| It was a great hotel 20 years ago. The building is really good, and the location is great (1 block from Paulista Ave.). All of this makes a great cost vs. benefits ratio.

| Internet isnot available with your room, andthe option to get it is too expensive, specially if your are not even getting breakfast included. I guess I hate hidden charges, and that is the way I took it when they told me $25.00 for the option of using the internet. For business trips internet is critical, they know it, and want and are taking advantage of it. They will never get my business or any body esle from my company.

| My room was clean and comfortable. The housekeeping service was very good. I liked the complimentary bottled water. The hotel and the fittings are starting to show signs of aging. The complimentary dial-up internet access was lousy - lots of spam and frustrating disconnects. However, I did not try the available broadband connection option since it was a pricey US$20 per day. All in all, a safe and clean hotel if not quite the jewel it used to be.

| It is easy to see why Maksoud Plaza was THE hotel to stay at 20-30 years ago. The service was impeccable, including a very easy room change/upgrade, multilingual bellhops, and a complimentary shuttle to the Guarulhos International Airport. The location is perfect - just one block off Ave. Paulista. The rooms are quite spacious; it is best to request a room on a higher floor (14 and up) to see the concrete ocean of Sao Paulo surrounding the hotel. Beautiful monogrammed bedsheets and bathrobes complete the picture. On the negative side, as soon as you walk into the atrium lobby, you notice the smell of old times - maybe it's the aged leather chairs and setees at the bar? Old carpets? Even though one gets accustomed to the smell faily quickly, it is still a bit of a shock. We spent just one night at Maksoud; I would love to have experienced this luxury and service for longer.

| The Maksoud was once one of Sao Paulo's finest hotels. It is large and centrally located with full service restaurants and 24 hour room service. In recent years, several other truly great hotels have been built in the region knocking the Maksoud out of the top tier. Now slightly shopworn, it still retains some of the old style it was once famous for. It seems now that the Maksoud's marketing plan is to offer reasonable rates to get you in the door, then charge dearly for everything else once you're there. Experienced travellers won't be disappointed.
