Features
What to expect: This low-key, apartment-style lodging is centrally located for touring the Hollywood sights. The hotel attracts both leisure and business travelers—it's not the fanciest address in town, but provides an excellent base for tourists or those hoping to make it big in show business (as it has for decades).

Amenity highlights: Murals, murals, everywhere! Painted by a former employee, these vivid wall paintings depict a vast range of scenes and characters, such as Marilyn Monroe, Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz, and many more. A large, tiled swimming pool is available in the central courtyard.

Insider tip: There may not be a hipper place in all of Hollywood than the 101 Coffee Shop just off this hotel’s lobby. Decked out in classic coffee shop décor and open until 3 AM, this is a hot spot for local celebrities, musicians, writers, and those waiting to be “discovered.” The menu ranges from ethnic eats to American favorites, and cocktails are also served.

101 Coffee Shop: All meals are served in this classic coffee shop with rock walls; large, street-side windows; padded booths; and counter seating. Open 7 AM to 3 AM.

I found this hotel to be charming and comfortable. The front desk staff were VERY pleasant and helpful. The pool was nicely maintained, with comfy lounge chairs and rockers. The room was large with a fridge, microwave and lots of mirrors. The hotel is old, but that added to it's charm. My only two (minor) complaints....the elevator was VERY rickety and didn't work for a short period of time, and the shower drain was not as clean as it should be. However, the bathroom was AWESOME...had a large shower, double sink, granite and full lenth mirror. Free parking was a HUGE plus. There's also a liquor store within a block for late night snacks and bottled water. Not a good area for women to walk at night alone. I felt pretty safe with my husband. The restaurant in the hotel is WONDERFUL.

The room was nice, especially the bathroom, but the hallways and the hotel looks old. The parking area is pretty small. The elevator was annoying and scary though, the door closes on you sometimes and at other times it does not close at all. If you don't mind staying in a comfortable and nice room in a old looking hotel than I guess it is okay.

The hotel is old, but well maintained. The pool was great. The location was great for us since we were going to Univeral Studios, only a few minutes away.

The first impression that the hotel gives is poor. The lobby is small and cramped, wit the look of a hotel that has seen better days. However, the desk staff is very friendly, jumps at the chance to give directions and local advice, and the housekeeping staff keeps the rooms looking good. Comfortable bed. Free wireless and wired internet. Room was spacious. This is a nice place to have for family trips. It is walking distance to Hollywood boulevard if you are young to middleaged. Elderly would be better served by a hotel in downtown Hollywood, like the Renaissance. I would not meet business clients here. There is a little downstairs restaurant called the 101. It is a classic diner with counter service and tables. Good breakfasts every day, though the coffee is weak. There is a small pool in the second tower at the hotel for quick dips and splashing about, but not laps.

Removed bathroom vanities were in the stairwells. Very unsightly view from the room, view blocked by wall of building next door, looked over driveway entrance and corridor roof that had old tools and rusted wiring laying there. The room was quite warm even though it was only 75-80 degrees outside, possibly because we were over the kitchen of the downstairs cafe. The room windows did not open, had to run the window air conditioner all day and night. Water was leaking from overhead pipes in the parking garage. Parking garage was small and very tight. The best part of the room was the bathroom, remodeled and quite large.

Hotel not located in a very nice neighborhood. Construction and noise going on in adjacent room at all hours of the night. Entryway and hallways so dirty it was disgusting and an embarrassment. The room was clean. The service was helpful and pleasant. The pool (although too cold to swim at the time) was very clean appearing. The hotel is very old and outdated. Does not look or feel like a Best Western chain-definitely did not meet standards of other Best Westerns I have stayed at.

Clean and friendly, although it leaves a bit to be desired in terms of maintenance. Great locations, parking garage, nice small swimming pool and an overall great place to stay.

The hotel was great, but not if you're on foot, as taxis are expensive and buses rare and the different locations are very spread out with not much to hold the interest between them - but I thought that this was more a complaint about LA itself and not the hotel who actually went out of their way to call me a town car. epxlain the service, and then retrieve me from the hotel cafe where i had gone to wait.

Although the hotel was clean and the location was close to local attractions the hotel is really showing it's age and really needs renovating. To it's credit the service was nice and prompt.
