The Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe was a very nice stay for my wife and I. The food was better than advertised, the rooms were comfortable, the small casino was fun, and the "swim outside" style pool was very cool and very useful in the cold weather. As for what to watch out for here - note that the resort is on the north side if the lake which, while far nicer than the south side, simply doesn't offer much else outside of the Hyatt and its grounds. If you want to go out to eat, or to a movie, or to see Emerald Lake, etc. you'll find yourself driving very far away. The hotel is on the complete other side of the Lake to South Lake Tahoe where the big casinos are, but we really didn't see much reason to go there - unless you were going to Heavenly ski resort of course. And finally, be aware that while there are three movie theaters near the hotel, they are the smallest, oldest, lowest-tech theaters you've seen in 20 years and each show either one or two movies. I would definitely go back but I would go in the middle of summer or winter. I would strongly advise renting a car because you'll need it to explore the Lake - there's a beautiful drive that takes you all around the Lake in about 3 hours.

Stayed for 2 nights for a quick ski trip for the kids. The hotel was ~20 minutes from the Northstar Ski Resort. Plenty of room to spread out - hubbie and I stayed with our 3 kids (ages 6, 4, and 2) and my parents - total of 8 in a two bedroom condo (one king bed in "master" bedroom, pull-out sofa in the living room, and two double beds in the 2nd bedroom) Booked through expedia - so could have gotten a better unit location in the resort, as we were right next to the registration office with a downstairs unit (the snow was beginning to melt, so we couldn't enjoy our outdoor balcony, as it continually "rained" from the upstairs deck.) Would go back again. Used the fully stocked kitchen to cook dinner/breakfast/etc. - very convenient. Grocery store 5 minute drive up the road. Beautiful woodwork throughout condo - enjoyable to sit and look at the beautiful decor. Disliked that the "jacuzzi" tub was in the master bedroom - personal preference, is that a tub should belong in a bathroom, not the bedroom.
