My husband and I stayed here for a couple of nights while we traveled back and forth to Key West. The Resort was well maintained and the staff very helpful. The best part about the Resort happened to be the grounds. The lagoon area is a great place to relax and soak up some sun - everything else is well maintained. The room was clean and we had enough room in the closet to store all our luggage, which is a plus. I would stay there again...it's one of the few places in The Keys that you aren't unhappily surprised by the room when you get there!

We'll be back, no doubt!! At the last minute our travel plans changed so we needed a place that would accommodate 6 people comfortably. The Tranquility Bay Resort did that and so much more! The unit was clean, well maintained and the staff was warm and friendly. Our experience was so good that we booked a second night within the first hour of our stay!!

During a 6 week holiday from Australia we stayed 3 nights at the Boatman's Sombrero Resort in Marathon, using it as a base to see the Florida Keys. The resort is old and tired but the room was reasonably priced and was convenient as it included a full kitchen. It met our needs well and has a pleasant location on a canal with lots of boats tied up. Just be prepared to overlook tired stained carpet and a very firm bed. Overall we were quite satisfied with our stay there.

I was a little concerned after reading some of the previous reviews, but the price and amenities at the resort seemed like a great deal. I have stayed in far worse places in the keys for not much of a discount from the rates charged here. I booked for three nights the very morning of the day that I was going to arrive. When we arrived at the resort the check in went so fast I was surprised. Rory, the operator was friendly and informative and very laid back. He told me that since we were the last unit booked we were actually getting an upgrade to a three bedroom, stand alone unit with the best view in the resort. Twist my arm I told him. The unit we got was amazing. A full gourmet kitchen, relaxing great room and large deck on the ground floor was our first impression. The upstairs bedrooms had comfortable beds and two very nice bathrooms. The entire unit was decorated in cool tropical colors. Each bedroom, and the great room, had LCD TV's with cable and DVD players. This would be a great place for a family vacation. We did not bring a boat, but the dock outside was just 10 feet from the deck. These were a few boats moored in the channel. The pool areas looked great, but it was a cold weekend and we did not go swimming. The location was very good and in a quiet area. There were plenty of activities, dining and shopping opportunities just up the road from the resort. We ended up cooking dinner two nights we were there and found the kitchen to be well equipped. We did not have the housekeeping service come in while we were there, but daily cleaning is available for a fee. We found the accomodations to be very clean, other than lots of wall scuffs, likely the result of luggage being moved in and out by guests. All in all this was a great experience. I would definitely recommend the resort to anyone wanting a relaxing place in the keys.

Rainbow Bend is an older property, without many improvements to the rooms. Air conditioning was adequate, our room was small (there are larger rooms that are more expensive). The shower was good, except when laundry was being done, then the water pressure and temperature could be startling. Our beds were old and worn and should be replaced. The staff is very friendly and made up for the lack of luxury. Their prices are not out of line with other resorts in the area - it really is that expensive in the Keys. They have a beautiful beach and pool area and the boats are included in the room cost. It is a great property for fisherman and sunbathers. Most rooms have balconies or porches, though ours did not. It is a very comfortable area and the location made it easy to find - right on US 1. We always felt safe there, no worries about crime. The Hideaway Cafe really is as good as they say: gourmet food, very good service, though it is expensive. Breakfast is included at the restaurant and is a choice between 5 different options: eggs, pancakes, french toast, bagels, cereal (meat included with most). The Dolphin Research Center is about a mile away from the resort and is worth the visit. Look on their website for $3 off coupons. This place is best for fishermen as Marathon is small; Key West has more for tourists.
