Features
What to expect: Once owned by mobster Bugsy Siegal, El Cortez's original building dates from the 1940s. The hotel maintains an old-fashioned Las Vegas ambience, featuring oversized guestrooms and suites, friendly hospitality, bargain dining, and 24-hour gaming action. There are even separate barber and beauty shops.
Amenity highlights: The casino offers extended multi-race keno that allows participants to play up to 1,000 consecutive games with one ticket. Complimentary transportation is offered to the airport (but not from the airport) from early morning to mid-afternoon, daily except Saturday.
Careful Kitty's Café - Open 24 hours. Two-person semi-circular booths in dark-blue leatherette. Breakfast items, sandwiches, burgers, steaks, seafood, daily low-priced specials such as Italian meatloaf, chicken-fried steak. Roberta's - Blonde-wood booths and banquettes. Prime rib, steaks, seafood, chicken. Two-for-one special Monday-Thursday. Charlotte's Ice Cream Shop - Open 24 hours. Sandwiches, burgers, hot dogs, pizza, and pastries. Morning Express - Breakfast buffet Saturdays and Sundays..
The hotel's 40,000-square-foot casino offers blackjack, craps, roulette, mini baccarat, three-card poker, slots, video poker, live keno, and a race-and-sports book. Player’s club membership is free, with play earning comps and other rewards. Two blocks away, under a canopy of 2.1 million lights and employing a 540,000-watt sound system, a four-block pedestrians-only stretch of downtown Las Vegas called Fremont Street Experience presents periodic sound-and-light shows from dusk to midnight. Other day-and-night entertainment on the street includes live music, classic-car displays, and holiday festivals.

| Our room was in the Tower on the second floor and was very spacious for 4 adults. We were quite impressed with the hotel for the money. The location was great! You walk right outside the casino to Fremont which we preferred over the strip. The cover over Fremont kept the heat off during the day whereas on the strip you were miserable! The casinos on Fremont were great for us... prefer not to walk 2 hours in one casino like on the strip. We spent most of our time in the Casino at El Cortez, but we only play the nickel slots so not sure how the tables were.

| Very nice older hotel! Gives you a feel for what it was like in the 40's and 50's. Great breakfast buffet, cafe and dining room, friendly helpful staff. Very clean and well maintained facilities.

| I stayed here for 8 nights in february, 2006. The room was old but very clean. All the staff was polite ,& very helpful. Everything was paid prior to arrival and what I found to be so very petty was that I was placed in the old wing, where there was no elevator and I had to climb two flights to get to my room for 8 nights. Had the modern tower portion of the hotel with "elevators " been booked I could understand it, but there were plenty of empty rooms. For the money, everything was great, except for the manipulative by the front desk to get mre money out of me for a modern room upon arrival...

| My sister and I stayed at the EL Cortez in November. We had A great time. Access to every thing is easy. We stayed in the Tower Rooms. The only problem we had was getting a waitress for drinks when we were gambling and at Kitys cafe the food was not very good, but down town you have alot of places to eat in walking distance.

| Glad we only had to stay there for 1 nite in May05. Parking is far away from rooms. Had to walk through a suffocatingly smoky room with a maze of slot machines to find elevator and stairs. Then we found out unfortunately we got the east(or west?) side wing which had NO ELEVATOR(the other wing has elevator). We had to walk through another maze of tables to find the stair to our room and lift our luggage to the 3rd floor! Then we found out we booked 2-double but got 1 king. Room itself is ok except a hint of smoke maybe from the ventilation system. Mini-fridge is free upon request but they were out of fridge. Breakfast was the only good thing.

| You have to remember that the El Cortez is an old hotel, and not as trendy as those on the strip. Our room was very clean and looked like something out of a movie from the 1940s. The casino is huge and has some of the loosest slots in Vegas. It's only two blocks from the beautiful Fremont Street Experience which is a must see. The downtown area is run down, but we had no problems. Our car was safe in the garage because of the 24 hour security patrols. The staff was friendly, the food was good, but the wireless internet service in the lobby is not free as I was led to believe in the description. I would definitely stay again.
