I very much enjoyed my recent stay at Paradise Point, where my brother got married. The location is beautiful, and although it was rarely necessary to leave the resort, it was close (morning run distance) to Mission Bay Park and Mission Beach and a short drive from downtown. The bungalow rooms with beach views are definitely the way to go, and the suites (where my parents stayed) are much more comfortably set up than the 2-queen style, which was awkward. All the rooms were clean, if not terribly spacious. For a "resort," I found it rather overpriced without being terribly modern - the spa prices were higher than Miami or New York, and bike rentals at $10 an hour were far too high. Also, the resort loses a couple of points on style for the drab color of the buildings and odd decor in the lobby (I am not sure what carousel horses and colored glass globes have to do with a beach resort; they seem better suited to a circus theme). It is a shame there were no larger suites - I would have sprung for a 2-bedroom style with a real living room rather than a pull-out couch, as we often had large gatherings in one of the smaller suites. However, the fire pits on the beach are great, and the golf cart service was nice, even if it was not always available, as we covered several miles a day just wandering around the resort. I personally prefer to have one large pool with a bar rather than several small ones, but for a not-too-fancy place that seems more oriented toward families, it was quite nice. However, I understand that this is one of the nicest places in San Diego, and they certainly excelled at friendliness and food. The on-site restaurant was pricey but quite good; the "barefoot bar and grill" had delicious, uncomplicated eats and drinks at fair prices; and the food they prepared for the cocktail reception and wedding dinner were delicious. I am not sure I would stay here again if I were coming on my own, but the resort was a beautiful choice for a wedding. It gets an extra point for having free parking for each room. Comfortable rather than luxurious, I found the rates a bit high, but nonetheless it was a delightful place to stay.

A great resort location with large beach and many restaurants and shops within walking distance. We rented a car for the week and drove it twice! We appreciated the fact that while the resort fee didn't include some beach rentals they were very fair about the pricing comparted with other resorts we've stayed at. Included in the resort fee were beach towels and chairs and even at full capacity they did not run short of beach towels! Also, previous reviews have complained about noise from San Diego Airport planes but the only planes we saw were from the naval base and quite interesting to watch these fast, powerful military aircrafts up close!

The hotel was very conveniently located right on the beach and directly on the "boardwalk". Our room looked over a parking lot and then to the ocean so not the greatest view but was advertised as a partial view, so acceptable to us. Very lively, and local beach experience. Lots of people watching! Many restaraunts within walking distance. Bus stop right next to hotel to take you easily to Old Town train station where you can easily take a trolley into San Diego. The drive into downtown was very easy as well with easy access to I-5. For a 2.5 star hotel, easily worth the value. If you are looking for something more resort style, you would be disappointed. But who stays at their hotel in San Diego! Parking spaces are very small. No safes in room was disapponting as well. Note about San Diego beach areas: They talk about "gray May" and "june gloom" for a reason. Temps were colder than we expected, mid 60's when we went on June 26 and it is cloudy on the beach most of the time. It's amazing that if you go about 6 blocks inland, the sun is out and very pleasant. They say this "marine cloud layer" moves out as you get into July. And downtown San Diego was beautiful all the time! But my wife and I were beach people and we only got one sunny day at the beach so beware if you are looking to lay on the beach in the sun and you go in June. I would definitely look up this place again if we returned to San Diego. The people are friendly and uniquely interesting!

We spent 4 nights in this marvelous place with 3 and 1/2 years old boy. To our pleasant surprise this resort absolutely exceeded all our expectations. Strategically located just 9 miles from San Diego coastline it offers privacy of your own house, yet there are so many things to do close by. You can visit Sea World, La Jolla and Del Mar. You can swim in 82 degrees swimming pool or relax in hot Jacuzzi under the sky with shining stars. Later, order extraordinary breakfast in your room and have a glass of orange juice squeezed a moment ago with fresh newspaper in the morning. We did not want to go back to Bay Area... This resort is a rear find and by far exceeds 5 star rating. What are you waiting for? Go on and discover this jewel for yourself. Viva Rancho Valencia!

