    Features
This hotel is available to "Adults Only," 18 years and older, May 1st thru May 26th and September 1st thru Sep 30, 2005.

What to expect: Opened in 1947, this 66-acre coastal resort was fully renovated in 2002. Isolated on the eastern side of Maui's Haleakala mountain, it's accessed by a 3-hour drive on a winding, two-lane coast highway, with one-lane bridges over waterfalls. The hotel is set in a working ranch, and horses graze on a bluff overlooking Hana Bay. Celebrating couples, eco-adventurers, and vacationing businesspeople come for Hawaiian history, culture, and entertainment, and the many on-site recreational and spa services.

Amenity highlights: The hotel lends gear for snorkeling, bicycling, fishing, and other sports. Other complimentary activities include daily yoga and aqua-aerobics; lei making, ukulele, hula, or pandanus weaving classes; and guided garden walks. Oceanfront horseback trail rides and treatments in the 9-room spa are available for a surcharge.

Insider tip: By starting the day on the remote southeast coast, hotel guests can beat west-coast tourist traffic to attractions such as Blue Pool; Pi'ilanihale Heiau; Wai'anapanapa State Park; and nearby white-, black-, and red-sand beaches. Hana and surrounding areas can be seen from a mountaintop memorial to Hana Ranch founder Paul Fagan; the front desk has keys.

Main dining room - Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, Hotel Hana Maui offers the only fine dining in Hana, serving seasonal Pacific, Asian, and American cuisine, and featuring local seafood and produce. Dress is resort casual. Blue-and-green wave-shaped banners are suspended from the ceiling in this airy dining room with ceiling fans and French doors opening onto a lanai. A Friday-night dinner show includes performances by Hawaiian musicians and dancers.

Paniolo Lounge - Locals join hotel guests in this casual open-air lounge adjacent to the hotel lobby. Local Hawaiian musicians and dancers perform Wednesday through Sunday. Seating is available indoors or on the small lanai. The menu includes light fare such as sushi rolls and pupus (Hawaiian appetizers).

Hana Ranch Restaurant - This casual coffee shop serves breakfast and a buffet lunch daily, and dinner on Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday. Seating is split between an air-conditioned dining room and a shaded lanai. The restaurant also has a separate snacks-to-go window open daily for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Poolside snack bar - During the day, guests in swimwear stop here for snacks and drinks.

Catering - A catered barbecue luncheon is given daily on Hamoa Beach, reached by complimentary shuttle from the hotel. Box lunches can also be ordered for take-away.

I, my wife and two year old daugther spent three nights here at the end of June 2006. We were fortunate to be upgraded from a Garden View room to a Sea Cottage ocean front room. The place is lush with coconut trees, green foliage, and flowers. It was just what one would envision for a tropical island. The room was large and had an expansive view of the shore from the spacious deck and featured a refrigerator stocked with sodas and water, a coffee maker with organic specialty coffees, bar sink, robes, and high end soaps, bath salt, shampoo etc. The hotel restocked not only the toiletries but also the sodas and water without charge. The place is far different than the tourist zones of Wailea or Kaanapali. The lack of air conditioning was not a problem. The room was comfortable with the ocean breeze and ceiling fans. To get there one must drive the Hana Highway. It is about a 30 mile drive from the Kahului Airport. The drive is tedious because the road is narrow and you must be constantly vigilent for oncoming traffic. Allow yourself 2-3 hours for the drive. The hotel, however, is worth the drive.

Me and my wife absolutely loved this Hotel. Away from the crowded part of Maui, the setting is perfect for those who want to get away from it all. We were recieved like royalty by hospital staff who were very pleasant and cooperative. The SPA is amazing, the pool is relaxing and they give you planned activities to do every day. Ride to Hotel is about 3 hrs from the main airport and is really really amazing. However the road is very curvy and if you are prone to motion sickness, better use an antiemetic before taking the drive. The hotel's cook is amazing and the food is magnificent, though expensive. There are not too many hoteling options available in Hana, so better be prepared for that.We stay in one of the ocean front cottages with a spa. The only complaint that we had was that the room seemed little under equipped for the price. There is no microwave and thats a big let down especially as there are not too many dinning out options. The cottages can do with a little face lifting as well. However the hotel is not crowded and the atmosphere is serene and tranquil. EEnjoyed romantic walks, sunrises and sunsets and the green landscape. One of the most romantic places to be. Cannot wait to go back.

great place to see hana but you should book for at least three days if you really want to take the urban edge off. chill a bit, go to the 400 foot water fall. its well worth the hike through the bamboo forest and up through the rain forest. If the road around is dry, go all the way. its worth it.

We stayed for 8 days in late Nov '05 and found it is not quite the level of quality and service we expected for its ratings and price. Location and amenities are terrific but the Sea Ranch Cottages are showing some signs of wear inside and the constant ravages of a tropical climate outside which we didn't expect for a hotel of this class. Housekeeping service was uneven and often happened very late in the day. We even had to call housekeeping one evening near 6pm because our room was not made up while we had been out most all the day. Hotel restaurant is great for breakfast, but disappointing and expensive for dinner. Overall, still a very nice place, however there are other hotels/locations in this class that deliver more value.

This hotel is lovely...so serene. There is tons to do, so drive the Hana Highway and then just stay in Hana: beaches, hiking, horseback riding, you name it. The spa is beautiful; the morning yoga classes were excellent. The restaurant is pricey, so plan on having some dinners in the bar, where you're entertained by hotel staff. GREAT breakfasts.
