This was out 1st visit to Flamingo Beach Resort, and we were pleased. The staff is awesome...everyone we encountered was friendly, accommodating, & helpful. The resort is small which we really enjoyed. It's definitley not the Ritz but very comfortable. Great pool area with a bar. Only complaint-they run out of beach towels at the pool most days. Pack your own if possible. The breakfast plan is the way to go. Great breakfast each morning. Would NOT recommend the entire meal plan. There are EXCELLENT restaurants in the area-many will come pick you up at the resort or the resort van will take you for a fee. Carlos Y Carlos was one of the best meals we have eaten anywhere-it is a MUST for dinner. Il Forno has delicious eggplant lasagna, Mar Y Sol wonderful lobster. Would definitley recommend Flamingo Beach Resort. Pack casual clothes only-it's all you will need! Booked 2 excursions thru the resort: Congo Canopy Tour which was great & fishing with Sun King which was a bust.

Great small resort! Service is fabulous! Food is better than a lot of resorts ive been to. Resort has a lot of hills and walking but our room was in building 17 which is as far from the lobby as you can get. Kept us from getting too fat on the trip. A few buildings show signs of the resorts 30 year age but they are making great strides to fix the place up. Avoid the invitation to view their vacation club! Very pushy salespeople who insist you sign NOW. If your looking for natural beauty and a relaxing, quiet resort this is your place, If you need a magnificent room with white sand beaches and crystal clear water then keep looking.

If you can get beyond the bad roads there and the reception desk, you will have a good time. The people at the reception desk are cold and not very helpful. The rest of the staff are great. The food was one of the best we've had at resorts.I had seen previous reviews and many had said the food was just ok.They must have changed the menu since those people were there. The grounds of the resort are very nice and the hotel it self is too.Rooms had some electrical problems......we would blow a fuse when the air was on and we used a blow dryer. The beach is beautiful.Nothing to do outside of the resort though. The town of Tamrindo has nothing to offer. You can go on the day trips, but they kill a whole day most of the time.Glad we went....it was a good experience.Do'nt eat or drink food outside of the resort. On our way home I let my guard down and 2 of my kids eat chicken sandwiches at the airport and got severly ill after we came home.Water and food were not a problem at the resort it self.Go, be careful, and you will have a good time.

The resort is peaceful, a black sand beach. The staff is friendly and courteous. The restaurant is excellent. This resort does not cater to people who want to "party". The swim up bar and pool restaurant close at 5:PM. The main restaurant closes at 9PM. The views are spectacular. I met several guests who have been returning for many years, and I will do the same. Next door to the resort is a restaurant called Father Roosters; casual, relaxed atmosphere, excellent service and great food.

We loved this resort. It is remote, located down some challenging gravel roads. We thought it was well worth the extra driving to get there. It is about an hour from Tamarindo and an hour and a half from Liberia (if you drive with zeal). The grounds are beautiful and it is located on an amazing, private black volcanic sand beach. The two story cottages were huge and nicely appointed. We primarily dined at the resort only for breakfast. The dinners were a bit pricey for what you get and all drinks from the bar were at least $7.00 each. Knowing this, we bought our own beer and wine in Liberia before getting to the resort. It is too bad for the resort as almost nobody ordered from the bar. I think if the drinks were even a bit more reasonable they would sell a lot more. We enjoyed trying the local restaurants for meals other than breakfast. We drank the water and were adventurous in dining though all our travels in Costa Rica. Nobody in our party developed illness during or after the trip. (although this is not likely true for everyone!) This is great resort to go to experience the real Costa Rica.