The title may say resort, but it's just a nice kept up outdoors hotel. Don't get me wrong, it's nice, but not what I was expecting or lead to believe. I ordered room service at 10:01 pm and received it within 30 minutes, but not before being questioned on why I called passed their cut off time of 10:00pm. I only ordered a BLT & fries, so couldn't understand why it took 30 minutes when I was right by the kitchen. Also, when they automatically add 15% to your bill if they have to bring it to your room, I don't appreciate the waiter rubbing his fingers at me, expecting an additional tip. Over $10 for a sandwich because of the 15% delivery fee, I think they get paid plenty. Besides, I've made better sandwiches at home. When booking this "resort" I made it a point to check their Noise Policy, since I was traveling with my 8 year old son and didn't want him around loud partying noise. The policy stated that they have a zero tolerance noise policy. Great! Except the first night I was there, I didn't get to sleep much. At about 11pm it started. A couple in the next room must have been having a heated argument cause they were screaming back and forth and dropping the "f" bomb about every 5 minutes. With as thin as the walls are, my 8 year old son and I heard it all. This lasted a few hours. When I notified the front office in the morning they told me "I'm sorry for that, but you should have told us last night. Either way, that room is checking out today so you won't have to worry about the noise tonight." That really didn't give me much comfort in their zero tolerance policy on noise.

Good resort overall. The room is medium size, but doesn't matter if you are in San Diego for the attractions most of the days (Great location to all attractions) and are out the room. Fashion Valley mall behind the resort as well as other shopping nearby. Room service is a bit expensive, but other food locations nearby to avoid the high resort prices for room service. Bella Tosca Spa is great at only $10/day. Parking was not a hassle as some people have written. Overall, great hotel for the price.

This is a classic style, high end resort, but somewhat outdated compared to other more contemporary high end resorts. Did have an old world charm to it, and was nice and clean. Definitely a resort with old time regulars who frequent it. We paid about 1/2 their normal price due to a special promotion. While everything was more then acceptable, if we had to pay full price we would have selected a different, and newer resort.

The service and staff were excellent from checkin to checkout. I was greeted immediately and customer service at every location on the resort was impeccable. There seemed to always be some staff member in sight at every location; yet that was not uncomfortable at all. Everyone was constantly available for any question or concern. I was asked at least 4 times at different locations, if I needed help with anything. About the only negative thing I can say is that the bathroom shower water temperature was very inconsistent. Even with the water turned all the way to cold, the temperature would go up and down. My 15-year old actually cried at one point from getting burned. I yelped a few times myself. We were in room 311. I think the tower is probably newer. Other then that, the Catamaran Resort is relaxing, peaceful, lush with jungle trees and other growth, full of winding trails that add to the ambience. It is just what you imagine of a resort. The spa and gym had all the equipment I needed. Also the outdoor sports area including all kinds of watercraft was very fun with plenty to do. The Mission Bay area which is where the resort is located has an excellent bike riding path that seems to go on for miles. You really don't have to leave the resort for anything.

We thoroughly enjoyed the hotel and it's ammenities. The rooms were comfortable and clean and the shower pressure really great! We got a ground floor room which had a patio with easy access to the beach. Nice! Several of these ground floor units had fire pits...COOL! We were able to watch the Sea World fireworks from our patio each night and that was a plus for the kids. The beach is really on an inlet, so don't expect waves, but was great for the little ones. The sand is fine and it is not rocky. Shell shards only-not great shell hunting. There were bonfires on the beach at night and the pool was lovely. People commented that the food was expensive, but we thought the food was resort priced. Not cheap, but could be worse! The chicken quesadillas were awesome as well as the potstickers. The kid ammenities and beach rentals like bikes closed after labor day. We stayed at this hotel as a family with small kids and really enjoyed it. We did have a rental car, and did take day trips, but easily could have stayed at the resort. We were there over labor day weekend and a few days past. It was reasonably quiet, but could see it being very busy during the summer. Feed the ducks on the beach in the morning!

