Prior to our trip we read many positive reviews of this resort and we were not disappointed. The service was excellent as was the welcoming/friendly atmosphere from reception to checkout, waitstaff, maids, maintenance workers, etc. included. For those who are looking for an action packed vacation this might not be the ideal resort. However, if you are looking for a relaxing, romantic, secluded getaway then this is perfect! While there were always people around it was never crowded by any means. The emphasis on relaxation and the resort as an oasis was clear. The room was clean and well maintained as were the grounds. While the reception area felt a little outdated upon initial sight it quickly felt comfortable and welcoming - just different from what you otherwise might be accustomed to. The resort is on a far area of the island so trips to and from the airport or other destinations could become costly with cab fares although that might be avoided with the use of scooters. We did not have the opportunity for water sports or other activities at the resort as the weather was not great during our stay. The food was very good although I did not leave any meal feeling "wow"d - perhaps it was a bit overpriced - but it was still above average preparation/presentation of all of our meals (perhaps we have otherwise been spoiled by a few local restaurants). Book your spa reservations early. I would absolutely return to this resort and would highly recommend it to others!!

Despite some lukewarm reviews, I found the resort extremely nice with some great amenities. Some of the amenities, such as the beach, tennis, golf course, and Waterlot restaurant are a moderate walk away, but they had a series of trolleys running from quite early to quite late each day that took you around. The beach is extremely nice, and is literally next door to one of the greatest beaches in the world -- Horseshoe Bay (also easily accessible from the trolleys). There was a braod array of restaurant choices, including the 5-diamond Newport Room (pricey but exquisite service) down to the pool- and beach-side grills. Service was attentive and generally quite solid, but we had occasional breakdowns (lost room service order; missed gold shuttle).

While our visit was very pleasant, some of the services we had anticipated, part of the reason for booking at the Hamilton Princess as opposed to the Southampton Princess, were not available. For example, we had anticipated that we would be able to move back and forth freely between the two hotels via their shuttle and water shuttle. The shuttle only made one trip per day and the water shuttle was not in service yet. All were to begin more frequently as of April 1st. Also some of the restaurants in both hotels were not open yet for the season. The hotel staff did their best to accomodate our wishes--like taking our golf clubs on the shuttle, even though we weren't going to the resort until later.

Let me start by saying that many of the hotel.com reviews are incorrect about the hotel and its staff. I greatly enjoyed this hotel, its location, staff, and beautiful beach. There are many points that made this the perfect getaway spot. POSITIVE ASPECTS 1) PRIVACY: Coco Reef comes with a very private layout which allows guests to enjoy the views and the island without seeing and hearing other guests. Our visit started on Wednesday, and the hotel was only 25% occupied. During the weekend the hotel was full, but still quiet. 2) GROCERY STORE: There is a grocery store located within 15 minutes (walking) from the hotel. Food on the island is priced about the same as food in NYC or other large cities, so eating out every meal can add up. 3) RESTAURANTS: The hotel is located on Elbow Beach which also hosts other resorts including one in the adjacent lot to Coco Reef. That resort has excellent dining facilities including Sea Breeze (terrific sushi) and Mickies (bar/local food). We did not eat at Coco Reef, because the restaurants at the resort next door were open air and close to the ocean. 4) BARS: Coco Reef has one main bar in the lobby. Guests in the pool can access the bar through a back door. The resort also had a staff member circle the beach and allow guests to order drinks. 5) LOCATION: Coco Reef is located within 15 minutes (driving) to Hamilton and 30-45 minutes to the Airport. Cab fares were inexpensive, so the location did not bother us. The island is hilly and hot, so I would not plan on trying to walk across the island or to Hamilton. 6) STAFF: Coco Reef staff were very hospitable and friendly. We even had a problem with our room in the middle of the night, and staff member came and corrected the issue. NEUTRAL TO NEGATIVE ASPECTS 1) The beds were very uncomfortable. The king bed was actually two beds pushed together which left a gap in the middle. 2) Appetizers at the Coco Reef bar were subpar for the price. 3) As stated above, the island is extremely hilly, so be aware that all of the resorts have many stairs and steep walkways.

This is a loud convention type hotel that is way over priced for the accomendations. Staff was not there to serve only to hold there hand out for tips. My wife and I stayed at another resort for 3 nights before Elbow and we got spoiled by real service at a resort for half the price. Would never stay there again. Bermuda is awesome and this place really left a bad taste in our mouths. We rented a scooter and ate at other resorts and visited other beaches just to get away from Elbow. Paid way to much to run from this place. Dirty bathrooms with clogged toilets at the pool and beach area, rude staff at dinner, ocean front room was 200 yards and a 10 minute walk to the ocean. I am going to stop and sorry for being so harsh it's just over rated.
