The Claremont Hotel & Spa is an experience rather than a hotel with amenities. Growing up in Piedmont meant that we were very familiar with the location, amenities & the restaurants @ the Claremont. They’ve one of the best brunch buffets in the Bay Area. Visiting CA, we stayed in rooms 241 & 242, classic doubles. We had 2 adults + 2 kids per room. The front desk and housekeeping staff are exceedingly helpful. The rooms were basic. The mattresses were VERY firm which 3 of the 4 adults did not enjoy. The A/C does not cool the room well. The bathrooms are small. However, the shower makes up for this - loads of towels, lovely bathroom sundries & fabulous water pressure/temperature. The historic doors & evocative decorations makes one feel that he is living back in a more gracious and lovely period of history. It’s the spa, pools, tennis courts & exercise amenities that stamp this as a modern hotel to compete with. Using these amenities is more like being a member in an exclusive & private club rather than a gym. There is a mandatory resort fee - TOTALLY worth it! The kids & adults loved it. If you choose not to eat at the resort, you will find a lovely bakery as well as a great Pete’s Coffee across the street from the bottom of the tennis courts and second parking entrance. A car rental is helpful to get around in the area but with the car you are able to drive everywhere from the location. There is a daily parking fee.
