Features
What to expect: The lobby of this 24-story hotel has Murano glass chandeliers, marble columns, plasma-screen TVs, a water wall, bamboo plants, and dark-wood paneling. Business travelers stay for events at the George R. Brown Convention Center, which is connected to the hotel by sky bridge. Sports fans converge for hockey and basketball at the Toyota Arena, which also hosts concerts, across the street.
Amenity highlights: Well-equipped conference, meeting, and ballroom spaces within the hotel can accommodate small groups or giant trade shows. The 23rd and 24th floors offer panoramic city views from a spa, health club, and indoor swimming pool with outdoor terrace. Spencer’s Steaks and Chops features live piano jazz in the lounge as well as a chef’s table with a kitchen view, or private dining “wine rooms” for special events.
Insider tip: An extensive collection of Texas artwork is displayed throughout the building. One granite sculpture in the lobby resembles a sailboat, echoing the nautical look of the convention center connected to the hotel by sky bridge. Too heavy for the floor in its intended location, it was moved directly in front of one of the doors entering the lobby.
