Just came back from a trip to Hamaca. We had planned the trip many months in advance, so had a bit of time to second guess ourselves as we read some of the very negative reviews. Overall, we were pleasantly surprised with the quality of the hotel. It is no doubt a solid 3.5 star all-inclusive resort. Cleanliness and maintenance of the hotel are quite good, but can be better. The food was hit or miss, especially for vegetarians, but the chefs tried to accomodate. Initial service quality was somewhat lacking, but the staff responded well to special requests/complaints. There are garden view rooms "across the street", but they all feel like part of the same campus. There are a lot of moped-drivers on the streets who create a slight anxiety given the reports of purse snatchers, but we did not have any negative encounters. The beach/sand/water was beautiful. We never felt overcrowded. The pool and kids play areas were also nice. The after dinner theater was kind of run down. The New Year's Eve party thrown by the hotel was wonderful, with nice music, great atmosphere, decent food (great spread, but again not many vegetarian options), topped off by a spectacular fire works display. I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to travelers looking for value for money. Yes, if you are expecting Ritz Carlton or Four Seasons, then best to look elsewhere.

The hotel was by no means luxuriousbut the beach is as beautiful as you could want it to be and the people are very friendly. Expect to ask for what you need especially at the dinner table, getting drinks and dinnerware was a goal every night. The entertainment was great and beach volleyball is always great! The pools are nice and there is great food on and off the resort. Overall a mellow feel and great stay.

The hotel/resort is really worth the price. Especially if you book for the off season like I did. I was a single, 23 year old just looking to travel abroad for the first time. I planned on looking at this vacation as an adventure because of the price. However, I was pleasantly surprised that I really enjoyed the resort. The food was really good. Obviously, you are not going to get steak and lobster. However, if you enjoy local food then you will be pleased. I only went to the "Habiscus" which is the buffet. I went for 13 days but I didn't go to the a la carte restaurants because I was by myself and I felt awkward. The food included chicken for every meal. The chicken was really good and it was all you can eat. Rice was served for every meal but it did vary in the preparation. The squid was good and so was most of the food. Also, I must say that the bread was all good. It was all local bread and it was fresh. They also had homemade ice cream for lunch and dinner. They also had a snack bar during the day at the big pool with burgers and dogs. Itg was nice for a big day snack. OK, enough about food but I know that is a huge part of an all inclusive. It was definitely worth it for the price. They also have a late night snack bar which sometimes included rice and chicken but mainly was burgers and hot dogs. The fresh buns made the burgers and dogs better than expected. Plus, "Presidente" beer was on tap the whole night. The drinks were good but they are all local brands. Therefore, do not expect Captain or Bacardi for the rum. I mostly drank the beer which was very good and cold. However, the liquor was good when mixed and plus it is all inclusive. I recommend bringing a thermos or big cup so that you do not have to refill every 10 minutes. Also, a couple dollars for a tip will get you a long way with the bartenders. They will remember you and get you a drink right away even with a lot of people waiting. So 2 dollars a day will make you a VIP. The beach is OK. They have lots of area for you to lay out but beware of the locals who try to sell you stuff. Just say "No thanks" or "No gracias" and you will be fine. However, if you walk down the beach then you will get harassed with men trying to sell you women, beer, or food. Just try and wave them off if you do not want to be bothered. The water was warm and calm. It is nice when laying out at the beach. The pools were great. The water was a bit murky but that wasn't a big deal. It was cleaned daily and pretty nice. However, a big problem I had was that all the pools closed at 7pm. I would of liked to swim at night and a jacuzzi but they didn't have either. Also, kind of in regards to the pool is beware of the weekends. Many locals come for the weekend. They are loud and very numerous. I would go back for a Monday to Friday trip but the weekends were just over-crowded. DO NOT check-in on a Friday night because there is a line of about 50 people. However, a late check in or week day check in will be easy and fast. The main problem I had with this hotel is the bathroom. Not even the sink or toilet because they were good. However, the shower/bath was pretty nasty. It was stained and hadn't been maintained over the years. However, the room and room service was great. The television had several English speaking channels and that was enough for me. I did not need a remote but it may be a good idea to get one at check in. However, I decided to not get the key for the safe and it saved me 25 dollars. I never once felt like I was going to be robbed. I kept my money in my suitcase and nothing was ever disturbed. However, if you are really worried then I don't blame you but it wasn't necessary for me. The beds were hard but I didn't mind at all. The town is poor and somewhat intimidating. However, the resort is heavily guarded by private security. They all had handguns or shotguns. I felt safe at all times. Even on my 5 minute walk to the beach. The walk is secluded, peaceful, and really nic
