The hotel is a resort hotel with golf course and pool, we did not use the golfing facilities but people we met thought the course was good. The pool in the resort is large but shallow. The hotel is located about 10 miles from the nearest town and public transport is limited, you need a rental car. The hotel was very quiet when we were there. The restaurant near the beach is worth a visit. Hotel staff are helpful and friendly. Meals and beverage at the resort are resort prices so brace yourself.

This resort is beautiful, but after a day on the town, we tried going to the pool thinking that the swim up bar would be open and it wasn't. Part of the reason in booking with this resort was the thought of being able to end the evening with a few cocktails in the pool area, but the pool bar was not open. The resort is also excluded. This resort is perfect if you just want to relax and have NO social contact with the city. I would recommend staying in Lahaina. Again, beautiful resort, but if you're single and wanting to party, this is not the resort for you.

We stayed at this resort for 5 days and loved every moment. The resort is spacious and uncrowded which stands in contrast to the other nearby resorts. The pools are clean and inviting and the poolside service is excellent. The beach is nice but may be a bit rough for smaller children at times but one need only walk for 10 minutes to another beach. The food in the restaurants is excellent and the staff are very attentive. We will definitely go back and have no negative comments whatsoever.

The resort was beautiful. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The resort was very clean and well maintained. The resort offered everything you need, it would have been nice to have a few extra days to just lounge and enjoy the resort. Shopping, restaurants, pool, water slide, spa, beautiful grounds, you name it. Our only criticism would be that the beach directly behind the resort is very narrow, but if you take a short walk, there is a very nice stretch of beach to enjoy.

The grounds were beautiful. Amazing views. Very nice pools. 2 nice beach accesses, one being a nice place to snorkle. You can rent snorkle gear much cheaper than taking a boat tour and go out in the water right at the resort. We saw several whales just while sitting on the grass outside our room. Renting a car is a must, check out Lahaina for good shopping, and Big Beach near the resort. Also Kiehi is a good place to go for dinner; less expensive than the resort food. Luau on resort is worth the money, however. The beds are amazingly comfy. Drinks on the resort are expensive but strong! The hotel was 100% booked during our stay. You could tell at the pools but everything else is spread out enough to have some privacy. Overall, we really liked this resort, and reccommend it to Wailea visitors.

The Makena is a great value for what you get. If you like snorkeling it could not have been a better location. Sea turtles are everywhere right off the beach of the resort. It is the last resort going south on the island so it feels very isolated but it's only about a 10 minute drive to get food off the resort. The food prices at the resort were ridiculous but you will find that at any resort on Maui. It has an enterprise rental car right at the resort if you just want to go out a couple of days, but if you are going to explore the whole island you might as well rent a car at the airport.

We stayed in a Gold Fairway View Villa. The room was very nice and spacious. The full kitchen allowed us to eat breakfast and lunch in the room. Food in Maui is expensive! Although groceries werent cheap either. The room and lanai had excellent views of the golf course and Molokai. Ocean views werent great but were not complaining. The resort itself was great. The resort shuttle service allows you to move throughout the resort without worrying about parking or walking. We used the shuttle service several times to go to the beach and to use the Ritz Carlton facilities. Restaurants within the resort are very nice but very expensive. If you choose to grocery shop, we would suggest the Napili Market which is 5 minutes away rather than the Honolua Store (again very pricey). Only negative is that the resort is 10-15 minutes away from most of the shopping and entertainment. And if you are looking to drive to Hana, it is about a 3.5 hour drive. All in all, we thought it was a great place to stay. We were very pleased. We are hoping to purchase a villa someday in the future or at the very least return for another vacation.

We had a lovely stay at this hotel and it is beautiful, This is our second time and enjoyed it far more than before as we had an ocean front room which overlooked the pool and ocean.Last time we had a partial ocean front room which I wouldn't rave about as you couldn't really use the balcony. It has prime position on the beach near black rock for snorkelling far enough down from the other resorts to be relatively quiet. The resort is massive and the service outstanding in all areas. The only gripe I have is the resort fee they charge which almost made us book another hotel as most hotels offer wifi etc inclusive in their packages these days. We got valet parking for 24hours which was great but after that had to park quite far from our room at the back of the resort. Checkin and checkout were flawless. Overall an excellent stay and I would happily return again especially if they did away with the resort fee.

When I booked the Royal Lahaina for my honeymoon, I was drawn to it by the price and location. After spending the first 5 nights of our trip in a B & B in Haiku (upcountry), we were ready to be at a resort on the beach. The RL met our expectations. Our room was clean, sunny, and had a partial view of the ocean. The main view was of the mountains, palm trees and cottages below, which wasn't bad on the eyes at all. The beach was perfect for sunbathing and swimming and close to other resorts where we could rent stand up paddle boards. The RL was also close to black rock and excellent snorkeling. As a runner, I was also pleased with the various running routes I could take both within and outside of the Kaanapali resort area. (I only ran up to 8 miles during my time there, but if I had to go longer, I could have since Front Street is a few miles long). My only complaints would be the leaky shower door (which we were told happens in all the rooms since the recent remodeling) and the rather pricey buffet offered in the restaurant. I But alas, it is a resort, and one should be prepared to spend a little extra during their stay. I also wish the resort had a fitness center. All in all, my wife and I were very happy with the Royal Lahaina Resort and would definitely stay there again.

