC. Not a bad place to stay and centrally located near Union Square.

| The not-so-good news: small rooms, facilities down the hall, a pre-occupied lobby staff. But the good news is: it doesn't matter. I'm simply not aware of a comparably priced hotel in Manhattan for a room for one. It's 5 1/2 very short blocks to the Union Square subway--a lovely 10 minute walk along the green square. I've never had to wait to wash or use the toilet (there's 4 per floor and they're the most looked-after rooms in the place--very clean). Lots of nice old wood in the public spaces. A sort of shabby chic. Popular with Europeans. How much time were you planning on spending in the room anyway? It's New York out there!

| Hotel 17 is a small hotel with shared bathrooms. It is a great value and the shared bathrooms were not a problem. It is very clean and ideally located with a great little park right across the street. Although it was 95 the day we checked in, the AC worked fine and the room was comfortable. There was a problem at 2:00 a.m. with one of the shared baths - there were two in our hall serving 6 or 7 rooms - but I called down to the front desk and when I checked it early the next morning, it was working fine. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a value hotel.

| The location of the hotel was great. It was three blocks away from the subway. It was a short distance away from Union Square and Chinatown. The room and bathroom were clean. I would stay here again for its reasonable rates.

| All of the previous reviews I read were accurate so I won't repeat. I liked the fact that the hotel was located in a neighborhood rather than a "tourist destination". It was clean, safe and comfortable enough for the amount of time I actually spent in the room.

| The basic gist of this place is that you're not paying too much so don't expect too much. That said it is completely perfect if you just need a comfortable room to lay your head whilst visiting the city. The rooms are clean and linen changed everyday, and although it's shared bathrooms you barely have to wait long and they're always clean and tidy. If you just need somewhere to stay while you explore the city through the day this is the best option I hae found other than a dingy hostel!

| Hotel 17 was as advertised, a small cheap room with the bathroom down the hall. All the amenities were completely satisfactory, except that the air conditioning was just too weak to cool a narrow room with 15 foot ceiling. If you plan to be in hot, humid, dirty NYC in the summer, I'd suggest you look elsewhere. In the spring and fall, it's a nice quiet place.
