The Westin Resort is located in the Marina district north of the city and just a very short taxi ride from the airport. The room was beautiful with a balcony overlooking the tropical landscaped pool and the bay beyond. Inside, the room had marble floors and a large marble bathroom. Even in January, the temperatures can get up in the low 80s so the good airconditioner and ceiling fan were put to use. The beach was OK - kind of small with brown sand. The whole place was very clean and very well maintained. The staff were very friendly and often greeted you by name. We paid a little more to upgrade to the Royal Beach Club so we could get the buffet breakfast and evening hors d oeuvres with open bar. Well worth it! The breakfast was wonderful and you can't beat looking over the ocean while sipping a cocktail or two (or three...). Only let down, no hot tub at the pool. Since it is located a few miles north of the city, you have to take a bus or a taxi to get downtown. I recommend the bus that picks you up right outside the hotel entrance. It is much cheaper than a taxi and you can experience what it is like to live there.

Great hotel, renovated, well kept, helpful staff. We stayed there for 2.5 weeks and we didn't have any complaints. There was a problem with our bill, they fixed it promptly. Its what you'd expect from a Marriott with the Mexican flair! On premise restaurant selection is good. Did not eat at the Japanese or main restaurant (heard they were both good), just the beach side one and Champions. Beach was good for basic food. Champions, like all Marriott locations sucks. Champions would not last on its own and I wish Marriott would overhaul their menu. Room service was surprisingly good and pricing was reasonable. Gym was great, spa looked nice but did not partake. Wifi sucks in the hotel except for lobby and business center. Wifi is $10/day but you can stop in at the business center and pay $2-$3 to check your email on their computers which are fast, so that's a better value in my opinion. Pool area was good but should be redone in the next few years. Don't get me wrong, still great place to chill out and drink from the poolside bar but it could be redone and be that much better. Onsite store is a ripoff but it's convenient. Hit the corner stores in the Marina for your own water etc, way cheaper. Definitely a more mature crowd at this resort. We're in our early 30's and we felt young most of the time. Definitely not a 20's resort, more like a 35+ type resort. Overall we'd recommend the hotel and would stay there again.

Embarcadero may not be a 5 star hotel, but it certainly is a great place to stay. The hotel has access to both Marina Vallarta and the ocean. What more could you ask for? Sitting in the pool with a drink in hand watching the boats cruise by in the marina, or sitting in the pool across the way watching the sun set with an ocean view? The pools and bar access within them are fabulous. There is a good variety of eating places right on the resort. Food isn't the greatest, but decent enough for being all inclusive and for the price. There is an amazing boardwalk that circles Marina Vallarta and is accessible right from the resort with shopping, eating, massages, excursions, etc. Embarcadero has nightly weekend entertainment (Mexican dancing, karoake, etc.) During the day there is a variety of things to do right at the resort (water aerobics, water volleyball, bike riding, etc.) or plenty of things to do in Vallarta depending on what you are looking for. Take a walk out on the beach and there is more shopping, parasailing, fishing charters, jet ski rentals, etc. So much to do, if you are bored it is your own fault! The hotel staff are very nice and accommodating. If you are looking for luxury, this is not the place for you. I would definitely stay here again!
