The room was good - the bed and pillows in particular. The hallway needed new carpet. No phone book and a non-present concierge - no phone book so you would be unable to easily locate your other dining options. The in-house restuarant was very pricey and we never ate at the hotel as a result. They had water bottles out for you by the ice bucket, only a very careful exam of the label to find the tiny price sticker saved us from paying $X for a bottle of water. We never got to use the in room refrigerator as we sure were not going to break the seal for who knows how much cost. We were also charged a "resort fee" above and beyond the Expedia rental rate for ammenties we didn't use. My overall impression of Las Vegas was that it was the greediest town I have ever been in and I do not foresee a return. No free airport shuttle to the h otel, no contintental breakfast, no phone book, excessive taxes and fess for everything. They can keep the glitz for the chumps. I came for a business trip conference and was not impressed. Maybe we would have been more impressed if we had a rental car but the lowest cost for three days in Vegas was an extra $XXX above the $XXX I paid for a week upon leaving (and $XX of that cost was fees and taxes).

I have stayed at the Hilton before, and found myself there for a quick weekend visit with family staying at a neighboring hotel. I was concerned upon arrival at the location - I arrived at night, and it's vastly different than how it appears in the daytime. Coming off of a hotel shuttle, I wondered if the area hadn't become a relatively "low-rent" district. Getting to my room changed my feeling on that - it was really much nicer than I expected. Nicely appointed, it was in a smoke-free area of the hotel (what a difference THAT makes) so it exceeded my expectations. The monorail beyond the doors made reaching my other destination on the Strip much easier, though I did have to resort to taking cabs (with obscene prices to boot). Overall, I loved the room, and the relaxing atmosphere it provided. My qualms: Don't offer water saving ideas if they're not going to follow through. I followed their 'environmental' directions on saving water and reusing towels - only to have the maid service replace them all daily. Ditto for the bed; I'm totally into conserving and was quite riled that they hadn't briefed their staff on these issues. Lastly, the faucet on the sink was a challenge; it would shut itself off, so finding a way to prop it open was interesting. Little things - yet they wouldn't change my view on staying again.

I've stayed at the Desert Rose Resort twice and I would not hesitate to stay again. It's only a short ten minute walk to the Strip and about the same to get to the Monorail. Being so close to the airport I expected it to be noisy but I never heard a landing or take off during either stay. The continental breakfast is a great convenience. Parking is easy, no long walk to the hotel, park practically right outside the door. Both rooms I stayed in were completely renovated with a full kitchen, including full size stove/oven and microwave oven, full size refridgerator/freezer, built-in dishwasher and trash disposal. This hotel is an excellent choice for an extended stay when restaurants can become pricy. I was so impressed with the Desert Rose Resort, I could give it six stars out of five!!

We didn't initially book the Desert Club, but chose it when we wanted to spend one more night in Vegas and our first hotel was full. So we booked one night via Expedia. The resort consists of about 20 three-story buildings, with a semi-private entrance and little deck or patio for each room. Our suite could have used some updating, particularly the worn cabinetry and tube TVs, but it was comfortable. The resort was quiet, and the heated pools were lovely. The resort is about a 10-minute walk to the strip, but offers free shuttles to and from the strip and a few other locations. We like to walk, but did take the shuttle back at night. Overall we were pleased and would stay here again. A few important notes: Our building didn't have an elevator - we don't know about the other buildings. While that wasn't a problem for us, you might want to request a 1st-floor room if you don't like stairs. Conversely, we heard the people walking around above us (we were on 2nd floor), so if we go back, we'll ask for a 3rd-floor room. Check in was unnecessarily difficult. Our confirmation and the confirmation Expedia faxed to the resort showed a one-night reservation, but the resort's system showed two nights. Rather than let us check in for one night and figure out the glitch later, the reception person had us wait while he tried to figure out the problem.
