you should know (as we did not) that this is a resort for families. while the staff was courteous, it was difficult to communicate with them in english. the food was "ok" but not exceptional. the place was very crowded and very noisy. it was difficult to find a pool chair, or a spot on the small beach. you could not go anywhere without tripping over small children. there is nothing wrong with such a resort if you have small children and want a family vacation. my only point in writing this review is to inform people what they can expect. this is not a resort for couples.

Playa de Oro was a great place to stay. The people are warm and friendly. The food was great, the grounds nice, the pools clean. A few words of caution: not all rooms are created equal. Our first one had some problems (non-workig lights, ripped curtain, plaster splashes on the sliding glass door), but the second one (up at the top of the hill) was great. You might want to check when Mexican vacations take place - we managed to hit their spring vacation and their holy week - so the resort was really crowded on some days. We really enjoyed being a part of Mexico and interacting (at least a little bit) with the Mexican families at the resort. A completely different experience than being at many of the RCI exchanges we've made. I would definitely recommend Playa de Oro!

I went to Karmina Palace after staying at a condo that was on the beach south of Karmina. I have to say that the rooms were great and the staff was awesome, but I left not being sure if I would return. We were spoiled by the food that we found at the local restaurants and the food at the resort was just okay. We got really tired of eating at the buffet restaurant becuase we couldn't get reservations at the two other nicer restaurants. Food was our main issue with the resort. The all-inclusive is not necessarily all it is cracked up to be.

This resort was just what my husband and I wanted and expected, no vendors, private beach and serenity. If you are looking for parties, activities or have trouble walking, this may not be your place. You can walk around the marina and watch the boats come in at noon with their daily catch. But there are MANY stairs at this resort, you need taxi to get into down. Beware in town the grounds are uneven. Learn your spanish, very few know english in town, likewise the resort. However, the resort's concierge, Lois, was wonderful and will help with anything you need. Played Las Hadas golf course, magnificant. 18th hole is a million dollar par 3 but over water onto an island. There are 4 par 5' on the course, brings your own clubs. Wonderful place!!!

We stayed at club Maeva for 5 days. It's a unique place to stay, but the hotel rooms are very old and outdated. There's no feeling of comfort or cheerfullness to the rooms. The rooms are very simple with not much decor. The hotel rooms are like mini apartments. You have a mini kitchen/dining/entertainment. We got a unit with two bedrooms and two baths. The beds are hard. You basically sleep on a matress on an elevated slab of concrete. The floors, fixtures, window coverings, tile, showers, etc. are all very old and ugly. They do keep the rooms clean. On the plus side, Club Maeva has great nightly family shows, waterslides, and gigantic pool. The pool water is a bit too warm, but there definitely is plenty of room to swim. The food is good, nothing too fancy. The staff was pretty friendly, however the resort sales staff is a little pushy in trying to get you go buy a timeshare with them. It took a long time to check in and check out of the hotel. It's a great family budget hotel, but if you want comfort and something more modern, you might want to check out another resort.
