The hotel is beautiful and right on the beach. The service was friendly and helpful but not instrusive. We used Best Day transfers which was a mistake as we were at the end of the line in terms of the resorts nearer Cancun. Book private car or taxi and save up to an hour each way. At the hotel Sol was particularly helpful. The reef and snorkelling in front of hotel is lovely. The food - only breakfast- was good. The restaurants nearby are varied and OK. There is an aqua zoo in the marina (Manatees, sharks, rays, dolphins) that the kids loved. Great place. If you want a safe relaxing family vacation this is it. Not alot of tipico atmosphere here- its very American but you can get out of the gated resort pretty easily to Tulum and Coba and get a taste of Mayan culture. Very safe and secure family resort.

My wife and I have just returned from a short stay at the Aventura Spa Palace. Everyone who had visited this resort before us had told us to be sure to book our room on the Aventura side (south side of the resort), which we did. More about that in a minute. The resort is immaculate, the service outstanding, and there is plenty of food to choose from. Check in and check out from the resort is easy, and transfers from the airport to the resort are simple (the resort uses a local company called Chaza travel for their ground transportation, and Chaza is excellent, no problems whatsoever). The resort caters to couples who are primarily middle-aged professionals and older who are physically inactive. So don't plan for much in the way of any activities other than cocktail parties at night (great for networking - lots of business cards were passed around)and reading a book by the pool during the day. There is no beach at this resort, just a lagoon for snorkeling and kayaking, so the pools are pretty much where everyone congregates during the day. The Aventura side is very laid back and staid, while the Spa side is practically dead. Very good for relaxing and unwinding, but if watersports are your thing, you're best off going to some other resort. Would we go back? Yes, the resort is excellent, but we would either go for just a couple of days of doing nothing or I would stay longer and book a lot of excursions.

I have been traveling to this area for approx 15 years and have stayed at adult only resorts as well as family resorts. I have stayed at more expensive resorts and less expensive resorts. Dreams Adventuras is by far the number one resort of all that I have stayed when it comes to SERVICE. Everyone was so accommodating and serving from the desk to the beach bar servers. Early morning to late night, SERVICE was obviously their number one priority. On this trip I had 3 rooms as i brought two other couples as my guests. When you take on the responsibilty of another persons vacation you want everything to be perfect. Well I could not have chosen a better resort for this. Even when at dinner, one of my guests ordered 2 T-Bone Steaks and said put them on the same plate, no problem, they accommodated with a smile. The location with the beach and the marina adds an additional benefit over beach alone. The Dolphins in the Marina are tremendous to see. It also makes for nice strolls and a chance to get away from the resort itself. My guests and I would not only reccommend this property, but will return. Go here and Go Expeidia

Overall, the Catalonia Riviera Maya was very much like what I had expected from the pictures and information online. However, our room was not the Honeymoon suite like we paid for (or what was advertised in the picture), but other than that, everything was pretty much the way it appeared it would be. If you love swimming in the ocean, this might not be the place for you! Entering the water is a rough experience...there are soooo many rocks! It hurts! I recommend you bring water shoes if you plan on going in the ocean. My husband and I chose Riviera Maya because we didn't want to be near college spring breakers, and we heard the Riviera Maya was far enough from Cancun that we wouldn't run into them. There were a few days when I got annoyed at how roudy the pool area of the resort got, but my husband and I were lucky to find a quieter spot on the side of the resort. I don't think I'd recommend bringing children if you have them. We don't have children yet, but after seeing all the female guests who take off their bikini tops and expose themselves, I wouldn't bring them to this resort for sure! I'm sure it might be like that in many of the resorts, as going topless is probably more normal in other countries, but where I'm from, it isn't allowed! So unless you want your children to have a preview of the female body, I would stay clear from this resort. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay. I'd go again, but I think I'd try another resort before going back.
