Kauai Sands Hotel Amenities
This 200-room hotel is comprised of four two-story white-stucco buildings with wood trim painted black. Staircases, not elevators, provide access to upper floors. In addition to the two pools and sundecks for relaxation, there's a half-mile walk on the beachfront. Through Waipouli Beach is considered unsafe for all but strong swimmers and surfers, it is a lovely walking beach, with perfect sunrise views and whale-watching opportunities during the humpback winter migration.

The airy lobby includes a seating area for socializing, a sundries shop, and an activity desk that arranges luaus, excursions up the nearby Wailua River, helicopter sightseeing trips to North Kauai's spectacular Napali Coast, and all other activities available on the entire island.

Recreation
Wailua Municipal Golf Course is a 10-minute drive south of Kauai Sands Hotel. The Wailua River, 5 minutes south, is the longest navigable river in Hawaii, and boat and kayak trips up the river are popular. On Kauai, recreational opportunities abound, including those listed below.

Features
What to expect: Situated in a tranquil spot with sweeping ocean views, the Kauai Sands Hotel appeals to budget vacationers who are content with no-frills lodging. A complimentary welcome breakfast is served at the Aldon Restaurant.

Amenity highlights: A spacious flagstone sundeck surrounds the main pool, and the entire complex is set on an expansive lawn graced by tall coconut trees. The blue Pacific creates the perfect backdrop. Flanked by fragrant plumeria trees in a quiet courtyard, the second pool offers more privacy.

Insider tip: The Royal Coconut Coast is an 8-mile strip of sandy beaches, unsurpassed ocean views, and low-key activity. Long ago, the Wailua River, fed by rainfall on Mount Waialeale, the wettest spot on earth, provided abundant water for ancient Hawaiians to cultivate crops in this area. As a result, the coast abounds in archaeological sites worth visiting.

A complimentary welcome breakfast is served at the Aldon Restaurant.

Al & Don's Restaurant - This comfortable restaurant features wood paneling, a marlin mounted on the wall, and louvered windows facing the ocean a few yards away. Breakfast and dinner is served. In the morning, the menu features island fare like banana-macadamia pancakes. In the evening, the restaurant offers seafood, steaks, and tropical drinks.

Will definitely stay here again. The staff was courteous and friendly. Room was cleaned on a daily basis. Hotel is conviently close to a shopping center, which is a plus if you need souvenirs.

If you are looking for a budget hotel this is the one. Nothing fancy but if you just need a clean bed and shower and are out most of the day go for this one. The price is still not cheap for what you get but nothing is cheap on this island. One would expect coffee & tea facilities and a microwave at this rate. It was noticed that noise travels easy around the balconies and the U shape of the buildings keeps the noise inside the yard. There are people at night who are loud (also long term stays/workers?) and don't care about others.

This hotel is not a plush 5 star resort, however if you are looking for hotel accomodations that are clean and convenient with friendly and helpful staff, this is the place. The hotel is situated in a prime location right on the beach central to must see places on the North and South shores. The beach is great for body surfing, boogieboarding and surfing. The hotel is also situated right next to the Coconut Marketplace which is loaded with shops, restaurants, bars, jewelry stores and even a movie theater. Eggberts in the Coconut Market Place has the best ever banana macadamia nut pancakes and the coconut syrup is a must. There is a restaurant a few miles north called Polynesia Cafe that just opened 1 week earlier and we found the food excellent, the owner a gracious host and the bartender making killer pina coladas. We are already planning our trip to Kauai next year and definately plan on staying at the Kauai Sands.

The hotel was okay for the price. Good location, beach access, nice pool and garden. The room is a bit dated. The plumbing made a horrible whining noise when certain rooms were in use. They said in the add that they had recently renovated, but I didn't see it. The bed was decent, the T.V. only had basic cable available and no data access. I wasn't able to try the food at the the restaurant off the lobby because, I ended up sitting at my table for 20 minutes without ANY service before I decided to leave. other than that, It was okay for the price.

kauai sands hotel is located in an ideal area where there is a cinnema and a great view of the sleeping giant as you stroll to the coconut market place where the cinnema is located and other fine gift shops and good eating places. i recommend going to tradewinds bar where the atmosphere is so friendly and of course the tradewinds that blow thru out the establishment. kauai sands hotel has a great view of the blue pacific ocean while relaxing at the dining room and a wonderful pool to relax in. the employees are wonderful people. i would definitely go back to kauai sands hotel even if i need to stay there for a night or even a week. all in all, kauai is no ka oi...the best. but of course, i am a local born kauaian so maybe my views of the hotel don't really count but i still praise the hotel and their staff.

Close to a few convenient -but not quality- shops, restaurants and a bar, and right in the middle of east-coast Kapaa which is a good starting point for your northbound or southbound excursions. But here is where the positive comments end for this property in our opinion and standards. The grounds are rather well maintained and the (small) pools are clean, but despite the friendliness of the stuff the room was never thoroughly cleaned, every day something else was missing or was still as dirty as we left it. Cockroaches that circulate during nighttime in the rooms and bathrooms are another displeasing proof of this. Poorly maintained bathrooms, noisy airconditions and fridges also show the age of the place and the lack of some care. The price is reasonable but we would have hapily spend more for better service and cleanliness for the vacation. Even if you don't stay long in the room it is better at the end of the day to arrive in a spotless clean room than to find that it has not been thoroughly cleaned, toilet paper has not been replaced, etc. All in all if you can not find anything else at all for that budget it can be a just acceptable choice but nothing memorable. It would have been really a bargain and truly recomended place to stay if they would renovate it and train/manage the housekeeping personel to be more thorough and consistent with their jobs.

First and strongest impression is that the hotel is a flashback to a motel of 40 years ago. The two-floor buildings surrounding two pools replicate a by-gone era. Unfortunately the expansive by today's standards layout does not do justice to the beach-front property it sits on. The large lobby and restaraunt block what whould have otherwise been breathtaking views. We chose their premium room and had an excellent view of the pool. On the positive side, the property is spotless and meticulously maintained. The buildings are widely separated with lawns as smooth and manicured as a putting green. Barely a single stone is or blade of grass is out of place. The property could not be cleaner. Facing the Kauai eastern shore the view is specacular, however swimming would be hazardous except on the calmest days. Located very close to the Coconut Marketplace. Excellent value for the price, especially so for its location on Kauai, Hawaii.

This hotel is a stroll back in time. It is brings back the feel of yesteryear. The in room conviences were minimmal. There was a fridge in the room. There is access to a wonderful beach and the hotel staff was very pleasant and accomodating. If you are not looking to spend you vacation in a luxury room and choose to be adventageous and out and about, this is the perfect hotel. The hotel is centrally located and you can make it to either end of the island within 20-30 minutes depending on traffic.
