    Features
What to expect: The two-level lobby, known as the Colonnade, is an opulent gathering place with intricately carved ceiling, arched windows, 30-foot columns, and sitting areas with cherry-red and moss-green velvet chairs. Behind the front desk, the original bank-vault door from 1911 is a monument to the building’s past. On the lobby mezzanine, the Whiskey Bar draws a see-and-be-seen crowd of entertainers and professional athletes.

Amenity highlights: The BANK restaurant, a creation of renowned chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten, serves sophisticated fare in an ornately appointed room with vaulted ceiling, tall columns, and red-velvet chairs. The Whiskey Bar is a Houston hotspot. Dozens of other downtown restaurants and nightclubs within a three-mile radius are accessible via the hotel’s complimentary London-style taxi or by pedicab.

Insider tip: La Carafe, the oldest tavern in Houston, is across the street from the hotel. Established about 1875, this candlelit hideaway offers plenty of atmosphere, a tiny upstairs room with balcony, seasonal outdoor seating, and a vintage jukebox.

BANK - Created by chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten. Seafood, game, and steak with European and Asian influences. Extensive international wine list, including selections by the glass. Vaulted ceiling, 30-foot Doric columns, red-velvet chairs, white linens. Prix-fixe lunch, dinner tasting menus. Breakfast, lunch, dinner.

The Whiskey Bar - Hotspot for style-setting Houstonians and hotel guests. Created by nightclub entrepreneur Rande Gerber. Located on lobby's mezzanine level. Low velvet furniture, art photography, fireplace, high-decibel recorded music with DJs. Drinks, appetizer menu from BANK. Open afternoons until late night. Reservations strongly advised for weekend seating.

The Wine Vault - Private dining room for up to 30. Antique bronze doors from a French wine cellar, barrel-vaulted ceiling of inlaid brick, thousands of vintages artfully displayed. Picture window can be frosted for privacy or clear for a view of the pastry chef at work.

This hotel is beautiful and the rooms are spacious and comfortable. I loved the feel of opulent Texas history. Room service and valet service is efficient and friendly. The bathroom is large and clean. Main drawback for ladies is the lack of appropriate lighting for putting on make-up and blow drying hair. It was like getting ready in a cave. They should add vanity lighting....or bring your own make-up mirror! Also, housekeeping had a few glitches (forgetting to leave soap, etc). We returned around 6:00pm one evening to find that housekeeping had not cleaned the room or replaced towels. However, the staff was quick to remedy this and offered us free brunch the next morning.

My wife and I had a weekend getaway at the Hotel ICON in Houston based on a recommendation from a co-worker who previously lived in downtown. The ICON was incredibly nice with a distinct European boutique hotel feel. The location seems to offer a great nightlife, though that also comes with loud street noise on a weekend night until the bars close down. Comes with the territory I guess. The spa is small but also nice. We had a couples massage during the day which we both very much enjoyed. The price was very fair compared to similar hotels in San Antonio or the Hill Country. If you're looking for a convenient, romantic weekend trip from Dallas, Austin, San Antonio, or even Houston itself, or if you find yourself in Houston for a weekeend from anywhere else, I can easily recommend the ICON as a place to stay.

The Hotel is fabulous, though it is in a quiet area; I wish they could pick it up and move it to Galleria.

My husband and I stayed there on our wedding night and were not disappointed. The room was spacious and immaculate, and decorated in a very modern fashion. Having the garden tub opening up to the bedroom was a great idea for a layout. Bed was very comfortable with excellent pillows. Only complaint was that the Sat nite street noise kept me awake until 2 am. Breakfast in bed option was a delight!

My one and only complaint was the parking. Downtown is still under construction and we arrived very late at night. Had to drive around the block three times before we could find the entrance. There was a backup at the valet and we were anxious to get checked in and relax. The signs regarding parking were ambiguous and not apparent from the street at all. The signage indicating that no self parking was available wasn't at all visible until you were well into the parking garage at the bottom of the ramp. Had to back up all the way back to the valet station. I was exhausted and grumpy and frustrated over not being able to find the garage and get parked, but the staff handled me and my bad mood extremely well. I would recommend that the hotel make it more explicit in their information that only valet parking is available. I travel occasionally with computer equipment and supplies and it is against my company's policies to use valet parking if equipment is in the car. When booking travellers need to know that valet parking is the only option available at the hotel.

My boyfriend and I celebrated valentine's day at Icon. The food was spectacular(the wine vault really set the mood). We also had drinks at the Whiskey. But the most romantic thing was the Bath Butler who draws bath water mixed with scented oils and rose petals. The massages were also a plus!!!!
