    Residenza Cannaregio Amenities
A spacious lobby with leatherette seating, contemporary art, and original pale-brick accents contains a multi-colored marble entry surrounded by a pale-marble floor. The hotel includes its own water-taxi landing. The staff speaks English.

    Recreation
The Lido of Venice, the slender, 11.5-km (7.25-mile-long) island facing the Adriatic Sea that lies a 30-minute waterbus ride from the hotel, is the city's playground, especially in summer. Year-round, visitors rent bicycles to explore the island, play golf, or take horseback rides. Aside from fishing in the canals, the central city offers nothing in the way of recreational opportunities. Deep-sea fishing is available in the Adriatic Sea.

The recreational activities listed below are available either on site or near the hotel; fees may apply.

    Features
What to expect: Constructed as a monastery in the 17th century and used as a gondola workshop in the 19th century, the building contains features from the original as a backdrop to the hotel's contemporary design. Guests seeking an "authentic" Venice neighborhood away from visitors return to the hotel for peaceful rest.

Amenity highlights: Against soft background music, an interior garden courtyard provides a tranquil spot for reading and conversation. Umbrella tables are set in the courtyard for warm-weather dining. Inside, the restaurant offers a contemporary/rustic ambience of dark-blue leatherette banquettes and bright art set against a wood-beamed ceiling and pale brick walls. The decor theme extends to a bar containing a glass-roofed interior courtyard.

Insider tip: From this district of historical Venice, the island of Murano is a 15-minute waterbus ride away. Visitors can tour Murano's famous glass-making shops and see examples of glass artistry from the 15th century to the present displayed at the Museum of Glass.

A complimentary buffet breakfast is provided each morning in Al Piron restaurant.

Al Piron - Original, 17th-century, wood-beamed ceiling and original brick walls. Contemporary art. Dark-blue leatherette banquettes and orange chairs. Terrace seating at umbrella tables in warm weather. Venetian/international menu. Lunch, dinner served March-October. Dinner only served November-February.

Al Grappolo - Three-section bar/lounge comprising bar room, intimate low-ceiled lounge, and narrow glass-roofed courtyard with potted plants. Original 17th-century wood-beamed ceiling and original brick walls. Open from morning to midnight for sandwiches, salads, espresso, cocktails.

If you are like us, who had quite some lugguges, you will have to walk a long time to get to the hotel. The hotel is at a remote jewish part of Venice. We did not want to take the water taxi because it was a 50 euro for a 15 minute ride... The hotel is roomy, modern and has a beautiful atrium. If you don't smoke, be sure to ask for rooms on upper floors, because people smoke in the courtyard on the first floor, and the smoke will get into your room.

It would be hard to say anything bad about this hotel. awesome: off the tourist path, great service, great rooms, quiet. This hotel is my choice each time I travel to Venice.

The service was excellent - I broke my foot while on this trip and the hotel provided me not only with ice and sympathy, but also changed our room to one without stairs and booked a Murano excursion for us which included free roundtrip taxi rides. The restaurant was also excellent -- allowing us to "order off the menu" to meet our dietary requirements and let us occupy a table from 7pm til closing with no hassles!

This hotel looks very unimpressive from the outside, but the inside is very new and the styling is very modern. We had the deluxe garden view room. The bed was in a loft and the downstairs had a couch and tv. It was more crammed than we were expecting but otherwise it was clean and interesting. There was a separate ac control for the upstairs which was nice. The garden is as nice as in the pictures. The breakfast was good and is served in their restuarant. The front desk staff was very helpful and courteous. My only complaint is that it is a little out of the way. From the train station we took a waterbus, number 52, which is 5 euro. You have to get off at St. Alvise stop and walk a short distance then cross one bride to get to it. Otherwise there is the water taxi. To go back to the train station you take waterbus 51. The area is quiet and away from the hustle and bustle. To get to the main tourist street you need to walk a little. To get to the main square is quite a walk. Besides being a bit out of the way, I would recommend this hotel.

This hotel is away from the noisy section. You shop, visit then retire to a quiet, peaceful atmosphere. The breakfast in the garden was perfect. There are great restaurants right around there and the pizzas are much better and different from Rome and Florence. Everyone was very helpful and pleasant. I plan to visit in the next few years and my choice would be this hotel.

This is a very nice hotel in a quiet part of town. Don't try to walk to or from the train station - it's a long way with luggage - take the water bus to the stop recommended in the directions.

A bit off the beaten path. Quiet, comfy, spacious rooms; larger than a typical Venice hotel room. Helpful staff. Modern decor contrasts with classic architecture. Breakfast is first-rate. Not convenient to vaporetto if you have much luggage. 10 minute walk to main thouroughfares, 15 mins to Grand Canal.

The Residenza Cannaregio is an excellent hotel in a very quiet, residential area in the north of Venice. The hotel service is outstanding. All of the desk employees speak excellent English and are very helpful. The rooms are not huge but are very functional, modern, comfortable and clean. The hotel is within walking distance of two vaporetto stops, one on the Grand Canal. We were able to take a vaporetto from the airport to the San Avise stop and walk to the hotel with our luggage. We travelled with our 11 year old daughter and were very comfortable in the room. She loved having the downstairs to herself in the room. If you enjoy getting off of the beaten path and soaking in some of the local culture, you'll love this hotel. Next time we are in Venice, we'll stay here again.

The hotel is a bit out of the way, relative to tourist Venice. It's in a very well maintained, old building, though, and is worth the time it takes to get to and from the normal destinations.