At first we were a bit confused as no restaurants or bars are available in the hotel and everything closed at 10.00 pm (we arrived at 10.30pm) therefore went to bed hungry. After the second day we realized that it was an advantage to have a full kitchen in the condo as after two weeks of travelling you usually get fed up with hotel breakfasts. The condo was huge, spacious, clean. we stayed in an ocean view premiere suite. Opt for the premier ones if possible. The beach was huge, clean and would recommend this nice place to anyone not seeking usual resort amenities like bars and restaurants shops and stuff (you may use any of the sourrounding hotel bars). Still a beach bar would be nice, we used the Mariott's which was a few steps away. Eat at Lahaine Grill or Mama's Fish House, or Ruth's Chris Steak House.

We had the pleasure of staying at the Napili Kai Beach Resort recently. We had a FABULOUS time. The resort is tucked away along the Napili coast, just a few miles north of Kaanapali. We didn't get any of the street traffic or tourist noise that you'd expect in Kaanapali or Lahaina. The resort has a private beach protected by a reef, making it a perfect swimming beach for children or anyone else not comfortable in rougher waves. The resort is meticulously cared for. Indigenous flowers and shrubs are in abundance, especially fragrant plumeria. The lobby is welcoming with several seating areas and a small library. We were offered fresh juice upon our arrival. Our room was spacious and comfortable. The bathroom and kitchen are of ample size and updated with new cabinetry and granite. The toiletries provided were some of the best I've used in a hotel. Each room has a private lanai and free wi-fi/internet access...but who wants to turn on a computer in a place like this! The resort has four pools, a snack bar, massage center/day spa and fine dining at the Sea House Restaurant. Just a few yards from the hotel is the famous Kapalua marine sanctuary, once voted the best beach in the world. We snorkeled there and had a wonderful time. The resort provides snorkels, masks and plenty of towels. There's a boutique on site as well, selling clothing, souvenirs and sundry items. Once you arrive in this tropical paradise, there's no reason to leave. We're already planning our next trip!

Aloha! The Sands of Kahana is very nice! I didn't have a great view since it overlooked the parking lot-but since the room was so nice, I really didn't mind! This resort is very family oriented and draws a nice family crowd. The staff is very friendly and is easy to locate-at the desk. They also have an Expedia booth on site to plan your events! This is a time share resort but they do not try to sell you a time share-which is a plus! They have a fully functional kitchen with all of the necessary gadgets-unlike some resorts that give you minimum. If you are sensitive to heat-this may not be the place for you because there is no AC. The trade winds more than make up for the lack of AC-but it can get hot in the summer. One thing I really like about this resort is that the rooms are very clean-and spacious. I also like that they have a bus stop within a block that can get you transportation to almost any key point on the island (with some transfers). In some instances, I preferred the bus (except that it does not have late hours) because parking can be expensive in Lahaina and it's easier to hop on the bus and go...

Small, well-run, clean, friendly gay resort. The rooms were extremely comfortable. Right next to the beach. Perfect for sunsets. There is a family atmosphere about the place. The staff REALLY care that you are having a good time staying with them. They provided great assistance with booking various tours, helping with commitment ceremony plans, dinner reservations...just about anything. They really took care of us. If we ever go back to Maui I would most certainly stay at this resort. I can't recommend it highly enough.

My husband and I , as well as 2 other couples stayed at this resort last week in Maui. We had been to the Grand Wailea before, and loved it so we wanted to try their newest townhomes across the street. Every single part of the trip was amazing! The ONLY problem was upon checkout we were told that a $500 cleaning fee was charged per unit. Expedia, nor the hotel informed us of any sort of charge in this large amount. That was frustrating, but as long as people know up front it shouldn't be a problem.

PROS: The resort is beautiful, new, clean. The Staff was wonderful. Duke's restuarant was very good but the only one on the resort.. Great place for Young Families. Pools are no deeper than 4 ft. Market, ice cream, Mom and Pop restaurant, and Subway across the street. CONS: Poolside services was poor...one/two waiters for pool area. Pool no deeper then 4ft. Only one restaurant on resort, no Spa/Salon, Only 3 options for meals in the area. AND...WINDY!!!!! Maui is a windy, breezy island but the resort is in a WIND TUNNEL. You can walk towards the next resort and...No to Little wind. At times couldn't be on beach cuz sand would hurt. A day or two of simi hard winds are ok but not everyday. If you choose this resort...walk up the beach a little ways for less winds but who wants to do that all the time.
