So I did read these reviews before booking the room but I got a good price so I decided to take a chance...but sure enough BELIEVE me if you are sensetive to funny smells you will not be able to handle staying here. When you first walk in the door you realize that the place has a funky musk smell to it in the lobby which was so bad I wasn't able to eat the breakfast because I was so disgusted. The rooms don't smell bad though and they weren't too bad overall except for the fact that someone did a remodel on the hotel and didn't update the windows so they don't stay open like they should, but if you don't mind putting a hanger in the window to keep it open then you'll be fine. The pool is heated but it closes at 8pm and there is no hot tub to relax in. The service at the pool is far from what I expect from a hotel that charges a resort fee since half of the time there would be no pool attendant to give you a towel which they have locked in a room. You have to walk over to the fitness room and beg for a towel because they say they need the towels for people that use the sauna that's in there. There is a wading pool for the toddlers that would be cute if you brought the little ones. Overall I felt like the motel next door was about the same as our hotel and would've been better because I wouldn't have had to pay for parking and for a resort fee just to put up with the poor service and smell of this hotel. The ocean was great though!!!

I went solo to Miami and stayed 1 night at the Palms to pamper myself, and that I did. The staff greeted me warmly and professionally even at 11pm. They encouraged a late night swim in the 24 hour pool and reminded me the bar closed at midnight. I woke to the New York Times and a beach chair then off to the spa for a massage. The Aveda Spa is small but serene, simple but sophisticated. I had another swim in the pool and a pricey lunch and then headed off. Overall, an excellent hotel if you want a "resort" feel which personally I can only do 1 or 2 days of, then I want to see the local atmosphere. One thing to note, families seemed happy with their stay and I saw several pregnant women with their husbands (last ditch romantic getaway pre-baby?), kind of nice to see there's a pregnancy massage at the spa for this reason. The Palms is not cheap but is worth the pennies, coming from a 27 year old NYer.

Greetings: I was a little disappointed with the Alexander. It reminded me of a once proud 5-star resort hotel now reduced to a 3 1/2 star complex. The kitchen lacked essential equipment, the pool chairs were not clean and paint was peeling from balconies. Our room was great but they charged for internet service when the ad said complimentary. Little annoyances added up. Noise of renovations bothered me through the day. It needs more renovations.

We booked ‘Ocean View Room with balcony’. Upon arrival to the hotel we received room with the balcony on the fourth floor of the Resort Tower facing swimming pool. We came back to reception desk and mentioned that that our room is supposed to be in the Ocean Tower, but were told that this is only available room. Below is room description posted on HOTELS.com website: One king floating bed with a full view of the Atlantic Ocean and Miami Beach coastline, or two queen beds. Signature bedding includes down comforter(s), custom duvet(s), and cotton linens. Beachfront balcony furnished with daybeds and lounge chair. Located in the Ocean Tower (opened January 2009). 600 square feet. Sliding frosted-glass doors connect the bedroom and bathroom. Large living room with ocean view. Historic Eden Roc photographs. High-definition flat-screen TV. Wireless Internet access (surcharge). Renaissance Smart Desk with iPod connectivity streams audio and video through TV. Newspaper delivery. Bathroom features jetted tub and separate shower with rainfall showerhead. In-room cooler. In-room safe. Individual climate control. Nonsmoking. None of the features listed below was available: • full view of the Atlantic Ocean and Miami Beach coastline – palm trees and pool behind the trees; • Beachfront balcony furnished with daybeds and lounge chair – pool front, not beachfront; • Located in the Ocean Tower (opened January 2009) – as I mentioned it was in the old building; • Sliding frosted-glass doors connect the bedroom and bathroom – our room did not have this feature; • Bathroom features jetted tub and separate shower with rainfall showerhead – just shower, no tub; • Newspaper delivery – not even once. Overall comments: Positive: – location is good. Negative: – room is big , but not very comfortable, you can watch TV in the bed only, there is no armchair or normal chair. – Linens are old and shabby. – Room was not cleaned every day. – Hotel stuff is not friendly.

It seemed like nobody spoke english but us, the front desk people spoke english but weren't warm friendly. The hotel was clean and right next to the beach so that was convenient. The food was ok we had the breakfast buffet. The concierge was very friendly. out a/c ended up having a leak so that was a little inconvenient. But overall it was ok, if I were to go back, this would be my last resort, hotel shuttle was very convenient.

There were some maintenance issues (door to room required some creative closing, fridge was filthy (but didn't use it), and bathroom had some funky smell to it). The hotel seems ancient and really needs a complete renovation. Valet parking was the only parking available at $20/day but I suspect you could park on the street if you want to be up at 8am to feed the meters. "Resort" fee of $10 was also assessed. I'd probably go with another hotel in the future.

thank you hotels.com, besides the credits for a nights stay, the resort fee of $13 was waived. we also received resort credits towards any service at the hotel. the staff was pleasant, the room overlooking the ocean was terrific. the bathroom has not bee updated since the 60's, but not bad. the hotel will give you a regular key if you prefer it to an electronic one and is very accomodating. for our purposes the location was perfect. the lobby is absolutely stunning. the biggest problem is not having sun at the pool between the hours of 1:30 and 3:30 bec. of the tall buildings next door
