| I very much enjoyed my stay here. The people were very helpful when needed. My only complaint is that the shower was rather small.

| Cortona is an amazing southern Tuscan hill town with incredible views. Once in the walled city and at the top of a steep hill is the Hotel San Michele, a Renaissance palazzo near the central piazza. The hotel is utterly charming and comfortable, the staff are very accomodating, and the breakfasts were excellent. Highly recommended. Can't wait to go back.

| Cortona is absolutely great, better then I expected. Gorgeous views from the top of the hill, always sunny, great atmosphere, very clean (unlike Rome, which was very dirty and poor.) San Michele is a nice place to stay, it's right near the main plaza, good base location for exploring the town. Italian hotels below 4 stars can not be compared to similar american hotels or motels, saimply because americans are spoiled with comfort and they expect good service. Italians are basically very easy going people so the hotels feels like an empty quite house most of the time. The building itself is very pretty on the inside, it's very old but tastefully decorated. The breakfast was very good, fruits, juices, very good coffee, sandwiches, ham, cheese, croissantes, jams, nutella, cereals, milk, eggs, omelette. The fruits in Italy are absolutely great, can not find such juicy ripe pears or mangos in the US. Overall, nice hotel, but by itself it is not an attraction. Cortona was very impressive. A lot of american and british and german tourists. No japanese tourists, they prefer to go to big cities like Milan and Florence. (On the final note, go to Rome ONLY if youw ant to see ancient Rome, otherwise it's not worth it.)Gelato is great, restaurants are way overpriced, order only pasta dishes, never order meat dishes in Italy, italians can not cook meat, at least those who can all moved to the US long time ago.

| We took a side trip from Rome to Cortona and spent just one night in the Hotel San Michele. I was wary of what to expect for the price we were paying-- inexpensive for nice digs in Italy. But we were delightfully surprised. While not lush, it was charming and very well appointed. Service was friendly and professional. The breakfast buffet, included, was ample, and eggs were cooked on request. We were travelling with 2 other couples, and I should mention that there was quite a difference among the "standard rooms". We all paid the same rate for non-smoking Kings. Our room was huge, with 14' ceilings, dramatic decor, and a large bathroom (puny shower). One of our friends' rooms, on the other hand, was quite small, and in fact, the toilet was in a separate CLOSET, with the bidet, sink and shower in the bathroom! But hey, we were in Italy, having a great time, and that only gave us something to chuckle about. I would definitely recommend this hotel.