My son and I were planning on staying at the Gaslamp Hostel. I rarely stay at Hotels any more since I've discovered the wonderful world of hostels, but I normally only stay at hostels when I'm traveling alone. My husband suggested Morgan Run Resort through Hotels.com. The 48 hour turn over price was the same price I would have paid at the hostel. I don't stay at hostels just for the economy though. I like interacting with people from different countries and the whole atmosphere at a hostel is more communal and less commercial. And some of the hostels I stay at are in gorgeous surroundings - Pigeon Point Lighthouse above Santa Cruz or Montara Lighthouse just above Half Moon Bay. My point is this.. I was able to stay at a clean, comfortable resort room for the same price as a hostel and the bonus for me ... the location was absolutely beautiful. It is close enough to Solano Beach where my son and i saw Beats Antique at the Belly -Up Club and the next day we took a lovely drive up to Escondido to see Queen Califia's Magical Circle - a mosaic sculpture garden built by the late Niki de Saint Phalle. Morgan Run's check out time of noon allowed us to leisurely prepare for the day. Oh and there's an espresso machine instead of a coffee maker... honestly I think I would have rather had the coffee. But it was fun to use. Most importantly Morgan Run accommodated us with a ground level room even though I didn't ask for one due to my son's disability. We had a patio outside with a 4' or so strip of lawn... It would have been ideal for our dogs - the resort IS DOG FRIENDLY! Had a good time there! Thanks!

We booked this trip for a "stay-cation" with our family of seven. The two bedroom villa was more than enough room for our family to sleep, play wii games, run, cook full meals and just have a great time! The resort itself had about seven pools, two large water slides, game rooms, tennis and basketball courts. Additionally there were dozens of activities for adults and children that were very entertainining. There is something for everyone! I wouldnt bother buying tickets to any local attractions unless you are going to be at the resort for more than four or five days because you would never get bored. The grill has an excellet blackend chicken sandwhich and the resort will usually give you a free gift to attend their timeshare presentation (we gor $50 food voucher and a free round of golf). Even though this resort has a lot of children and families, I would not hesitate to return with just my husband or some girlfriends for a fun relaxing stay. This is one of the best resort experiences I have ever had hands down!!!

This resort its beautiful. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. It was everything I'd expect from a high end resort. But what I didn't expect was how much they catered to kids. At the registration desk they let our daughter pick a toy from a wagon full of goodies. We requested a crib and were surprised to find that they also provided a diaper pail. A few minutes after arriving to our room there was a knock on the door. They delivered a little goodie bag of cookies and candy for our daughter. There is also a kids area at the pool with a 1 ft pool, a kids sized picnic area, and little play area. But they also have a separate adults only pool. I'd stay here again with or without kids.

At one point this hotel was part of a beautiful resort, and some of that resort-like atmosphere remains. The rooms are large and airy, and they each have a nice balcony; some with a view of the lake. Each room is nicely decorated. They have a couch as well as a bed, and flat screen TVs. But the shine has definitely worn off. The carpeting is stained and the walls need repainting. In one room I stayed in, there was a fist-sized hole in the bathroom wall. The restaurant has closed and they send you to the snack bar at the golf course instead. The price is reasonable, but be aware that there is a $9.00 per day "resort fee" that they charge per night. This is in addition to anything you pay through hotels.com or elsewhere. It entitles you to free local calls, Internet access, and a few other amenities. But I think it is a bit deceptive as to how they charge. All said, I do still stay there. If you look past the worn edges and threadbare look, it is a comfortable place, in a good location, and at a decent rate.

This hotel is truly a golfer's paradise. From our room, we could walk out the back door to the patio and 30 feet away was a huge putting green. 60 feet from the front door was a chipping/sand-trap practice area. They have 3 golf courses; 2 full sized and a 18-hole par 3 course. The golf courses are beautiful, and the green fees are reasonable especially for twilight rates (3pm or later). Any other course this nice would have charged more than twice as much to play. The rooms are nice and include TV, bed(s), table and chairs, large bathroom/closet, shower, and a back patio with chairs and a table. The beds were the most comfortable beds I have ever slept in, extremely soft. The room also has its own air conditioning for your desired temperature. The casino on the resort is small, but still very nice. It is located about 2 miles away, but you can call the front desk for a free tram to pick you up at your room and take you to the casino 24/7. The staff was very friendly and helpful. While we were walking the grounds we had multiple employees ask us if we would like a golf-cart ride to our destination. The resort has multiple pools which are kept at the perfect temperature, and spas which are always hot. We only had e chance to eat at one of the 7 restaurants at the resort, but it was very good and fairly priced. The best part is if there are people who don't care for golf you're just 15-20 minutes away from everything that downtown San Diego has to offer. We are planning another trip here soon and will be staying here a lot in the future. We are so glad we found this place.
