Santana Row is one of the nicest neighborhoods I have ever visited. It was recently built but to sit under the huge oaks and watch the world go by was paradise. Great restaurants right next door. (Try the Pizzeria and Left Bank for a great sidewalk cafe experience.) Shopping was too high priced but it felt like we were living on Rodeo Drive. It's fun just to walk around what feel like the streets of Paris. We sat in both of the plazas for hours. What a rich experience. Rooms were elegant but oddly European. Towels in a large wooden bowl rather than on a towel bar. Only having a few small drawers and small closet felt a little too much like Europe. The patio and pool area were gorgeous. The Winchester Mansion was a hoot and right across the street. Just 45 minutes from Santa Cruz and 90 minutes from Monterey. There is no place like it in San Jose. I would go back and bring my teens. I would highly recommend a trip to Santana Row.

We just stayed at Hotel Valencia for a week over the Christmas holidays. The coolest things about this hotel are the incredible continental breakfast, the beautiful courtyard with its water features and mediterranean decor, the cold water available to all guests at the entrance to the hotel, and the comfy bed. It's very dark, however, and the pictures on expedia do not show how dark, depressing, and modern the hotel is. all the rooms are very masculine, the elevators are black and dark, and the entrance looks like a dark dungeon in a castle. The service staff was wonderful.

The hotel is in a newly rebuilt area of San Jose. Lots of expensive shops, nice restaurants, and a nice mall nearby. The weekend and evening crowds are young and attractive. Not really a place for children. Within driving distance to HP Pavillion for concerts and Sharks games. Interior is very modern and dark. A nice surprise was a buffet light breakfast which was included. Parking is an entire block away and valet parking can get expensive.

Everything was great with one exception; I had a room with a balcony overlooking the court yard and every evening the thumping / head-bangers music from the bar was very annoying. The next time I will ask for a room away from this unfortunate nuisance.
