Features
What to expect: Soaring ceilings, graceful arched windows, and ornate plaster moldings greet business and leisure guests in the lobby of this 1870s neoclassic building that was once a bank. Located behind the front desk, a bar and lounge with a fireplace add a contemporary feeling with modern black-and-white furniture and slate floors. Unusual flower arrangements and brilliant green bamboo accents provide splashes of color.
Amenity highlights: A complimentary expanded breakfast is offered every morning; guests are also offered complimentary wine and cheese in the evenings. Other amenities include a rooftop terrace overlooking Notre Dame Basilica and the square. Also, on the fifth floor, the fitness center has been refurbished (2005) with new equipment. Complimentary shuttle service is offered to downtown destinations.
Insider tip: Across from the hotel is Place d’Armes square with its statue, fountain, flower stall, and shady chestnut trees—a perfect place for visitors to enjoy a view of Notre Dame Basilica. Caleches (horse-drawn carriages) line one side of the square, offering leisurely tours of Old Montréal with a driver/guide.
A complimentary expanded Continental breakfast is provided each morning. Aix - Situated on the lower level, this sophisticated restaurant with its cream leather banquettes and dark wood specializes in cuisine du terroir with ingredients such as lamb, rabbit, oysters, bison, and seafood from Québec and the Atlantic provinces. Guests take their complimentary Continental breakfasts here. Open for lunch and dinner.

| Hotel Place D'Armes was elegant and hip. You will enjoy the wonderful rooms or the younger crowd at the bar or restraurant. We ate the restaurant one night and had a great night but it was a little pricey compared to similar meals in the US. The terrace food was okay, but the view at sundown was worth it. Our room was spacious with a king size bed and a bathroom with a huge jaccuzzi bathtub. The concierge and hotel staff was informative and helpful. The location is excellent, about 100 yards for the Notre Dame Cathedral. They arranged for shuttles to the bus stations and the tour buses. The two computers that were available had fast internet connections. The wine and cheese was a nice touch and the breakfast was a perfect way to start off the morning. The spa was accommodating and had a variety of options. The gym had plenty of weight machines and work-out machines to please any type of person. This is one of the nicer hotels I have ever stayed in.

| This is an excellent hotel. But beware: My own room was next to a very squeeky door used by the hotel staff. Not pleasant at 6 in the morning. Also, the movie service on the TV was not functioning. And the room was not well lit (rather depressing). Still, the (free) continental breakfast was great, the rooms are large and clean, and the location on the edge of the old city can't be beat -- a much superior experience compared to Montreal's monstrous hotels in the downtown area, further from the old city.

| Great Location. Walked everywhere, or took a subway. We enjoyed the restaurant in the hotel. Staff was very friendly, and met our needs. Found the room to be quite nice, but a bit cramped for the money. We wanted a European type hotel, and would recommend this one.

| This was a wonderful old hotel renovated with style and flair. The breakfast buffet (included) and wine and cheese evening offerings were both very good and added to the experience. The lack of a high quality concierge was the only drawback - but the desk staff was very friendly and helpful. We would definately return.

| I stayed 6 wonderful nights here. The room was spectacular, the bathroom equally as nice and the staff was excellent. The breakfast was hardy and plentiful as well. The only drawback was the street noise, but that's tolerable.