The Hilton Papagayo resort is about a 25-30 minute (by taxi, private car, or rental car) drive from the Liberia airport. Standard taxi cost was $50 each way, though you should be able to get them to $40. The resort is very nice and sits on a relatively secluded beach on the west coast of Costa Rica. The Hilton has a good selection of restaurants, you need to make reservations at least 2 nights in advance. Food selection is pretty good, the Papagayo burger is great. The resort has shuttles to get around, just call the office and a shuttle will get you within 5 minutes. Part of the resort is situated on a bit of a hill, it offers lush, green scenery. The only bad thing about the resort is the location, it's a bit secluded from everything, which is great you want to get away from it all. If you're looking for touristy things off the property like restaurants or shopping then you will have to arrange transportation by taxi, rental car, or shuttle bus, and the transportation isn't particularly cheap. Be careful if arranging transportation with any of the independent guys down by the beach, they are not affiliate with the hotel and there are no guarantees that they will show up, especially if you pre-pay them (we had an issue where we pre-paid $25 for airport transportation and they didn't show up...we were lucky to catch a ride with another couple that had planned transportation shortly after us). For tourist type shopping and sourvenirs you'll want to go to Coco Beach, it's a 20 minute ride away, from the resort, transportation cost is around $50 roundtrip. As for excursions there is no shortage of options, we did one of the canopy tours that included zip-lining, horseback riding, lunch at a local restaurant, and the geothermal spa/mudbath situated off the side of one of the volcanos. That was arranged through Issys tours with one of the tour guys down on the beach, cost was around $125 per person but that's always subject to change. The trip took about 6 hours and the tourguides were very good. The people at the resort were very nice and helpful, the bartenders were good about getting drinks in a timely manner. I'd highly recommend this resort if you're looking for something somewhat secluded, but if you're looking for something in the middle of all the action then I'd say to look somewhere else. Personally, I and my wife enjoyed the resort and our trip very much.

The resort is located about an hour NE of Liberia. The roads aren't great getting up there, but not horrible either. We rented a small car and made it fine. It is extremely mountainous, hence the name, and some areas of the drive are very steep and narrow. Be very careful around corners and on narrow bridges. The resort itself is beautiful. Each guest has their own bungalow, or suite and they overlook the valley. If you stay in the jr suites, just know that it is quite a steep hike up, but you can also request a ride from the golf carts that are always around. If you are into physical fitness, I recommend walking/running the few dirt roads in the area. You will get a great workout. The tours were great. We did 2, ziplining and a hike to the waterfalls. Both were on horseback. The guides were also great. Very friendly and knowledgeable. If you go, request Marco. He was very funny and kept us thoroughly enteretained. I think the only negative would be the lack of restaurants. There really is just one and then a small place to eat lunch near the pools. They definitely could have more menu choices or rotate the menu. They did allow me to order off the lunch menu twice at dinner. Some of the dinner options were kind of weird and the desserts on the dinner menu weren't good, at least in my opinion. They were lacking chocolate. I would definitely recommend Borinquen Mtn Resort. The people of Costa Rica were friendly and helpful and most spoke english.

Really enjoyed the stay at Sol Papagayo resort at Panama Beach/Costa Rica. Not only was service really nice, but the kitchen staff was very accomodating to us, since we are vegetarians. The location was awesome, in the forest, and to our surprise when we were having breakfast in an open dining room, a troupe of howler monkeys about 20 of them, came by and gave us a show on the trees above us. Incredible. Also as we were taking pictures of the monkeys, we noticed the calm bay and the ocean right there, 30 feet from where we were standing by the pool. Safety also was a great asset to this hotel. Will be back again .

The staff, grounds, and rooms of this resort are very good. The beach by the hotel was good, but a little rocky. The food... was a disaster. We took nearly all of our meals during our five night stay at the resort. There were only two dishes that we would consider ordering again. To make matters worse... the prices of the dishes are ridiculous - even for a resort in a remote area. The steak at Sabanero is good, and the drinks throughout the resort are made with fresh ingredients (though extremely watered down). In short, I will be returning to the area.. but not with this resort. If you like a nice pool and grounds, this is a great spot. However... You'll spend a lot of time traveling to/from Tamarindo (25 minutes each way) to get a decent meal.

The Hideaway is not the easiest place to get to, but that's the point with this fabulous resort! It is worth the travel time to get away from the city into the heart of the rain forest. Each casita is nestled into nature and includes an outdoor shower. We were awoken every morning by the calls of birds and monkeys. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I would very highly recommend this resort!
