Grand Barbados Resort is an excellent hotel right on one of the beautiful beaches in Barbados. The staff is very nice and friendly; the elevators were another plus, and the fact that the hotel is right on the beach was fantastic. The rooms were also very good and comfortable with his/her sinks in the bathroom. Also, the hotel is surrounding by eating places which are easily accessible. We would definitely stay at this hotel again when we visit Barbados.

We just returned from 5 nights at the Southern Palms and we very much enjoyed our visit. We had a second-floor beachfront room in the new section (room 209) and we were most satisfied with the accommodations. Our room was nice and the beach/ocean view was spectacular. We did not purchase the meal plan because we prefer to sample the local restaurants (which were all very good but a little on the expensive side- relative to the other islands we have visited). While the resort's breakfast buffet was sumptuous, it was very expensive ($26.50 US, I believe) so we elected to eat breakfast at Happy Days Cafe across the street (pancakes, bacon and coffee for a very reasonable $7.50) or order ala carte at the resort restaurant (where the above ran $10.00). We checked our e-mail and used the internet in the resort's computer room (no charge and seldom in use when we went there). The resort's pool, beach, landscaping and buildings are beautiful and in excellent condition! There was very nice live music 3 of the 5 nights which was very nice and the bands were quite good. The resort's location is excellent and was one of the reasons I chose to stay here; it is very close to some nice shops, restaurants, bars, etc., as well as a bus stop (cheap and fun way to get to Bridgetown). Our only complaint about the island, and to a lessor extent the resort ,is that some of the tourist industry people were not overly friendly, as they are in the 6 other Caribbean islands we've visited.

The hotel is very hard to rate so I will try to write a valid review for everyone thinking of staying here. This is the first time I have ever stayed in a resort in my life, I have to admit it is a great feeling to just get up after a meal and not have to pay everytime as well as be able to enjoy the open bar most of the time. But with this hotel, the staff were either VERY friendly or seemed to hate you, walking around it seemed most people look at you in hate (outside the resort). The food most nights was either the best thing you ever had, or you go hungry as the menu was limited only to 4 different entrees per night and the portion sizes were TINY. For the restaurant, at dinner time there was a dress code, if not followed perfectly they reject you and you go hungry (they dont care you already paid for the meal). Now for the rooms, we had the ocean view room and it was very scenic to look at every day and watch the sunset, they did a great job cleaning it. However, while having a shower room service broke the latch on our door and barged in. Took 3 days and repeat annoyances to the staff to get it fixed. My dad has stayed in Cuba a couple times and seems like a better experience. I would not return to Mango Bay. Last note: Beds are rock hard and the "king" bed is 2 twin beds put together.. ouch

We just returned from a 5 night stay at the resort. I do have to agree with a few prior reviews I had read about the resort being an older one and in need of some work and repair. Saying that we were pleased with hotel staff and their assistance with our last minute wedding...the coordinator was exceptional. Food was good, mixed drinks definately lacked flavour. If you are looking for a beach...don't stay here. Stay at the other Almond Beach Resort 15 minutes away. I am in my 40's and felt that this resort is for the much older vacationing couples. I dont think I would stay again as their are many more resorts that offer more within this price range.

My husband, 6 yr old daughter and I stayed at the Amaryllis resort from Dec. 21st through Dec. 31st. The resort has very beautiful grounds with lovely flowers. The staff was very helpful and accommodating. The hotel has a free shuttle that takes you into Bridgetown for shopping. The beach is just great! The swimming area is perfect for small children as it is protected by a barrier of rocks so that during low tide, it is like a big, warm, clear swimming pool. The ocean water was actually warmer than the swimming pool water and we hung out mostly in the ocean. I strongly recommend getting an oceanfront room. We had booked an oceanfront deluxe room from which we had the most beautiful beach and ocean view! We could hear the sound of the waves every time we sat in the balcony - it was just so relaxing. There is a beach snack restaurant that has the usual burgers, sandwiches and drinks. The menu could use some variety but it is convenient. Also, the main restaurant is a little pricey but as we had a rental car, we went out and had all kinds of great food. Also, we explored the island as there is a good road infrastructure - keep in mind, driving is on the left side. Lots of malls, shopping, restaurants, gardens - just a beautiful island, very safe, very gracious and helpful people and just a great experience all in all! I would wholeheartedly recommend the Amaryllis resort and look forward to returning there in the near future.

I was very pleased with Treasure Beach Hotel. The service is very personal and you feel more like family than a guest. The hotel itself was very quiet and relaxing without the busy "resort" feel. Breakfast was free with our booking and couldn't have been better: omelettes to order, fresh fruit and juices, toast, etc. Housekeeping was exemplary. I have stayed at many a hotel in the caribbean and this one was by far the cleanest. The housekeeping ladies were great. I would recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a quiet, restful vacation without a bunch of noisy kids and rowdy party people. The grounds were also beautiful and very well maintained.

We found this to be an excellent all round enjoyable experience for our honeymoon:-) Excellent room - clean and tidy room. Excellent staff, all willing to help and advise. Great tasting food, drink and plentiful. Good selection of free water sports. We paid extra for the jet ski. Only grip is the second restaurant 'Cutters' which is outside and prone to flying birds after the good tasting food....lol Gym facilities were good. Evening entertainment during dinner not great but there were bands on occasions playing which was nice. During our time there were a mix of couples and small families at the resort. We were able to book a free courtesy room for 30min before the taxi arrived to freshen up as we had a late flight and were able to use the resort facilities at no extra cost until we left. Excellent resort and thoroughly enjoyed out time there.

Our stay at Discovery Bay was perfectly pleasant. The room was lovely, with a view overlooking the Caribbean. Everything was clean and tidy. It might not be a super luxurious resort, but it had all the necessities. We especially appreciated the mini-fridge as we did not partake in the all-inclusive meal program. Our only mishap in Barbados was not related to our hotel stay at all, our baggage did not make the connection in Miami and so we were without our stuff for 24hours. Hard to enjoy the beach when we are dressed for Montréal winter! I would recommend always taking an emergency carry-on bag with the essentials as it seems to be a common occurrence. Especially with flights which connect through Miami.

I returned from the Almond Casaurina yesterday. Overall, my family and I had a good experience, but there were some things that bothered us, and other guests shared our same concrens. 1) I did not have internet access for an entire week. There is no WiFi at the resort and the hard wired connection was not working. In 2011 I think it is unacceptable to not have free WiFi at a resort. 2) Prior to arrival I was not informed of the requirement for men to wear 'long trousers' for dinner. I where a suit to work everyday, and when I am on vacation on an island in 90 degree heat I like to wear shorts. Because of this requirement I was only allowed to eat dinner at the buffets and I could not go to some of the finer dining experiences. 3) Customer service skills were lacking in most of the employees. The front desk staff should always greet you with a smile, but I am not sure if I saw any of the young ladies in guest services smile at anyone. The bartenders and the beach staff were the only personable staff. Some of the waitresses were good, but some acted as if I they did not want to do their job. 4) The resort is very well kept and it is very close to the airport. I enjoyed the food even though I could only partake of the buffets. As I walked through St. Lawrence Gap, it did appear that the Almond Casaurina was one of the nicest resorts in this area. My parents are from Barbados, so I will return to the island, but I will probably stay somewhere else.
