We stayed two nights at the Sheraton Beach Resort in Langkawi and we had a great time our only real grip about the hotel was its location being so far from the main beach and nightlife areas. The Hotel itself is sufficient but i must record we spent minimal time there and basically used it as somewhere to sleep and to have breakfast. Breakfast was okay and they put on a good selection, don't expect bacon or port for that matter (this is very common in all but a few large chain hotels in Malaysia). The accommodation is chalet based and the chalets are spread over a considerable area. The hotel provides shuttle bus service from chalets to main hotel reception and restaurants and generally the service is quick unless you get caught out in the breakfast rush hour. We hired a car arranged through the tour desk at the hotel and we managed to tour the Island and its main attractions in less than a day. I cant claim to have visited all the attractions but I don't think we missed too much. Hotel is located very close to cable car and the suspended platform which is well worth a visit and cost about RM 14 in a taxi each way. A taxi to the main beach area ( Pantai Cenang) is around RM 26 and is located the other side of the airport. Hence we selected car hire which as-well as being convenient also saved us money in the end. Hotel did not have much of a beach but did have swimming pool at the main building. Guided to Langkawi suggested that the bar at the Sheraton was one of the liveliest but I must admit we never visited it as Cenang appeared to be the location for eating and drinking with many bars and restaurants. The staff at the hotel were very courteous and helpful and we did get offered a welcome drink on our arrival and we were allowed to check into our room at around 12 noon although Hotel policy clearly states that rooms will be available from 3pm onward so a big thank you to the reception staff for that. Many reviews have stated that the rooms are a little tired. I suppose that is the case but I must say the maintenance appears to be carried out and the rooms did have character, were spacious and suited our needs fine with flat screed TV and a reasonable selection of satellite TV stations (a sports channel would have been appreciated though.) The Bell boys were great at arranging taxis and the rates are all set and there is no premium between hotel taxis and those obtained outside. It appears taxi have set rates which are shown at taxi stands and also copy with bell boy. I appreciate this as many times in Malaysia taxis charge a premium for fares starting at hotel. Don't know if credit should be given to hotel or the authorities for this, but well done. One last moan related to the water in the chalet which was sometimes cold sometimes hot and sometimes a little brown in colour. Don't know the reasons for this, it cleared up after first day so perhaps room had been unoccupied for a while and water had been standing in tank. As for hot/cold water issue i can only assume the tank is shared by the four units making up the chalet and we were either too late or first in the race for the water. Overall enjoyed the stay and would recommend this hotel as a base for sight seeing and relaxation for a couple of days. If you like nightlife and plenty of food options would suggest hotel nearer Pantai Cenang.

We spent 2 nights/3 days in Langkawi over our Christmas 2011 holidays. A family of 4 with 2 teens. We chose this particular hotel because it combined both jungle and beach. We were happily surprised by our choice. We had done some research prior to booking and read Trip advisor's travellers comments. The pictures online were great and we really hoped that it would be what to expect upon arrival. Berjaya exceeded our expectations. We chose the right type of villa "The Premier Chalet type" which we highly recommend. We booked 2 chalets and they were interconnected. Plenty of room and a breathtaking beach view. Our Hotels.com booking came with a complimentay dinner promotion for 2 and an hour spa massage as well. We recommend (if you get this promotion) to book your reservation upon arrival for both spa and restaurant. We had planned to visit Langkawi outside Berjaya but opted to stay at the resort and enjoyed it.

I knew we had a winner on our hands when we got thru the check in process. The staff welcomed us with complimentary drinks, towels, and completely de-stressed us before we even got to our room. It is as if as soon as we went thru the doors, we left all our concerns, including our baggage. When we finally got to the room, it was already there, placed for us. The service was attentive and responsive. The breakfast was well done. The room itself was very spacious and really well laid out with great linens. Pool and beach were sparsely populated, which was great, b/c we did not want to experience the typical busy beach, nightclub routine. The ambience was more relaxed, more secluded and exclusive than the beach resorts. One thing to consider is the fact that the Danna is (relatively) far from the 'main city' so that strolling out into the city is not an option. Great stay, I would whole heartedly recommend.
